Peters, Hensley Head Home As Champions, But Want More
Bodine Goes Pink For A Good Cause At Martinsville
White To Make 100th Start At Martinsville
Peters, Hensley Head Home As Defending Champions, But Want More
Hometown roots run deep for defending race winner Timothy Peters (No. 17 Red Horse Racing Toyota) and crew chief Jeff Hensley — both Martinsville, Va., natives. Peters led 84 laps en route to his first NASCAR victory last October, capturing an emotional win in front of the hometown crowd. “Winning at Martinsville last year was really special for me because it was close to home,” said Peters. “To win there was the best moment of my career so far.”
Before joining Red Horse Racing during the summer of 2009, Peters had just five top-10 finishes on his resume. Since then he has accumulated two wins – including the season opener at Daytona, five top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. Not too shabby considering this is only his second full season in the series. That’s progress his crew chief is more than happy with. “The biggest difference in Timothy since last year is his confidence level,” said Hensley. “His start to last season was a rough one with lots of uncertainty, and after coming to Red Horse Racing, he really learned a lot.”
Though last year’s victory will always be special, Peters is on a mission to do it again and take home the famed Martinsville grandfather clock trophy, being presented to the winner for the first time in series history this October. “That is a huge deal,” said Peters. “I wish it would have started last fall. I would have it sitting in my living room right now. It should give everybody a little more incentive. I know I want that clock.”
Four Females Can Make History At Martinsville
Four female drivers will attempt to make the Kroger 200 this weekend at Martinsville Speedway – including two sisters making their first NASCAR series start. If all four make Saturday's race, it will be the first time in NASCAR national series history that four females competed in the same event.
Jennifer Jo Cobb (No. 10 DrivenMale.com Ford F-150) is the veteran leader of the group with 24 career starts in the series.
Twin sisters Angela Cope (No. 01 Odyssey Battery-Koma Dodge) and Amber Cope (No. 6 Odyssey Battery-Koma Dodge) will be making their series debut this weekend and become the first sisters to compete in national series competition. “This is what we have strived for since we started racing go-carts,” said Angela . “We successfully ran go-carts for years across the Northwest, then moved to North Carolina over five years ago with a dream to race stock cars or trucks. We will now get the opportunity to earn the respect of our competitors.”
Earlier this season at O’Reilly Raceway Park at Indianapolis, Johanna Long (No. 20 Panhandle Grading &Paving Toyota) was in the same shoes as the Cope twins qualifying for her first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series for Billy Ballew Motorsports event where she finished 17th in her series debut. Since then, Long has made three additional series starts and now competes for her family-owned Panhandle Motorsports. “It's a privilege to be at a race track,” said Long. “I stay humble and keep my nose down, try to learn, and try to get a top 15 every time I hit the track. Consistency is the name of the game right now, as well as taking each day as it comes. Every track is different, and I have to slowly but surely adapt to each one of them. The competition and talent in the Truck Series is amazing. There is nothing like it in the world.”
Bodine Goes Pink For A Good Cause At Martinsville
After 41 short track starts and six runner-up finishes, series points leader Todd Bodine (No. 30 Germain.com Toyota) is still searching for his first victory on a track less than a mile. Hard to believe considering he has 21 career wins in the series. So he is changing things up for a good cause in this weekend’s race in Martinsville by going pink. Bodine will be piloting a pink Toyota Tundra in an effort to raise awareness for Breast Cancer research. “Promoting Breast Cancer Awareness has been an important mission for Germain Racing since our first season in the Truck Series,” said Bodine. “All of the Germain Racing race vehicles will have pink ribbons on them through October in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness month, but the 30 team is taking it a step further. The Germain.com Tundra is going to be very pink. The truck is going to look great. I can’t wait to see it.”
White To Make 100th Start At Martinsville
Once Jason White takes the green on Saturday, his NASCAR Camping World Truck Series career will hit the 100-start marker. That’s the equivalent of four full seasons. But his topsy-turvy tenure must feel much longer than that. Over his first 99 starts, White has four top fives and nine top 10s – all of those coming within the last two seasons. It took White 59 starts to nab his first top-10 finish. So, in other words, he has nine top 10s in his last 41 starts – a solid 22% clip.
