Short Track Test Session Set For NASCAR Busch Series at Richmond

Over 40 drivers representing 25 teams are set to participate Tuesday and Wednesday at Richmond International Raceway in the third of four scheduled 2007 NASCAR Busch Series tests.

Richmond is the lone short track on the test schedule. Teams already have tested at Daytona International Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Lowe’s Motor Speedway will finish out the test schedule in mid-May.

Tests will be held from 1-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. each day with a dinner break from 5-6 p.m. Interview opportunities with select drivers are scheduled during two one-hour slots Tuesday in the media center.

Following the test, series drivers and teams will have their first open week of the season following races stretching from Daytona to California, to Mexico City and Las Vegas, then to Atlanta and Bristol before heading to Richmond.

NASCAR Busch Series leader and 2005 Richmond winner Carl Edwards (#60 Scott’s Ford) is scheduled to test along with Roush Fenway Racing teammates David Ragan (#6 Discount Tire Ford), Todd Kluever (#16 3M Ford), Matt Kenseth (#17 Arby’s/Dish Network Ford) and Erik Darnell (#26 Roush Fenway Ford).

Six other drivers in the top 10 in the standings also are scheduled to participate: Kyle Busch (#5 Sta-Green/Lowe’s Chevrolet – third); Dave Blaney (#10 Camping World Toyota – fourth); Kenseth (fifth); Marcos Ambrose (#59 Kingsford Ford – seventh); Mike Wallace (#7 GEICO Chevrolet – ninth) and Bobby Hamilton Jr. (#35 McDonald’s Ford – 10th).

Edwards (NASCAR Busch Series) and Busch (NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series) are coming off wins last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway.

Some of the series’ up-and-coming talent will be on display during the test. A pair of 19-year-olds – Steve Wallace (#66 HomeLife Communities Dodge) who won his first career pole at Bristol Motor Speedway last Saturday,  Brad Coleman (#18 Carino’s Chevrolet), a developmental driver for Joe Gibbs Racing with two starts this year – lead the way.

Sam Hornish Jr. (#12 Mobil 1 Dodge), the 2006 Indianapolis 500 winner who drives a partial NASCAR Busch Series schedule for Penske Racing, also is scheduled to participate in the test. By qualifying for the May 4 Circuit City 250, he would become the first driver to race at Richmond in one of NASCAR’s top three national series as well as in the Indy Racing League.
