2014 PAINT SCHEME NEWS

  • Dumb and Dumber To featured on #23 & #83 cars at Phoenix: BK Racing announced a partnership with Universal Pictures and Granite Pictures to promote Dumb and Dumber To, which hits theaters nationwide on November 14. Alex Bowman's yellow #23 Toyota Camry will carry the image of Lloyd Christmas, while JJ Yeley's blue #83 Toyota Camry will carry the image of Harry Dunne. Arizona natives Bowman and Yeley will be competing at their home track this weekend.
Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels reprise their signature roles as Lloyd and Harry in the sequel to the 1994 smash hit that took the physical comedy and kicked it in the nuts: Dumb and Dumber To. The original film's directors, Peter and Bobby Farrelly, take Lloyd and Harry on a road trip to find a child Harry never knew he had and the responsibility neither should ever, ever be given. "This is a huge deal for BK Racing to promote one of the most popular movies of all-time," said Ron Devine, team owner of BK Racing. "Ever since I found out about this deal coming together many months ago I have been very excited. We hope to play a big role in promoting Dumb and Dumber To to NASCAR fans who will be attendance in Phoenix and the millions watching on television."
"I was only a little kid when the original movie came out, but I have seen it many times on television, said Bowman. "I like much of the team have been extremely excited for this deal and I hope to give them a great run this weekend in Phoenix."
"I am very excited to apart of this partnership this weekend in Phoenix," said Yeley. "Racing at my home track in front of friends, family and hardcore supporter is always enjoyable, but having a piece of motion-picture history on board is an added bonus." To learn more, visit www.dumblr.com or be a part of the phenomenon by using social media hashtag #DumbTo and #MuttCuttsTour.(BK Racing).

As an Arizona company, IGT is excited about the opportunity to promote their fuelxx brand at their hometown NASCAR track, Phoenix International Raceway. "We are proud of our relationship with IGT and its revolutionary fuelxx product," said Ron Devine, team owner of BK Racing. "We welcome their enthusiasm for Cole, Alex and our team and hope that PIR (Phoenix International Raceway) is just the beginning of a long term partnership and brand alignment. Our first-hand experience with fuelxx" made us believers in their product and their company."
"I'm really excited to have fuelxx on board at Phoenix," said Whitt. "2014 has been great to partner with many excellent companies and fuelxx and their customers will enjoy a great ride this weekend."(BK Racing), see an image of the scheme on the #26 Team Schemes page.(11-7-2014)

  • LiftMaster to honor Prescott Granite Mountain "Hotshots" at Phoenix: The #1 LiftMaster Chevy of Jamie McMurray will carry a special look this weekend to honor 19 firefighters from the Prescott Granite Mountain "Hotshots" who lost their lives battling a wildfire at Yarnell Hill, Ariz. in June 2013. As a tribute to their heroism, the hood of the LiftMaster Chevy SS will carry the names of all 19 firefighters, as LiftMaster, Jamie McMurray and Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates honor these fallen heroes and their families this weekend for the Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500.(CGR), see an image of the scheme on the #1 Team Schemes page.(11-7-2014)

  • Larson to run camo scheme at Phoenix: In honor and observance of Veteran's Day, which is Nov. 11, the usually easy to spot Team Target Chevy will feature a red camouflage paint scheme. The camo paint scheme is a small way of saying thank you to all the military veterans for their sacrifice and service. Target has hired veterans in 2014 in conjunction with their work with the 100,000 Jobs Mission, which is a pledge to hire more veterans and has seen over 140,000 veterans hired this year. In addition to the special camo paint scheme this weekend, Larson also will be showing support for the Pat Tillman Foundation, which was founded to honor the late Arizona State University (ASU) player and U.S. Army Ranger. Tillman, who wore #42 while playing at ASU, proudly put his NFL career with the Arizona Cardinals on hold to serve in the Army, and was killed in action in Afghanistan while serving with the 75th Ranger Regiment. The Pat Tillman Foundation was established in 2008 to honor Tillman's legacy of leadership and service through investing in veterans and their spouses through academic scholarships, and has invested more than $10 million in academic support.(CGR)(11-7-2014)

While the three Busch canines are no strangers to the racetrack, they will be in a unique position - actually, their likenesses will be - during Sunday's Sprint Cup Series Quicken Loans Race for Heroes 500k at Phoenix International Raceway. Kelly, Suzie and Lucy will ride along with Busch as their pictures will adorn Busch's #18 Banfield Pet Hospital Toyota. Kyle and Samantha Busch travel with their four-legged friends every opportunity they get, and this is the first time they'll be included on the #18 Toyota Camry paint scheme fielded by Joe Gibbs Racing. West-Highland Terriers Suzie and Kelly have been part of Busch's extended race team since he began racing in NASCAR's top touring series in 2005. Lucy, a Pomeranian Yorkie, joined the family shortly after the Busches were married in 2010. Founded in 1955, Banfield Pet Hospital is the largest privately owned veterinary practice in the world. The practice has more than 850 hospitals in the United States and Puerto Rico, most of which are located inside PetSmart stores. And, good news for the Busches in case there is a need for veterinary service while on they're on the road, chances are there is always a Banfield Pet Hospital nearby (JGR), see an image of the scheme on the #18 Team Schemes page.(11-5-2014)

