Cassill and Wise racing...in Ironman World Championship UPDATE: A weekend off is just another chance for Landon Cassill and Josh Wise to race. While fellow NASCAR Sprint Cup competitors relax on a beach, some other exotic locale or at home this weekend, Cassill and Wise will compete in the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Austria. There will be little time for sightseeing, even though this is Cassill's first trip to Europe. The race, held Sunday and shown on NBCSN later this year, is half the distance of a full Ironman triathlon with a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. Cassill attempted to qualify for the world championship in June at Mont-Tremblant in Quebec, Canada, but his time of 4 hours, 47 minutes - hindered by cramping during the run - was not good enough to do so. Wise and Cassill's dad each qualified for Austria at that event. That led to Cassill competing in a half Ironman the day of the Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway in July. He drove in the Xfinity race the night before, flew to Muncie, Ind., got a couple of hours of sleep, competed in the event and then drove in the Cup race that night, finishing 28th. His time of 4:36.44 at Muncie - a personal best - placed him high enough to qualify for the world championships, which is expected to have about 2,700 athletes from more than 70 countries. Cassill says that if he can finish in 4:30, he believes he could place in the top 75. Another goal is to be in the top 20 after the swim because he says that has been his strong point. He's hoping to run the half marathon in about 90-95 minutes.(NBC Sports)(8-28-2015)
UPDATE: Casill and Wise completed the Ironman 70.3 World Championship in Austria within 6 minutes of one another.
The results for Landon Cassill: 103rd in the male 25-29 division, 867th overall, total time 5:06:04 (27:50 swim, 2:37:47bike, 1:51:32 run)
The results for Josh Wise: 180th in the male 30-34 division, 1016th overall, total time 5:12:04 (30:38 swim, 2:39:54 bike, 1:52:26 run)
Wise posted a photo to Instagram and said, "Was somehow smiling at this point. I somehow saved one of my worst performances for the Worlds! That climb over the alps was nasty! I knew I was in trouble when I crested the top of the mountain and my quads went into full cramp! Made for a LONG 13 mile run...Congrats to my buddy [Landon Cassill] as well. We have come a long way in this".(8-31-2015)
Darlington throwback scheme for Hillman Racing: While other sponsors are bringing back their "old school" logos and designs for the Bojangles' Southern 500, Snap Fitness is paying homage to an iconic car: Sterling Marlin's 2001 "God Bless America" paint scheme. Marlin's paint scheme ran for the first time in the 2001 Protection One 400, which took place a few weeks after the September 11 terrorist attacks. The paint scheme for the most part stays true to the original car run by Marlin with two patriotic phrases around the car: "Proud to be an American" on the back quarter panels and "God Bless America" on the back rear. Snap Fitness added to the design with "9/11 Never Forget" on top of the trunk, complete with a skyline showcasing the Twin Towers. This isn't the first time Snap Fitness has showed its patriotism. All summer long, America's Fitness Brand has run a campaign to benefit Folds of Honor, an organization that provides scholarships to families of fallen soldiers.(Hillman Racing), see an image of the car on the #40 team paint schemes page.(8-26-2015)

Hillman Automotive featured on the #40 at Watkins Glen: NASCAR is known for its famous families. From the founding France family to driver families like the Pettys and Allisons, and even owner and crew chief combinations such as the Wood Brothers and Yates, NASCAR racing has long been a family tradition. That same family tradition will be celebrated this weekend at Watkins Glen International with Hillman Racing and its #40 Sprint Cup Series organization. Team owner Mike Hillman Sr. is a three-time NASCAR championship crew chief, and his sons Mike Hillman Jr. and Mark Hillman have both served as crew chiefs under the elder Hillman's leadership. In Lockport, N.Y., the roots of the Hillman family, his brothers David and Ronald, are owners of the family-run business, Hillman Automotive & Tire. For a family with an automotive background, it all came together this week when Mike Hillman Sr. traveled to upstate New York on Wednesday night to be inducted into the Northeast Modified Hall of Fame and then made the short trip to Watkins Glen on Friday where he unveiled the #40 Hillman Automotive & Tire Chevy SS that will be driven by Landon Cassill in Sunday's Sprint Cup Series race. In addition to the Hillman Automotive and Tire livery this weekend, the #40 will carry a special decal commemorating Mike Hillman Sr.'s induction into the Hall of Fame in Weedsport, N.Y., on the lower quarter panel in Sunday's 90-lap road course event.(Hillman Racing), see an image of the car on the #40 team paint schemes page.(8-9-2015)
