Shock issue led to Dillon disqualification: The left front shock of Austin Dillon's truck was built wrong and had no way to rebound following his qualifying run, which is what caused the Richard Childress Racing truck to fail post-qualifying inspection Friday, team vice president of competition Mike Dillon said Saturday morning at Talladega Superspeedway. Mike Dillon, Austin's father, said RCR got the shocks from an outside group that has been helping the team. The error - no bleed shim that would allow the truck to raise to the minimum height after the run - was in the misconstruction of the shock and wasn't done intentionally, Dillon said. Because RCR has not attempted all of the truck events this year, it did not have a guaranteed spot. With the qualifying time disallowed, Dillon failed to make the field for the race today. "It didn't have any bleed shims in it - it wasn't going to come back up," Mike Dillon said. "It was just a major mistake. It's embarrassing for us. … It was just an error on the build. It wasn't purposely done." "[Austin] did everything he was supposed to do," Dillon said. "He was good in practice. He got up in the draft … and was really fast. We were like, 'Wow, we're going to be OK.' He was relaxed and really enjoyed it. Just getting comfortable here is what we were trying to do for next year." Dillon said he understood that NASCAR had to disallow the time. "It's not fair for the other teams whose trucks came through and made it through heights," Dillon said. NASCAR announces NCWTS rule adjustments for 2010: NASCAR announced several rule adjustments to the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series that will not only assist with cost control, but will continue to promote the same top-flight competition for which the series is known. Here are the amendments to the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Series rule book:
*Double-file restarts "shootout style" will be implemented to further enhance the close competition and offer additional excitement for the fans. The format will be the same as in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and NASCAR Nationwide Series.
*The addition of fuel and changing of tire(s) will be permitted on the same pit stop.
*During any pit stop, under yellow-or green-flag conditions, six pit crew members will be permitted in the truck servicing area. This is an increase from five pit crew members in 2009.
*A new self-venting fuel-can will be introduced as an option for teams to use in addition to the conventional fuel can.
*The tire lease program will remain the same with these new options available to teams.
*Tires will continue to be transferred between events with the same D-codes as recommended by Goodyear.
*The transfer of tires between the different national series at combo events with the same D-codes will be permitted.
*At track, Goodyear will provide surplus tires. Goodyear will notify teams weeks in advance of availability.
*A team will run no more than two consecutive races without using an engine previously sealed by NASCAR officials. This excludes events at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. The current rule allows teams to run no more than three consecutive races without using a sealed engine.
*A SPEC engine will be introduced as an option for teams at tracks less than 1.25-miles in length. This will help to reduce costs for current teams and encourage participation from the regional series.(NASCAR PR)(10-30-2009)
Dover Motorsports closes Memphis: UPDATE NASCAR revises schedule: Dover Motorsports, Inc. announced today that it was ceasing all operations at Memphis Motorsports Park and that it would not be promoting any events in Memphis in 2010. As previously announced, the Memphis facility had been under an agreement of sale to Gulf Coast Entertainment but Gulf Coast was unable to secure financing.(Dover Motorsports PR)
UPDATE: NASCAR has also made a schedule change for the 2010 schedule. Easter weekend becomes a double-header in Nashville. The scheduled Memphis NCWTS race will be run at Nashville Superspeedway on Friday, April 2, preceding the NASCAR Nationwide Series race Saturday night. Buescher to run #1 in Nationwide for next two races: Camping World Truck Series competitor James Buescher and Phoenix Racing announce the 19-year-old Texas native will pilot the #1 Miccosukee Resort & Gaming Chevy in the next two Nationwide Series races, to be held at Texas and Phoenix. In addition, Buescher will participate in the NNS Car of Tomorrow test session at Talladega Superspeedway this Monday, November 2nd, driving the new Chevy for team owner James Finch.(Buescher PR)(10-29-2009)