In addition, Budweiser has introduced a limited-edition, handmade wooden crate with 18 bottles of Budweiser and two pilsner glasses inside, all featuring authentic classic labels. Only 10,000 of the wooden crates - handmade by Vintage Editions in North Carolina - will be available, hitting shelves across the country this week. This season the #42 Target Chevrolet SS will feature a two-tone paint scheme of red and white, with the dominant color changing based on the start time of the race. The car will shine bright at night races with a white paint scheme that fades into red along the rear of the car. His first race came at the same concrete mile oval where the Sprint Cup Series will race this weekend. In that first race, Busch started 10th and finished 18th. Now, 499 races, 25 Sprint Cup Series victories and one Sprint Cup Series championship later, Busch is poised to make his 500th start at the same track where his Sprint Cup career began. To commemorate his accomplishment, Busch's Haas Automation Chevy will have a special brushed-metal appearance this weekend at Dover and also will carry a 500th start logo on the nose of the car. For the third consecutive season, Busch has teamed with the Armed Forces Foundation to race in memory or in honor of a service member for each race during the 2014 Sprint Cup campaign. More than 1,000 schemes were submitted by NASCAR fans nationwide and after three finalists were chosen, fans voted at QLRacing.com to determine the look of Newman's ride for the Dover Sprint Cup race. As part of the grand prize package, Pass, a middle school teacher, and his family will travel to the race to meet and see Newman tame the Monster Mile. • NASCAR, Front Row to honor Wendell Scott at Martinsville: NASCAR, Front Row Motorsports, Kyle Busch Motorsports and Martinsville Speedway announced they will honor 2015 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductee Wendell Scott, the first African-American driver to win a NASCAR premier series event, with a series of tributes during the Martinsville race weekend from Oct. 24-26. Front Row Motorsports will pay homage to Scott, also the first African-American driver to race full-time in NASCAR's premier series, with a full throwback paint scheme on its #34 Ford driven by David Ragan, reminiscent of the blue #34 that he drove to Victory Lane for his first NASCAR premier series victory at Jacksonville Speedway on Dec. 1, 1963. Ragan is one of just three drivers to win in the #34, and the first since Scott. In addition, Kyle Busch Motorsports will change the number of Darrell Wallace Jr.'s truck from 54 to 34 in honor of Scott. A NASCAR Drive for Diversity graduate, Wallace became the first African-American to win a NASCAR national series race since Scott's historic 1963 triumph when he captured the checkered flag in last season's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Kroger 200 at Martinsville. Adding to the celebration, Martinsville Speedway and the NHOF will host members of the Scott family during the race weekend and offer special Q&A opportunities for fans on-site.
NASCAR currently awards scholarships in Scott's name through the United Negro College Fund, the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund. The Wendell Scott Trailblazer Award is awarded to a diverse or female driver in the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series who has demonstrated significant contributions on and off the track. In addition, NASCAR has designated the first race weekend in March as a time to remember Wendell Scott's legacy during a week that marks his first career start. • #33 to run #90 at Richmond to honor Donlavey UPDATE: David Stremme will drive the renumbered #90 (one race deal instead of #33) Circle Sport Chevy at Richmond on September 6. The team will run the #90 and colors that the late former NASCAR team owner Junie Donlavey. Donlavey's cars ran 863 Sprint Cup Seires races from 1950 to 2002 with 1 win, 60 top-fives and 218 top-tens. Donlavey passed away in June 2014 (Circle Sport Twitter). Running the #90 instead of the #33 will have no effect on the #33 owners points standing.
UPDATE: As a special tribute to the late Junie Donlavey, Circle Sport will run the #90 this weekend at Richmond International Raceway with David Stremme behind the wheel. Donlavey, a Richmond native and NASCAR team owner for more than 50 years, was a mentor to Circle Sport team owner Joe Falk, and NASCAR granted Falk a request to change the #33 entry to the number #90 at RIR for Saturday night's primetime Sprint Cup race. In addition to the one-time number change, Stremme will pilot a retro Truxmore-inspired livery made famous by Donlavey Racing during the 1970s and early '80s, which will also commemorate each of the 67 Sprint Cup drivers that drove for Donlavey with individual designation on the decklid of the #90 Tribute to Junie Donlavey Chevrolet SS.
"When Junie passed away in June, we worked closely with NASCAR and the Donlavey family to make this tribute car possible by changing our familiar number 33 to Junie's signature 90 for the fall race at Richmond," said team owner Joe Falk. "Junie was a mentor of mine from the time I was competing in NASCAR all the way through my involvement in team ownership, and I always dreamed of one day driving his No. 90 - a list that reads like a Who's Who of NASCAR. I'm just glad we're able to pay tribute to Junie and his family in front of the hometown crowd by showcasing the retro paint scheme this weekend and having some of his family in attendance on Saturday. Junie was one of the true pioneers of the sport of NASCAR, and I like to think we're building our team the same way he did over 60 years ago."
Donlavey Racing began fielding a NASCAR team in 1950, and Donlavey earned a reputation of hiring young drivers over his tenure, with Ken Schrader and Jody Ridley winning NASCAR Rookie-of-the-Year honors. A veteran of the United States Navy, Donlavey embarked on his automotive career following his time in the service by starting his own auto repair business and developed an interest in racing, where he briefly tried driving race cars before focusing on ownership. He was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2007, and also was the recipient of the 1992 Smokey Yunick Award and the STP Richard Petty Achievement Award in 1998.(Circle Sport)