Heat a factor with Indy rules package: #18-Kyle Busch continued his hot streak with a win at Indy. Busch and the rest of the field were all full of hot air at the Brickyard. The cars were extremely hot inside the cockpit because the aerodynamic package trapped air inside. Busch was one of many drivers physically drained following Saturday's race, and Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway seemed to have the same consequence. This same rules package is scheduled to be used next month at Michigan. "I got a huge blister on my foot," Logano said. "I think the extended bumper cover on the back of these things doesn't let the airflow underneath the car like it used to without it, and I think it builds the inside temperature up. I've got sweat in my eyes. It's just too hot inside those cars." Teams had their choice to seal openings in the window used for hoses that supply air to the driver. With the window sealed, the car would have the needed downforce for the package used at Indy. The drivers paid for it with a sweaty Sunday. #40-Landon Cassill held his own "science experiment" and weighed himself before and after the race. His pre-race weight was 155.4 pounds. Cassill, who said he consumed 110 ounces of fluids and 1,100 calories, weighed 147.4 pounds after the race. "That's a 10% gross loss of body weight, getting it back to 5% with fluid replacement. I think I'd like to see closer to 3%," he tweeted. He also tweeted: "few more stats from the 110oz of fluids I took in...1,100 Cal, 1,978mg of sodium, 264g Carbs, 572mg Potassium."(Associated Press)(7-27-2015)
Snap Fitness comes aboard to sponsor Cassill at Daytona: Snap Fitness will be the primary sponsor of the #40 Hillman Racing Chevy for Landon Cassill at Daytona for the Coke Zero 400. UPDATE: After making a huge splash during the Coca-Cola 600, Snap Fitness will have its American flag collage filled with thousands of club owners, personal trainers, and members featured on Landon Cassill's #40 Hillman Racing car in the Coke Zero 400. "We are thrilled to have Snap Nation back on Landon's car for this weekend's Fourth of July holiday race," Steele Smiley, Chief Officer responsible for brand strategy, said. "As America's Fitness Brand, it's fantastic that we can show our pride for this country with thousands of people featured on the car as Landon speeds around the race track. He will have Snap Nation supporting him on all sides."
This isn't the only way Snap Fitness is displaying pride for the country this summer. America's Fitness Brand is honoring every-day patriots through its "Snap Serves" campaign. For every 30-day trial pass purchased through Labor Day, Snap Fitness will donate $1 to Folds of Honor, a foundation that provides scholarships to the families of soldiers killed or disabled in active duty. "I couldn't have asked for a better week," said Cassill. "Both mom and son are doing great and I got Katie's (wife) blessing to hop on a plane Friday morning to get behind the wheel of the CRC Brakleen car at Dover."(Hillman Racing)(5-29-2015)
Cassill completes Memorial Day double: Landon Cassill completed a double of his own on racing's busiest day, driving the #40 Snap Fitness Chevrolet in the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, then turning around and jogging through the night to the NASCAR Hall of Fame. That journey of 13.92 miles took 1 hour, 41 minutes and 49 seconds -- a pace of 7 minutes, 19 seconds per mile -- and ended at 12:58 a.m. on Memorial Day. Cassill accepted a hug and kiss from his wife, Kaitlan, rubbed his dog, Indie, and thanked those who came out to watch the end of his run -- a group that included some of his crew members, as well as team owner Mike Hillman. All told, it was a 576.42-mile evening for the 25-year-old driver, who completed 375 laps (out of 400) at Charlotte, then stretched in the garage before starting his run. The event raised money for the Folds of Honor Foundation, through a partnership with Snap Fitness. For every 30-day trial pass purchased between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Snap Fitness will donate $1 to the foundation that provides scholarships to families of service members killed or disabled in active duty.(NASCAR.com)(5-25-2015)

Hillman Racing announces Partnership: Mike Hillman, founder of Hillman Racing and the current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series #40 team, has added West Coast businessman Gordon Smith as co-owner of the newly rebranded Hillman Smith Motorsports, which will continue to field the #40 Chevy for driver Landon Cassill. The addition of Smith as co-owner of HS Motorsports has allowed the organization to expand in the off-season securing additional RCR (Richard Childress Racing) race cars, ECR engines for the entire 2015 Sprint Cup season, as well as adding an in-house, on-site engineering group. Smith, through his aviation and maritime companies, began his involvement with team owner Mike Hillman and the #40 team at the start of the 2014 season.
