After the 36 Charters were decided, the following teams did not have a Charter:
#19 Joe Gibbs Racing, Carl Edwards
#21 Wood Brothers Racing, Ryan Blaney
#41 Stewart-Haas Racing, Kurt Busch
#46 HScott Motorsports, Michael Annett
The #15 and #55 Michael Waltrip Racing teams have ceased operations, and the #41 and #19 teams purchased those Charters.
Premium Motorsports will lease their Charter to the #46 HScott Motorsports team in 2016.
The #21 team will not get a Charter and have to qualifying by speed each race for the 2016 season.
Charter owners may transfer their Charter to another team, for one full season, once over the first five years of the agreement.
The number in parens in list above stand for owners points or Charter that team is currently using
such as the #95 team merged with the #33 team and was awarded a Charter due to the #33 past race attempts

Teams in RED must compete for the four remaining positions in the field each week
which will be determined through normal qualifying procedures as outlined in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rule Book.
The rest of the teams have Charters. Each Charter team owner has a guaranteed entry into the field of every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points race

# Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate

(i) = driver not running for 2016 Sprint Cup Series Championship Drivers Points

Ties are broken as follows:
1) Owners Points
2) Best finishes, most wins, 2nds, 3rds and so on until the tie is broken
3) If tie still remains, then the team with the highest position first breaks the tie
(so if two are ties, both have a win, then the team who won first gets the spot)