This 2010 season has been his best. With five races remaining, White has a real shot at finishing the season in the top 10 in points. Currently 11th, White trails 10th-place Justin Lofton by a scant four points. If the momentum – in the form of four consecutive top 15s – continues, White could easily move into the top 10 by the weekend. Over the last four races (which includes a fourth at Kentucky), White has an average finish of 10.8, a Driver Rating of 81.2, an Average Running Position of 13.5 and a Laps in the Top 15 percentage of 81.6. Plus, he’s solid at Martinsville. Though still looking for his first top-10 at the short track, White finished 13th in this race last season. Another rare note: White will run in his fourth different manufacturer this season – all of them in the last four races.
Dillon Ready For Another Chance at Martinsville
When the series last raced on the paperclip shaped short track known as Martinsville Speedway, Austin Dillon (No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/ Remington/Tracker Boats Chevrolet) was fresh into his rookie year. And to say he was schooled during his first outing at the speedway is an understatement – after starting 19th, Dillon spun out twice during the 250 lap event. However, since then Dillon has made up a lot of ground, capturing two wins, seven top-five finishes and five poles in the season. "We've progressed so much as a team since the spring race at Martinsville,” said Dillon. “We're heading into the race as the defending series winners, and I think the momentum we have following our Las Vegas win and pole, along with other recent successes, will help us at Martinsville."

In the previous 23 races at Martinsville Speedway, 19 different winners have visited Victory Lane. Four races have been won from the pole and only one race has been won from a starting position outside the top 20. Mike Skinner (No. 5 International Trucks-Monaco RV Toyota), Kevin Harvick (No. 2 Efans Chevrolet) and Dennis Setzer (No. 92 FleetHQ-BTS Tire-QMi Chevrolet) are multi-truck winners at the .526-mile oval.
The battle for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owners’ championship continues to heat up. Steve Germain, owner of the No. 30 Toyota entry, leads Kyle Busch, owner and driver of the No. 18 Toyota entry, by just 39 points. Busch is scheduled to run the final five races of the season.
Justin Lofton (No. 7 visitpit.com Toyota) will attend the Future Farmers of America (FFA) national convention this week in Indianapolis before traveling to Martinsville. Lofton, a former member of FFA, will sign autographs at the Toyota booth.
The NASCAR Camping World Truck officials will go pink this weekend at Martinsville to show their support for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure movement. The officials will wear pink bracelets and pink ribbon patches to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness.
Current NASCAR K&N West Series Champion Jason Bowles (No. 15 BBM Toyota) will pilot the second Billy Ballew Motorsports entry this weekend. Bowles made his truck series debut at Las Vegas last month and finished 16th.
The University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNCC) recently dedicated its motorsports lab to Alan Kulwicki. The UNCC Motorsports-Automotive Research Center will support Wes Burton (No. 16 University of North Carolina Motorsports Automotive Research Center Chevrolet) this weekend at Martinsville.
NASCAR announced last Saturday all three national series will use Sunoco Green E-15 fuel beginning in 2011. The Sunoco Green E-15 fuel is a 15 percent ethanol blend using American–made ethanol from corn grown by American farmers.
Kevin Harvick has finished in the top 10 in six of the 10 races he has entered at Martinsville in truck series competition. If he finishes in the top 10 this weekend, he will earn his 50th career top-five in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Ricky Carmichael’s (No. 4 Monster Energy Chevrolet) Tallahassee, Fla., home is featured in the November issue of Architectural Digest.
Johanna Long will have some extra help this weekend. Two Girl Scouts from the local Girl Scout Skyline Council of Virginia will be honorary pit crew members on the No. 20 team. All Girl Scouts who attend the Kroger 200 at Martinsville Speedway in their uniform will get in free. Long is a supporter of the “Year of the Girl Scout” campaign and their upcoming cookie sales program
Up Next: Talladega Superspeedway
Talk about shifting gears. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series travels from the short corners of Martinsville to the high banks of Talladega Superspeedway for the Mountain Dew 250 fueled by Fred’s on Saturday, Oct. 30.
