UPDATE: Max Q Motorsports (MQM) Owner Larry Gunselman announced that MQM and Tommy Baldwin Racing have formed a technical alliance. J.J. Yeley will be the driver of the MQM #37 entry effective immediately. "Max Q has been trying to put itself in position get back into the 'Cup series and be competitive," explained Gunselman. "Tommy and I got to talking and he explained where he want his program to go. He would like to build his program like the Hendrick, RCR and Roush teams by selling cars and engineering to make their program better, and that is something that I been looking to do to get my program to the next level." TBR competed with two teams this season in the NSCS. The team, formed in 2009, also started a NASCAR Nationwide team this season, running a partial schedule. "The only way we are going to get better is to be able to get our product out there more and have different people working on it," Tommy Baldwin said. "I'm confident that with the group of guys Larry is assembling along with J. J. behind the wheel it will benefit both teams."(Tommy Baldwin Racing)(7-20-2012)

  • Yeley and Robinson-Blakeney plans still on to tackle Cup Series: Robinson-Blakeney Racing is also cashing in on politics, as Americans for Israel, two Southern Baptist men simply concerned with keeping the American people in tune with Israel's plight, sponsored the #49 Sprint Cup Series Toyota for the Daytona 500. Unfortunately, Yeley developed motor problems in Thursday's Gatorade Duel and failed to make the race. Yeley says, however, the team plans to go ahead to Phoenix and hopefully the rest of the Cup schedule. "We are obviously going to have to evaluate the engine program," Yeley said after qualifying for the Nationwide Series race Friday. "This team started just a few weeks ago, so we had to jump in with both feet&we are definitely full steam ahead." Yeley says he, the team, and Americans for Israel have meetings and a conference in the next week or two and hopes the organization can sponsor the #49 car for more races or the whole season.(wsbradio.com)(2-26-2012)

  • NASCAR team races for Israel: Two Charlotte men are putting their passion for American-Israeli relations on the hood of a Daytona 500 stock car. The #49 "America Israel Racing" Toyota is owned by Robinson-Blakeney Racing and driven by J.J. Yeley. Friends Rich Shirey and Mark MacCaull said they came up with the idea for America Israel Racing at their daughters' horse show in late 2011. Shirey said they wanted to find a way to educate the public about the relationship between the United States and its Middle Eastern ally. They decided NASCAR seemed the best fit. "NASCAR is the only sport televised where they pray before every race," said MacCaull, who has a background in the sport. "They are aligned with racing, religion and patriotism. We do not want to profit from this. Our goal is simply to educate people." It's an unusual - and expensive - textbook. The friends funded the car for the Daytona 500 completely on their own. A basic full-car sponsorship can come in at around $10 million. "It isn't cheap," said Shirey. "But being brought up Southern Baptist, I was always taught we stand behind Israel. This is a way I felt I could give back to society. It's something I believe in." Both Shirey and MacCaull said they know that belief is controversial to some, but insisted this is not politically motivated. So far, America Israel Racing will serve as the #49 car's predominate sponsor in the Daytona 500 and the following race in Phoenix. The team said it hopes to run the entire schedule, but would need financial assistance to go beyond the first few races.(WCNC.com), see images of the car on my #49 Team Schemes page.(2-9-2012)

  • Yeley to drive for Robinson-Blakeney IMAGES: Newly established Sprint Cup team Robinson-Blakeney Racing has tabbed J.J. Yeley to drive its #49 Toyota for the 2012 season. In addition, Yeley will be reunited with crew chief Tony Furr, who has been hired to coordinate and direct the upstart endeavor. "I am energized and looking forward to working with [owner and manager] Jay Robinson and our team beginning at Daytona in the Duel 150 race and building success all the way to Homestead," said Yeley, who has 11 top-10 finishes in his Cup career. "I have enjoyed a good working relationship in the past with Tony Furr as my crew chief and am happy to be partnered with him again on this team." Furr brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team and has the tools available to formulate a competitive effort at Robinson-Blakeney Racing. "I am excited to again be working with a talented driver like J.J., as well as the rest of the team and owners at Robinson-Blakeney Racing," Furr said. In addition to its first year in Cup, Robinson-Blakeney Racing returns for its 12th season of competition in the Nationwide Series in the #28 car. "We are preparing the team for a very successful 2012 season and we are very pleased to announce our partnerships with Tony and J.J.", Robinson said.(NASCAR.com)(1-25-2012)

  • America Israel Racing Teams with Robinson-Blakeney Racing: North Carolina-based America Israel Racing (AIR) is partnering with a well-respected NASCAR veteran to help bring its message of Israeli support to the track on racing's grandest stage. AIR will team with newly formed Robinson-Blakeney Racing to place a car in the 2012 Daytona 500 field on February 26 at Daytona International Speedway in Florida. Inspired by recent political sentiment towards the nation of Israel, America Israel Racing hopes to raise awareness of the importance of the United States supporting its Middle Eastern ally through NASCAR. "Working with Jay Robinson and the team at Robinson-Blakeney Racing is a tremendous opportunity for America Israel Racing," said a member of the AIR team. "Jay has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the sport and we are very excited to work with him over the coming weeks to get a car ready to run at Daytona, and hopefully beyond." America Israel Racing hopes to continue its partnership with Robinson-Blakeney Racing beyond Daytona, as AIR would like to spread its message of American Israeli support by placing a car in the NASCAR Sprint Cup field for the entire 2012 season. The AIR team hopes all like-minded individuals will take notice and help generate support for their cause.