Goodyear Tire Notes - Talladega: Teams in both of these NASCAR series will run the same tire codes at Talladega this weekend, though the Sprint Cup tires will be branded "Goodyear Eagle," while the Camping World Truck tires will be branded "Goodyear Wrangler" . . . this is the same combination of left- and right-side tire codes that Sprint Cup teams ran at this track earlier this season . . . on the Cup side, this left-side tire code (D-4138) was run at Talladega last season, while this right-side code (D-4224) was introduced this year . . . this is the first time Camping World Truck teams will run either of these two tire codes . . . as on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners in all four tire positions at Talladega . . . air pressures in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.(Goodyear PR) [Complete tire specs are posted on the Talladega Race Page.](10-29-2009)
Circle Bar Racing celebrates "Hallow-Dega" with special paint schemes: Circle Bar Racing is getting into the Halloween spirit by trading the familiar blue and orange colors on its race trucks for black and orange to celebrate Talladega's "Hallow-Dega" race weekend. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race, scheduled for October 31, will kick off the weekend's festivities at the 2.66-mile Talladega Superspeedway, and Circle Bar Racing drivers Rick Crawford (#14 International Truck and Engine Ford F-150) and James Buescher (#10 International MaxxForce Diesel Ford F-150) are hoping to put a scare into the competition. Crawford, an Alabama native, finished second in the truck series race at Talladega in 2007, a mere .014 seconds behind race-winner Todd Bodine. . "This is a big weekend for me because I'm going home," said Crawford, a 13-year veteran of the truck series. "The International Truck and Engine Ford F-150, decked out in orange and black for 'Hallow-Dega' just looks fast." Double-duty for Richardson at Talladega: Robert Richardson Jr. is attempting to pull double duty at Talladega Superspeedway this weekend. Richardson will attempt to qualify for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Mountain Dew 250 with his R3 Motorsports team in the R3 Motorsports #71 Mahindra Tractors Chevrolet. Richardson will also attempt to qualify for his first NSCS start in the Amp Energy 500 driving for Tommy Baldwin Racing in the #36 Mahindra Tractors Toyota. Congrats to Bobby East: Congratulations go out to Bobby East and his long-time girlfriend Courtney Kirts who were engaged on October 21. East, the 2004 USAC National Midget Series champion, drove in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2006 and 2008, and ran a partial Nationwide schedule in 2007. *James Buescher was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the October 24 Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. Buescher scored an 11th-place finish and took top rookie honors for the fourth time this season. He was the top rookie in both races at Martinsville this season, scoring an 11th-place finish in each race.
*A Raybestos Rookie has scored top-10 finishes in 17 of the 21 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races this season.
*Johnny Sauter leads Tayler Malsam by 36 points (212-176) in the overall Raybestos Rookie standings entering the October 31 Mountain Dew 250 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.
*Sauter is eighth in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship standings, six points behind seventh-place Timothy Peters and 68 ahead of ninth-place David Starr.
*Colin Braun was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the 2008 Mountain Dew 250, scoring a fourth-place finish. Peters to return to Red Horse Racing in 2010: Tom DeLoach [Red Horse Racing owner] said Peters will drive for him next season but that sponsorship is still at issue for 2010. Dillon & RCR make first trip to Talladega; Realtree to sponsor: Lewisville, N.C., native Austin Dillon will not only make his restrictor plate debut driving the #3 Realtree Outfitters Chevy when he takes the green flag for Saturday's 150-mile race at Talladega. Dillon will also become the first driver to start a restrictor-plate Truck Series race for RCR. Childress ended his truck series program in 1999 to purse racing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, one year before the inaugural NCWTS restrictor-plate race occurred at Daytona International Speedway in February 2000. This is Dillon's third truck race … In two previous truck series starts, Dillon has earned 12th and 15th-place finishes at Iowa Speedway and New Hampshire Motor Speedway, respectively. Hornaday/Bodine - Copart Challenge of Champions Finale at Talladega: UPDATE Bodine has the stats to beat: Ron Hornaday and Todd Bodine will end their battle to collect points in the Copart Challenge of Champions competition this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. Each driver will be in a Copart sponsored truck during the Mountain Dew 250. Throughout the Challenge of Champions each driver has driven a Copart sponsored truck for