The race will mark the series’ fifth visit to the famed 2.66-mile track. Kyle Busch (No. 18 Z-Line Designs Toyota) is the defending winner. Mark Martin won the series’ inaugural race in 2006. Todd Bodine (No. 30 Germain.com Toyota) followed with back-to-back victories in 2007 and 2008.(NASCAR PR)(10-19-2010)

Martinsville: Good Stop On Schedule For Winless Skinner
Kyle Busch Motorsports Hosts Grand Opening Of New Race Facility
Points Cushion No Longer In Peters' Pocket
Martinsville: Good Stop On Schedule For Winless Skinner
Mike Skinner (No. 5 International Trucks / Monaco RV Toyota) continues to search for that elusive victory in 2010. Skinner, who won the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series championship in 1995, has scored at least one victory in the last five seasons. However, this season—full of unpredicted challenges—has been less than stellar compared to Skinner's norm. He has only two top fives and nine top-10 finishes in the first 20 races. "We lost our crew chief to Kyle Busch Motorsports in January, which was really upsetting," said Skinner."You always do better the second year with your crew chief and team as you build chemistry. The dynamic of our team changed and it was pretty disheartening." However, a victory could be right around the corner for the Randy Moss Motorsports team now led by Stacy Johnson, for whom Skinner worked during his time at Richard Childress Racing."With Stacy on the box, we've been improving week after week" said Skinner, who currently sits eighth in the series standings.
Skinner has five wins and 23 top-five finishes at the final five race tracks on the schedule. Three of those wins came at the next stop on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series schedule—Martinsville Speedway. And it's coming at a good place in Skinner's season. Skinner has led over 600 laps—the most of any driver in truck series competition—at the famed short track known for its long straight-aways and short tight corners. He shares the record for most wins—three—at the speedway with Dennis Setzer.
In the past five seasons, Skinner's annual victories came before, or at, the fall Martinsville event.
Kyle Busch Motorsports Hosts Grand Opening Of New Race Facility
Truck series team owner Kyle Busch (No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota) will host the Grand Opening of Kyle Busch Motorsports on Thursday, Oct. 14 beginning at 9 a.m. The 77,000-square-foot facility houses the No. 18 Toyota Tundra race trucks fielded by Busch in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series."We're proud of our team, we're thankful for our sponsors and supporters, and we're so glad to invite everyone to our race shop," said Busch, who has four NCWTS victories this season."Actually, I think ‘corporate headquarters' is a more appropriate description of what we have here. Not only do we build and prepare our race trucks, we also are equipped to conduct executive meetings and gatherings for our partners and prospective partners on a daily basis." Busch, along with KBM truck series driver, Brian Ickler (No. 18 KBM Toyota), will be onsite to sign autographs. Busch is expected to compete in the final five races of the season. He currently sits only 39 points outside the top spot in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owners' standings.
NCWTS, Etc.
Austin Dillon (No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet) spent Monday filming a segment for the famed television game show, The Price Is Right. Dillon filmed the show along with Richard Childress Racing teammate Clint Bowyer. The duo introduced their respective showcases to the contestants. The episode is scheduled to air at the end of the season during race week at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series regulars Aric Almirola (No.15 Zyclara/Graceway Pharmaceuticals Toyota), James Buescher (No. 31 Wolf Pack Rentals Chevrolet), and David Starr (No. 81 Zachry Toyota) will attempt this weekend's Dollar General 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway before returning to truck series action next weekend at Martinsville Speedway.
Truck Series sponsor Camping World will host a 10-day sales event surrounding the Charlotte race weekend festivities. The sale kicked off last Friday at the Camping World display at Concord Mills mall and will run until Sunday, Oct. 17. Fans will have the opportunity to trade in their current RV for an upgraded model or shop for a new RV unit.
Points Cushion No Longer In Peters' Pocket
Five races ago, a final top-five standings position seemed like a lock for Timothy Peters. He sat third in the standings, coming off his sixth consecutive top-10 finish. Peters was a comfortable 105 points inside the top five. But then the hiccups came, in the form of a 21st-place run at Chicagoland Speedway and a 26th at Las Vegas. Sandwiched between those were two solid sixth-place finishes. But the damage has been done.
Peters has dropped two points positions in the last four races. His statistics over those four: an average finish of 14.8, a Driver Rating of 87.6, an Average Running Position of 10.6, a Pass Differential of minus-2 and a Laps in the Top 15 percentage of 82.1%. Now, that top-five cushion has completely evaporated. Though still officially ranked fifth, he's in a points tie with sixth-place Matt Crafton. The only thing keeping him in the top five: the tiebreaker—in the form of his win at Daytona to open the season.
