Almirola uninjured in Daytona flip: Aric Almirola had just gotten up to speed at the end of a short drafting line Sunday afternoon in Busch Series testing at Daytona when he felt a vibration in the right-rear tire. The tire started to shred, causing Almirola to lose control of his #18 Joe Gibbs Racing Chevy. The car spun and slid down the backstretch. Once the car hit the infield grass, it flipped an unknown number of times before coming to rest on its roof. Jon Wood Leads Rain-Shortened Session Monday Afternoon: #47-Jon Wood's top speed of 185.866mph was fastest of all competitors in Monday afternoon testing. The session was shortened by rain showers. #60-Carl Edwards was second, #77-Kertus Davis third, #27-Ward Burton fourth, and #04-Regan Smith fifth. Ward Burton Tops Speed Charts Monday Morning: #27-Ward Burton ran the fastest lap during Monday morning's test session at Daytona. His top speed was 183.329 mph. Yeley Leads Final Daytona Test Session: #1-J.J. Yeley in his Phoenix Racing Chevy, had the fastest speed during the final Daytona test session Tuesday afternoon. His top speed was 187.130mph. The #06 of Eric Darnell was second fastest. Cale Gale and Ron Hornaday in the #33 of Kevin Harvick Inc. had the third fastest speed. Ward Burton Back on Top Tuesday Morning at Daytona: #27-Ward Burton topped the charts for the second morning session in a row. He was the fastest competitor on Monday morning in his Brewco Ford. Tuesday morning's top speed was 183.782mph. Burton was followed by #17-Peter Shepherd, #7-Mike Wallace, #47-Jon Wood, and #04-Regan Smith. #9-Bill Elliott was the fastest Dodge in 9th. 23 cars took to the track during the session.(1-23-2007)

NASCAR JACKSON HEWITT PRESEASON THUNDER AT DAYTONA
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 18, 2007) - New hopes, new dreams, new season. Each comes into play for NASCAR Busch Series drivers and teams at NASCAR Jackson Hewitt Preseason Thunder at Daytona.
Nearly 50 drivers representing over 30 teams are scheduled to participate in two three-day test sessions - a first for the series - beginning Friday. Teams that were in even-number positions in the car owner standings as of July 12, 2006, are scheduled to test Friday through Sunday, Jan. 21 while teams in even-number positions in the car owner standings will test from Sunday through Tuesday, Jan. 23.
"It's great to get back to the track and see all the new names and the new talent," said NASCAR Busch Series Director Joe Balash.
All sessions begin at 9 a.m. and end at 5 p.m., weather permitting, and include a lunch break from noon until 1 p.m.
Drivers attending the first session include Juan Pablo Montoya (#42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge) and Marcos Ambrose (#59 Kingsford Ford), two drivers who bring international appeal to the NASCAR Busch Series. Montoya, a former open-wheel star, is from Columbia while Ambrose, a native Australian, competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series last season.
The Florida connection of 1992 NASCAR Busch Series champion Joe Nemechek (#87 NEMCO Chevy - Lakeland) and David Reutimann (#99 Aaron's Dream Machine Toyota - Zephyrhills) test during the first session as do Clint Bowyer (#2 BB&T Chevy), Kyle Busch (#5 Spectracide/Sta-Green/Delphi Chevy), Denny Hamlin (#20 Rockwell Automation Chevy) and two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion Martin Truex Jr. (#81 DEI Chevy).
Timothy Peters, one of many new drivers preparing for their first taste of extended series competition this year, will test the #21 Richard Childress Racing Chevy during the session. Childress captured his third NASCAR Busch Series owner championship with the #21 last year while Kevin Harvick - who will share the ride in 2007 with Peters - is the reigning series driver champion, having won his second title in 2006.