"Adding Gordon Smith as a partner to the racing organization will only strengthen the foundation we have built over the past three years," Hillman said. "From finishing 12th in last year's Daytona 500 to our best finish of fourth last fall at Talladega with Landon behind the wheel, we have seen great results with limited resources. Gordon has shown a passion for the sport and demonstrated a loyalty to our employees that convinced me elevating him to an equity stakeholder will allow us to take the next step in the Sprint Cup arena. Gordon has built two great companies from the ground up, and by adding a race team to his portfolio, he will truly be covering land, sea and air."
Hillman acquired the championship-winning NASCAR Camping World Truck Series assets following the conclusion of the 2011 season and assumed the dual role of owner and general manager of Hillman Racing at the start of 2012. Midway through the 2013 season, Hillman added the #40 Sprint Cup Series team to the organization with driver Landon Cassill. Throughout his career, Hillman has worked as a crew chief and general manager in each of NASCAR's top three series, including drivers as Tommy Ellis, Dick Trickle, Kyle Petty, Joe Nemechek, Mike Wallace, Robby Gordon, and brothers Brett and Todd Bodine. In 1988, Hillman earned a NASCAR Xfinity Series Championship with driver Tommy Ellis, and secured two Truck Series Championships with driver Todd Bodine in 2006 and 2010.
"This partnership is the culmination of a relationship that started with Landon a few years back," stated Smith. "Landon was driving for Mike Hillman in the Cup Series, so we were introduced and I was immediately welcomed into the fold. I believe the intimate feeling of the organization not only attracts sponsors to the team, but I've watched over the past year as the involvement of each sponsor has grown. Mike Hillman has established a great team that not only puts a good product on the race track, but makes every event an experience that brings people back to the track. I'm looking forward to being involved in the operation and adding to it."
The new partnership kicks off this weekend with qualifying for the 57th annual Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 15. Hillman Smith Motorsports Racing is housed in a 22,000-square-foot facility in Mooresville, N.C., and will field the #40 Chevy in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series competition in 2015 with driver Landon Cassill.(Hillman Smith Motorsports)(2-12-2015)
Snap Fitness renews sponsorship of Hillman Racing: It's full speed ahead for Snap Fitness and Landon Cassill in the 2015 Sprint Cup Series. America's Fitness Brand will again be a primary sponsor for Cassill and his #40 Chevy. "I'm thrilled that our brand will continue working with Landon in 2015," Snap Fitness Founder and CEO Peter Taunton said. "He is a tremendous athlete and leader who is dedicated to working hard in order to reach his goals, which is an attitude we see in our clubs across the country." In 2014, Snap Fitness became the first wellness franchise to partner in NASCAR. "The exposure we garnered last year with NASCAR was astounding. Aligning America's Fitness Brand with one of the most popular sports in the U.S. was a complete triumph and total game-changer," Steele Smiley, chief officer responsible for brand strategy, said. "We are two brands that touch millions of people across the country, so renewing our partnership was a no brainer." This year's sponsorship will go beyond the racetrack. Snap Fitness will support Cassill's triathlon training in hopes of qualifying for the 2015 Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Austria. "I would not be the caliber of athlete I am without Snap Fitness," Cassill said. "The training I've done at Snap Fitness has truly transformed my lifestyle and helped my endurance behind the wheel. Snap Fitness is excited to start the season off in Atlanta as an early season race. Harvey Gulf to sponsor Cassill at Homestead: Hillman Racing announced that Harvey Gulf International Marine, a marine transportation company that specializes in providing offshore supply and multi-purpose support vessels for deepwater operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, will sponsor Landon Cassill and the #40 Chevy at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Sunday's season-ending Ford EcoBoost 400. Founded in 1955 by Captain Numa J. Guidry on the premise that superior performance and safer operations provide its customers value and satisfaction, Harvey Gulf's trademark livery will be the backdrop of Cassill's #40 Harvey Gulf Chevy. "I met Shane Guidry and the folks from Harvey Gulf earlier this season and having them on the car this weekend really adds an exclamation point to our season," said Landon Cassill, the 24-year-old former development driver for Hendrick Motorsports and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native. "Harvey Gulf represents the ninth different primary sponsor that we've had this season and we couldn't have accomplished as much as we did without the help from all of our sponsors. From our 12th-place finish in the season-opening Daytona 500 to our fourth-place finish at Talladega just a few weeks ago, Mike Hillman and the entire organization put forth a tremendous effort to take this team to the next level. With the addition of Harvey Gulf this weekend in Homestead, we were able to secure an ECR engine package and we're looking to finish out the season strong as we continue to build for 2015."(Mike Hillman Racing)