Another misstep might permanently remove Peters from the top five. Luckily for him, that likely won't happen at Martinsville, the site of the next race. Peters nabbed his first career national series win there last year, in impressive fashion. In that October event, he scored a Driver Rating of 129.0 and had an Average Running Position of 5.4.
Up Next: Martinsville
The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will return to racing next weekend at Martinsville Speedway after the final three open weekends on the schedule. The Kroger 200 on Saturday, Oct. 23 will be the series' 24th visit to the .526–mile track. In the previous 23 races at the paperclip shaped oval, 18 different winners have visited Victory Lane. Four race winners have won from the pole—Rich Bickle, Jack Sprague, Mike Skinner and Kevin Harvick (No. 2 KHI Chevrolet). Only one race winner (Dennis Setzer) has won from a starting position outside the top 20. Martinsville native Timothy Peters won last year's event, scoring his first career NASCAR victory.(NASCAR PR)(10-11-2010)

Justin Lofton Rookie Season Success Not To Be Overlooked

Dillon Set To Help Re-Open Nashville Bass Pro Shops
Lofton’s Rookie Season Success Not To Be Overlooked
Most drivers would give anything to have a rookie season similar to the one Justin Lofton (No. 7 visitpit.com Toyota) has had in 2010. With four top-five and six top-10 finishes plus a top-10 position in the series standings, he has easily made a name for himself. Despite statistics that are comparable to the past four Raybestos Rookie of the Year winners in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series — Johnny Sauter (No. 13 Curb Records Chevrolet), Colin Braun, Willie Allen and Erik Darnell — Lofton finds himself mired in second place in the rookie standings, 54 points behind rookie standout Austin Dillon (No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet).
Lofton’s, the 2009 ARCA Racing Series presented by RE/MAX and Menards champion, season has not been without hurdles — including two DNFs this season. “The biggest challenge has been learning how to momentum race,” said Lofton. “I was used to running the ARCA cars which had plenty of horsepower to carry you up and out of the corners. In the trucks, if you lose any speed, it takes a lap or two to regain it.”
Luckily for Lofton he has had several veterans — Todd Bodine (No. 30 GermainRacing.com Toyota) and Terry Cook — to lean on in the series for advice. And not a bad choice of veterans to reach out to ... considering the duo has 27 combined victories in the series. “There have been many different factors that have played into our team's recent success,” he said. “Bringing Terry Cook on board as driver coach/spotter has really helped me explain to my crew chief, Mark Rette, what the truck needs to handle. Todd Bodine helping me out has given me the confidence to run with them up front. And, a lot of it’s Rette and the team bringing great trucks every weekend and standing behind me.” Even though Lofton may not bring home the Rookie of the Year honors this season, his early success should not go unnoticed.

Almirola Solid, Sauter Just A Tad Better
Aric Almirola knows all about the tough competition in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Practically every week, Almirola hammers down a top-10 finish (he’s working on eight straight, currently). Yet practically every week, his points deficit balloons. Since relinquishing his points lead to Todd Bodine after the Charlotte event in May, Almirola has seen his deficit grow from a scant two points to triple digits (currently, it’s at 262 points).
Yet over that time, Almirola has been very strong. In those 14 races since he lost the points lead, Almirola has an average finish of 9.1, a Driver Rating of 98.0, an Average Running Position of 10.2, a Laps in the Top 15 percentage of 80.1 and 29 Fastest Laps Run. Another sign that Almirola needs to finish better than he has already is: his stranglehold on second place is loosening. The reason: As well as Almirola has run, Johnny Sauter has been that much better. Almirola’s points lead over third place was at a high of 110 points. It’s now down to 38. Over that same span of 14 races, Sauter has an average finish of 6.1, a Driver Rating of 102.9, an Average Running Position of 7.5, a Laps in the Top 15 percentage of 93.7 and 72 Fastest Laps Run. Though Sauter has not won over that period, he does have four runner-up finishes.