a total of four races. When in a Copart truck the driver points earned during that race were applied toward the Copart Challenge of Champions title. Hornaday has driven the #33 Copart Chevrolet for a win at the Milwaukee Mile, finished second at New Hampshire Motor Speedway and then went on to finish sixth at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Thus far in the challenge Hornaday has collected a total of 530 points to grab the lead by 106 points over Bodine. Bodine [#30-Germain Racing Toyota] has also completed three of four races during the Copart Challenge of Champions. UPDATE: Todd Bodine has earned four consecutive wins at Talladega and Daytona beginning with Talladega's win from the pole in 2007. Another part of the Copart Challenge of Champions is to crown a Copart Champion driver and give a special award on behalf of the champion that wins the Copart Challenge of Champions. Copart sponsors 2006 Truck Series champion Bodine, as well as 2007 Truck Series champion Ron Hornaday Jr. "It's great to see Copart stepping in with the offer of the donation to the champion's charity of choice. I picked the American Cancer Society-it is a great cause. We all need to do what we can to help. Wimmer & Turner Motorsports set to make debut at Texas: Turner Motorsports, LLC is pleased to announce today that the racing organization will make its NASCAR debut in two weeks at Texas Motor Speedway. Team owners Steve and Sandra Turner have tapped veteran driver Scott Wimmer to pilot the #31 Wolfpack Rentals Chevrolet Silverado in Turner Motorsports' first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race. Carmichael in the #4 at Talladega: Ricky Carmichael, .driving the #4-Monster Energy Drink Chevy, will return to the site of his first Kevin Harvick Inc start this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway. The most successful motocross racer in history made his KHI debut last season at the 2.5-mile track in an ARCA car. Carmichael started the race from the ninth position and was running in the top 10 when the right-rear tire exploded, destroying the body of the car and was unable to finish.(Kevin Harvick Inc. * Timothy Peters won the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. It was his first series win in his 64th start.
* Peters is the fourth first-time winner in 2009. He becomes the sixth first-time winner at Martinsville.
* Red Horse Racing posted its third series victory -- its second at Martinsville.
* Peters led once for 84 laps.
* This is the series-leading 12th win for Toyota in 2009.
* This is Peters' 13th start with Red Horse Racing; he has scored 10 top-10s since joining the team. He has jumped from 19th to seventh in points since joining the team.
* Todd Bodine (second) scored his seventh second-place short-track finish but is still looking for his first short-track win.
* Colin Braun (third) scored his seventh top-5 finish in 2009. He moved up one spot to sixth in points.
* Ron Hornaday Jr. (fourth) scored his sixth top-5 at Martinsville and 13th in 2009.
* Kevin Harvick (fifth) scored his fourth top-5 finish in four starts this season. He was two laps down after a flat tire.
* Matt Crafton (ninth) now trails Hornaday by 224 points. It is the largest point lead with four races to go.
* Mike Skinner (23rd) was involved in two cautions and finished four laps down. He is 326 points behind Hornaday.

Future uncertain for several drivers for next season: As the 2009 campaign reaches the homestretch with just five races left, many drivers find themselves in a race to secure the funding to return to their team or move to a new one.
[Timothy] Peters, who moved from Premier Racing to Red Horse earlier this year, is one of those looking for a commitment. His agreement with Red Horse is only through the end of 2009 and he says he hasn't even discussed whether sponsor Strutmasters.com might return or go with him elsewhere. Peters' situation is no more stable than that of many of his competitors, including teammate T.J. Bell.
The longer a driver goes without firming up plans for the coming season, the harder it can be to find a ride. Just ask Terry Cook. "The end of 2006 was the first year that I really had to start looking for opportunities to race the next year and unfortunately every year thereafter I've done that," said the HT Motorsports driver, noting that his Martinsville-based organization is expected to evaluate his future in the offseason. "And that's the frustrating part of this business - the unknowns.
It takes about $3 million annually to fully fund a Truck team, according to Wyler Racing driver Stacy Compton. Compton says he's about 95 percent sure he'll return to his seat in a full-time role next season but that the team needs an additional sponsor to chip in about $500,000. Compton isn't ready to completely rule out the possibility of a part-time schedule.