I'm excited for the fans to see it and look forward to kicking off the relationship at one of my favorite racetracks."(HMS)(8-29-2014)

  • Dogecoin and Reddit Partner with Phil Parsons Racing for Talladega: In a partnership effort between Dogecoin and Reddit, the #98 Ford Fusion of Phil Parsons Racing will have a new look at Talladega. Earlier this year, Reddit user and tech fan Denis Pavel noticed a plain black car with a driver he felt 'raced the wheels off the car' during a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race. The lack of sponsorship caused Pavel to think of some of the significant fundraisers that he's witnessed on the Reddit platform.
"I didn't really know much about Dogecoin or Reddit when Denis Pavel initially reached out to us about the race at Talladega Superspeedway," commented Parsons. "He watched a race on television and was excited about what he saw from Josh Wise and our team. We were able to connect on Twitter and everything took off from there-it's amazing how social media allows sports fans to actually connect to us, and that it would allow something like this to come together. As far as I know, this is the first online effort like this that's been able to fund sponsorship for a NASCAR team, so it's pretty cool to be a part of it."
"I knew that Dogecoin had done some significant fundraisers, like sending the Jamaican bobsled team to the Olympics," Pavel said. "I was thinking what kind of response I would get if I did ask the (Reddit) community about sponsoring a Sprint Cup car. They were all with it."
Familiar with the digital currency Dogecoin, the 16-year-old Pavel from Niles, Ill., decided to utilize the currency to raise sponsorship funds for driver Josh Wise and the #98 Ford Fusion team. Exceeding their initial goal by 10% within the opening week, Dogecoin and Reddit were able to partner with Phil Parsons Racing for the Sprint Cup Series event at Talladega Superspeedway.
"We are all about fun and goofiness," commented Ben Doernberg, board member at the Dogecoin Foundation. "At the same time, we want to make sure that digital currency is really giving back to the world. We do feel like this is a technology that can make the world a better place, and we want to put that into practice by doing fundraisers."
To date, this marks the first fundraising effort through Dogecoin and Reddit to sponsor a NASCAR race team. In addition to raising funds online, the team also took to the internet allowing Reddit users to vote on a paint scheme for Sunday's event. "The more we've walked through this fundraising effort, it has really been special to us," commented Wise. "People are noticing our effort. We're a tiny little team with seven or eight employees. The amount of support we're getting from the Reddit community ... we're just trying to do the best job we can."(Phil Parsons Racing), see images of the scheme/car on the #98 Team Schemes page.(5-1-2014)

It continues to evolve and that's why it's worked for so long."(Lionel Racing), more about CGR and Taret at chipganassiracing.com, see an image of the scheme on the #42 Team Schemes page.(4-19-2014)

  • Vickers bringing awareness to blot clots with special scheme: Brian Vickers has overcome blood clots twice in his life. He's taking steps to make sure others are just as fortunate. The Michael Waltrip Racing driver will pilot the #55 TREATMYCLOT.com Aaron's Toyota in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Auto Club Speedway. He'll also kickoff Blood Clot Awareness Month with Janssen to enhance the public's understanding about the problem that twice sidelined his racing career. Vickers missed most of the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup season recovering from blood clots in his legs and around his lungs. He returned to competition in 2011 and earned his third career victory driving the Aaron's Dream Machine in July 2013. In October, the discovery of a blood clot in his right calf, after wearing a walking boot, sidelined him for the final four races. He's returned full-time in 2014 on a mission to win races and help race fans know the warning signs and treatment for blood clots. Brian Vickers: "I want people to be mindful of what the signs and symptoms are. Visit www.TREATMYCLOT.COM to learn about the warning signs and if you experience any of the signs or symptoms talk to your doctor. That's the best thing to do. I'm always mindful and take precautions. When you're taking long flights, you stand up and you walk around. That's not just for me, everyone should do that. Obviously I keep an eye out for signs and symptoms, but my last incident was a provoked incident. I had to wear an ankle brace for a month, which is known to create clots. In those situations in the future, I will be more mindful and probably more careful and maybe try to get ahead of it. Other than that I just live my life and go racing."(Michael Waltrip Racing), see an image of the car on the #55 team paint schemes page.(3-19-2014)