Dillon Set To Help Re-open Nashville Bass Pro Shops
It is no secret that when Austin Dillon is not at the race track piloting the famed black No. 3 he can be found fishing on the lake or enjoying the scenery from the deer stand – a perfect match for his sponsor, Bass Pro Shops. Later this month Dillon will have the opportunity to partner with his sponsor for the grand re-opening of the Bass Pro Shops located at Opry Mills Mall in Nashville, which received devastating damage due to a massive flood earlier this year. The Music City location has been closed for four months. “I always enjoy checking different Bass Pro Shops locations when I travel to races, so I am anxious to see how the Nashville store has changed since the remodeling,” said Dillon (No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet). The flooding in Nashville was a pretty bad deal. Many people were affected, including race fans, so it’s neat to see some of the places devastated by the flood rebuilt.”
The “re-grand” opening will take place on Thursday, Oct. 14. Dillon will be on site to help raise money for flood victims still recovering and sign autographs.

Dillon Wins Another One In Vegas And Breaks Pole Record
At the beginning of the 2010 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series season, Raybestos Rookie of the Year contender Austin Dillon (No. 3 Bass Pro Shops/Remington/Tracker Boats Chevrolet) knew he had to perform. If being the grandson of NASCAR team owner Richard Childress and the son of Richard Childress Racing general manager Mike Dillon wasn't enough, he climbed behind the wheel of the famed black No. 3 Chevrolet.
With five races remaining in the 2010 season, the 20-year-old from Welcome, N.C., has not only lived up to expectations, he has rewritten the history books in the process. Saturday afternoon at Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dillon won his fifth 21Means21 pole of the season (Texas, Michigan, Iowa, Kentucky and Las Vegas) and broke one of the series' oldest freshman records in the books.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competitors Kurt Busch and Greg Biffle previously held the record at four.
Very reminiscent of his dominating performance from the pole earlier this season at Iowa Speedway, Dillon led 93 laps at the Las Vegas track en route to his second series victory. “To come out and win after last week for my granddad means a lot,” said Dillon. “He told me earlier last week that I had to win this race for him. To come out here and do it is pretty awesome. You dream about stuff like this. When it comes true, it is great.”
Dillon becomes the first rookie since 2003 (Carl Edwards) to win multiple races during the rookie season.
With five races remaining in the 2010 season, Dillon has plenty of time to match the series record for wins in a rookie season, currently held by Busch with four.

Ricky Carmichael (No. 4 Monster Energy Chevrolet), Jennifer Jo Cobb (No. 10 DrivenMale.com Ford) and Aric Almirola (No. 51 Zyclara/Graceway Pharmaceuticals Toyota) will attempt this weekend's Kansas Lottery 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race. It will be Carmichael's first attempt at NASCAR's second tier series.
Steve Germain, owner of the No. 30 Germainracing.com Toyota, holds a 39-point lead over Kyle Busch (No. 18 Kyle Busch Motorsports Toyota) in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series owners' standings. Busch is expected to compete in the final five races of the season in a quest to win the prestigious title in his first year as a team owner.
Buescher Impressive In Second Half Of 2010 Season
This burst of success from James Buescher (No. 31 Wolfpack Rentals Chevrolet) shouldn't surprise anyone. He had a similar string earlier this season. At Dover in May, he finished second. A week later, he finished fourth. And a couple of weeks after that, he posted a sixth at Texas. So, when it rains it pours for the 20-year-old.
But this one seems destined to continue. His runner-up finish at New Hampshire and his third last weekend at Las Vegas weren't flukes. The numbers suggest that, anyway. In the two events, Buescher had a Driver Rating of 120.0, an Average Running Position of 4.1, 38 Fastest Laps Run, 25 Laps Led (the first laps led of his season), and he ran all 321 laps among the top 15. His statistics from that first string of consecutive top 10s: a Driver Rating of 96.2, an Average Running Position of 9.6, 10 Fastest Laps Run and a Laps in the Top 15 percentage of 88.4%.
Buescher now sits just 84 points outside the top 10, an impressive feat considering he missed the first three races while competing solely in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Two races ago, that deficit was 157 points. That's a 73-point swing. Next up for Buescher and the rest of the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series is Martinsville. Buescher didn't enter the first Martinsville race this season, but finished 11th in both races at the Virginia short track in 2009.