More certainty exists among drivers at or near the top of this year's points standings. Team owner Kevin Harvick said on Friday that points leader and three-time champion Ron Hornaday will return to the #33 Chevrolet full-time and that Harvick and Ryan Newman will share time in the second Kevin Harvick Inc. truck.
ThorSport Racing teammates Matt Crafton (second in points) and Johnny Sauter (fifth) are also set to rejoin their respective organizations. That also appears to be the case for Randy Moss Motorsports' Mike Skinner (3rd), HT Motorsports' David Starr (10th) and GunBroker.com Racing's Jason White (14th).
Starr is also entertaining the possibility of a part-time Nationwide schedule with a team that he would not disclose yet. Possibly joining him in the Nationwide ranks will be Circle Bar Racing rookie James Buescher, who says he expects an announcement regarding his future in the next two weeks.(SceneDaily.com)(10-24-2009)

Q: Can you talk about where you are as far as funding or sponsorship or plans for your two trucks for next season?
A: Well his (Hornaday) truck will race regardless. It's going to race for a championship. We'll probably do a lot like we did this year with the second truck. Hopefully we won't have the third truck. Sauter resigns with ThorSport Racing for 2010: Johnny Sauter isn't just coming to Martinsville Speedway this weekend off of his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory, but he's also arriving with a new contract with ThorSport Racing to return in 2010. Sauter, who has 76 starts in what is now the Sprint Cup Series and 195 in what is now the Nationwide Series, won his first Truck race in 20 career starts four weeks ago at Las Vegas. Sauter said team owner Duke Thorson already had the paperwork done to sign him for another year prior to the Vegas race, but winning obviously didn't hurt. Sauter has five consecutive top-five finishes - three fifths, a second and a first - in his last five races. What's made the difference? Well at least part is new crew chief Joe Shear, whom Sauter has worked with at various times in his career. "He's obviously a huge part of the equation," Sauter said. "One of the biggest things he has done coming in is lean on our teammate [Matt Crafton] as far as setups. Martinsville marks milestone for Compton: Stacy Compton [#60-SafeAuto Insurance/Wyler.com Toyota] will make his 400th career NASCAR start on Saturday when the green flag drops for the Kroger 200. To date, Compton has accrued 88 starts in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, 173 starts in the Nationwide Series, and 138 starts in the Camping World Truck Series. On another note…Compton and his wife Vickie opened "Olivia and Isabella's", a restaurant named after their two daughters, on Wednesday, October 7th. The restaurant, which is casual and fine dining, features an impressive menu of steaks and seafood. Skinner makes 200th career start at Martinsville: UPDATE first driver in 200-200 Club: Camping World Truck Series veteran Mike Skinner [#5-PC*Miler Toyota] will make his 200th career truck series start when the green flag waves for the start of the Kroger 200 this Saturday at Martinsville Speedway. Skinner began his career in the series in 1995, starting his first race - and going on to win - at Phoenix International Raceway. Mike Skinner has scored 28 victories in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series competition and has earned 88 top-five and 128 top-10 finishes during his NCWTS career. In addition to making his 200th start this weekend, Skinner will be gunning for the 50th pole position of his NCWTS career. UPDATE: Mike Skinner, a member of this season's distinguished over-50 club with Mark Martin and Ron Hornaday Jr., will carve out a unique distinction in NASCAR history in Saturday's Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway. It will be Skinner's 200th start in the Camping World Truck Series, making him the first driver to have 200 starts in both the truck and Sprint Cup series. Skinner has 260 Cup starts, including four this season. Skinner is tied with Jack Sprague for second on the all-time victory list in trucks with 28. Fuller & TRG Motorsports team up for Martinsville: R3 Motorsports and TRG Motorsports are teaming up to run the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway this weekend. Rob Fuller, co-owner of R3 Motorsports, will be behind the wheel of the #71 Mahindra Tractors Chevrolet with Tim Rice calling the shots as Crew Chief. Fuller will be making his first NCWTS start at Martinsville Speedway on Friday. He has two previous starts at the half-mile oval, one in a modified and one in a late model. UPDATE 2: For the first time in the history of a NASCAR national touring series, a father and daughter duo will compete against each other…and it's all happening at Talladega Superspeedway. Mike Wallace announced today that he and daughter Chrissy will compete against each other during the Mountain Dew 250 fueled by Fred's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race at Talladega Superspeedway on Oct. 31. "NASCAR, the sport and the series, has been good for the whole Wallace family. It's personally very rewarding to have the opportunity to compete against Chrissy at Talladega, but the biggest reward is seeing a young person follow her dream and pursue her career. UPDATE: When the NASCAR Camping World Trucks take to the Martinsville Speedway on Saturday afternoon the two SS Green Light Racing entries will have a "modified look" as Burt Myers and Tim Brown take the wheel of the teams #07 and #08 Chevy Silverados. Both drivers will be making their NCWTS debut this weekend. The Myers name should be familiar to NASCAR fans as Burt will be the third generation of Myers to run in one of NASCAR's top three touring series. The Myers Brothers Award is given annually by the National Motorsports Press Association and recognizes individuals or groups who have provided outstanding contributions to the sport of stock car racing. The award is named after two of NASCAR stock car racing's pioneers, the late brothers Billy and Bobby Myers. (Burt's grandfather and great uncle.) Burt's father Gary Myers had 46 starts in the Grand National (now Sprint Cup) series from 1972 to 1978. White to make series debut at Martinsville: Derek White, a Native American (Mohawk) that hails from Kahnawake, an Indian reserve near Montreal, Quebec, will make his first series start in the #12 DGM Racing Chevy at Martinsville. White has prior experience in various forms of motorsports including: 22 yrs ice racing (cars), 20 yrs drag racing (Pro-Stocks--7 second quarter mile cars), motocross, etc. In the past year he began competing in Canada by participating in events with the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the A.C.T. HT Motorsports looking for that first win at home track: Martinsville-based HT Motorsports has proven it's competitive. Throughout this season, the team's veteran drivers, David Starr (#24 Zachry Toyota) and Terry Cook (#25 Harris Trucking/Cajun Industries Toyota), have been in and out of the top 10 not only at the end of races, but in the standings as well. Competing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series since 2001, the team is still looking for that first win. As a former winner at Martinsville, Starr thinks he can be the one to deliver that victory for owner Jim Harris and his team. "We go into this race just like we would the rest of the year. We are going for the win. At this point for us we don't have anything to lose championship-wise, so we don't have to watch our points; we can just go for it," said Starr. "The only difference in Martinsville for us to win there is the hometown correlation between Jim (Harris) and our team calling this track our home base. Skinner set for return to Randy Moss Motorsports in 2010: NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Mike Skinner appears set for a return to Randy Moss Motorsports next season - with or without full sponsorship. Several sponsors, including Exide Batteries and PC*Miler Navigator, have sponsored Skinner on a part-time basis this season, and the driver expects both to return in a similar capacity in 2010. "We're pursuing a couple of sponsors right now, and if we were to get one of those sponsors, it would really, really help Randy Moss Motorsports," Skinner, the 1995 series champion, said earlier this week. "In the meantime, David Dollar called me this week and said that he and Randy had talked and they would like to retain my services next year regardless of whether or not we get the additional sponsors." Skinner had previously indicated that his return to the two-truck organization could hinge on whether the group acquired additional sponsorship for his #5 Toyota. That doesn't appear to be the case now, however. "We have a verbal agreement, and Exide Batteries, I think, will be back with us in some capacity next year and so will PC*Miler Navigator," said Skinner, who has three victories this season. *Johnny Sauter was the Raybestos Rookie of the Race in the September 26 Las Vegas 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Sauter won the race, crossing the finish line 2.474 seconds over second-place Matt Crafton. The victory was the first for Sauter in 31 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races. He collected his fifth consecutive top-five and tenth top-10 finish of the season. Sauter claimed Raybestos Rookie of the Race honors for the FIFTH consecutive race and for the tenth time in 20 races this season.
*The victory by Sauter is the first win by a Raybestos Rookie since Scott Speed captured the 2008 AAA Insurance 200 at Dover International Speedway, a span of 36 races.
*Two other Raybestos Rookies finished inside the top-10 at Las Vegas: Brian Ickler and Tayler Malsam. Ickler claimed his third top-10 of the season while Malsam overcame an early race spin to post a 10th-place finish, his 10th top-10 in 2009.

Piquet & Meira test with Red Horse Racing: UPDATE 4 Session rained out; rescheduled for Tuesday: Nelson Piquet Jr., who became the source of a recent scandal known as 'crash-gate', will be testing in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with an eye towards a future in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series with in two years. Piquet Jr., will get behind the wheel of a Toyota Tundra for Red Horse Racing on October 12th. He is expected in the team's Mooresville North Carolina shop Monday for a seat fitting. The Renault F1 team fired the 23-year-old Brazilian earlier this season for underperformance. Shortly after details emerged that Piquet had been ordered to cause a crash in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix that allowed his teammate Fernando Alonso to win. After an investigation and hearing, Formula One's governing body, the FIA, held a hearing and banned Renault F1's team boss Flavio Briatore for life and the team's technical engineer Pat Symonds for five years. They also placed the team on a 'suspended ban' for two years. The one day test scheduled for Monday, October 12th, will be the first time behind the wheel of a stock car for Formula 1 driver, Nelson Piquet, and IndyCar Series driver, Vitor Meira. Red Horse Racing will field two Toyota Tundras (both displaying #1) for Piquet and Meira to test on the short track at Rockingham Speedway. Red Horse Drivers Timothy Peters and TJ Bell will also be on hand to help the open wheel drivers acclimate to their first stock car test. Both Piquet and Meira plan to use this test with Red Horse Racing to evaluate a future career among the NASCAR ranks. "James and Steve Turner from Steve Turner Motorsports have spoken to me unofficially and confirmed that he'll be moving along next year. We'll let them announce that when the time is right for them, and then we'll announce that the Circle Bar Racing #10 Ford F-150 is open for next year." Drivers question pit-road procedures; changes being considered: To get an idea of just how strongly some people oppose NASCAR's rule prohibiting Camping World Truck Series drivers from taking tires and fuel on the same pit stop, consider Mike Skinner's view on the matter. "That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen in racing in 35 years," says Skinner, the 1995 series champion. The rule was initially instituted to help teams save money because it reduced the number of men a team could have over pit wall from seven to five. But it also forced drivers to make separate stops for tires and fuel - potentially jumbling up the running order and increasing the possibility that a caution in the middle of a series of green-flag stops could impact the outcome of a race. Rick Ren, crew chief for points leader Ron Hornaday, understands why NASCAR opted to make the rule, but that doesn't mean he supports the policy."I don't care for it," Ren says. "I haven't cared for it all year. It's the rules that we've been dealt, and we have to deal within them." Skinner and fellow veteran Rick Crawford suggest the rule might also jeopardize competitors' safety because it makes teams willing to leave their drivers on the track on older tires to avoid a second pit stop and the risk of getting trapped a lap down. Crawford doesn't see where forcing teams to have fewer men over the wall has done much to relieve the financial burden on teams in a sluggish economy. And he believes any savings haven't been enough to justify drivers having to make separate stops for tires and fuel. Truck Series Director Wayne Auton says that NASCAR is aware that the rule hasn't been popular among some drivers and teams and that the sanctioning body is considering changes for 2010. NASCAR Vice President of Competition Robin Pemberton says the sanctioning body is also leaning toward implementing double-file restarts for the Truck series next year, as it already has for the Sprint Cup and Nationwide series. Unlike the much-maligned pit-stop rules, double-file restarts would be well-received based on early indications. Compton in Captains Choice Golf Tournament: Following the Las Vegas 350, the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will enjoy three weeks off before returning to action at Compton's hometown track of Martinsville Speedway on Saturday, October 24th. During the break, Compton will participate in a Captains Choice Golf Tournament that is open to the public at Twin Oaks Golf Club in Statesville, N.C.
