  • Bill Elliott unsure of when, or if, he will race again: Bill Elliott [made] his 828th career Sprint Cup start Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway, and whether he runs his 829th race is still to be determined. The 56-year-old Elliott wouldn't call the Coke Zero 400 as his last race but he doesn't have anything else planned at the moment. "Right now, I don't have anything planned," Elliott said Friday after qualifying before laughing when people suggested this would be his last Cup event. "It's the last race for a little while anyway. The way I go this day and time, it could be my last race. I'm always open (to driving). I enjoy the people and having a good time."(Sporting News)(7-8-2012)

  • Turner Motorsports making Cup debut at Daytona with Elliott: This weekend will mark a major milestone for Turner Motorsports, which fields three teams in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and three teams in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The team will make its debut in the Sprint Cup Series with veteran and legend, Bill Elliott. Elliott, who has accumulated 44 series wins over the course of his career, will drive the #50 Walmart Chevy in conjunction with the company's 50th birthday celebration. This will mark Elliott's 828th career NSCS start.(Turner Motorsports)(#50 teams paint schemes page.(7-3-2012)

  • Turner Motorsports announces crew chief for Sprint Cup debut: Turner Motorsports announced that Trent Owens will serve as crew chief of the #50 Walmart Chevy with driver Bill Elliott in the team's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) debut at Daytona International Speedway (DIS) in July. Owens currently calls the shots for Turner Motorsports' #30 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) entry and recently led the team to victory in the 2012 season-opener at DIS. A former driver himself, Owens is a long-time fixture in the NASCAR garage. The Darlington, SC, native served as crew chief for six years for Braun Racing and remained with the organization through its acquisition by Turner Motorsports two years ago. Turner Motorsports' NSCS debut is in conjunction with Walmart's Race Time program, launched last year as the largest retail promotion in NASCAR history. Race Time 2012 gives customers more accessibility to discounted race tickets, driver appearances and fan events at Walmart stores. It also offers a greater selection of authentic NASCAR merchandise available at Walmart stores and www.Walmart.com/NASCAR. The goal for Elliott is to qualify and compete at the Coke Zero 400. He will also visit Walmart stores with his show car before select races. Walmart's sponsorship of the #50 entry at DIS was announced in January as part of its 50th anniversary celebration. "It's exciting to be part of Turner Motorsports' first Cup race with Bill Elliott and support from Walmart," said Owens, who has four NNS wins as a crew chief. "We've come a long way in just the last two years, so to take this step is really going to be a milestone for everyone who works so hard for this team every day." Fans will also get to participate in Elliott's return to the 2.5-mile superspeedway by voting on what driver's suit and helmet he will wear for the race. Three different driver's suit and helmet combinations have been specifically designed for Elliott and fans can vote by visiting www.Walmart.com/NASCAR between March 28and May 14.(Turner Motorsports)(4-16-2012)

  • Bill Elliott to run for NEMCO Motorsports in Daytona 500: NEMCO Motorsports announced that Bill Elliott, past Sprint Cup Champion and Daytona 500 winner, will pilot the #97 Toyota for the Daytona 500 to be held at the Daytona International Speedway. This synergy will bring Front Row Joe, Joe Nemechek and Million Dollar Bill, Bill Elliott together as a powerful pair to kickoff the 2012 NASCAR season. "I am really excited to be racing with NEMCO Motorsports and Joe Nemechek, who has been a friend and respected competitor through the years," said Bill Elliott. "This will be a great way to start off the 2012 NASCAR season in Daytona."
"This is a great and fun moment in racing for us at NEMCO Motorsports," said Joe Nemechek. "We believe the talent and skill of Bill will steer the 97 car to a great showing for us and I am excited to be racing right along with him, this time on the same team."(NEMCO Motorsports)(2-15-2013)

  • Bill Elliott & Walmart team up for Daytona in July UPDATE: Walmart announced Thursday that they will expand their merchandise program in 2012, the 50th anniversary of the retail giant. While the merchandise partnership isn't new, Walmart will take to the track for the first time with a Chevy built by Turner Motorsports and driven by Bill Elliott. However the effort, as of now, is for only one race; the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona in July. The company wanted to get on the track this year with the #50 Chevy and Elliott to help celebrate the 50th birthday of the company in July and just wants to 'have a lot of fun with it', said Rand Waddoups, senior director Entertainment Properties and Brands for Walmart. The company has no shop has hired no personnel and has no plans beyond the single race. 'But we have six months yet', Waddoups added.(NASCAR Examiner), see images of the car on my #50 Team Schemes page.(1-26-2012)
UPDATE: Walmart announced it is expanding its Race Time 2012 program to give fans more accessibility to discounted race tickets, driver appearances and fan events at stores, a greater selection of authentic NASCAR merchandise and a special sponsorship of Bill Elliott at the Coke Zero 400. Walmart's Race Time program, launched last year as the largest retail promotion in NASCAR history, gives fans authentic merchandise and fan events at Walmart stores in every NASCAR Sprint Cup series race market. This year, Walmart has more than tripled the number of companies offering displays of authentic merchandise, doubled the number of fan events at stores and increased the race markets where the $99 Walmart Family Track Pack will be offered. For more about Walmart's Race Time 2012 program and the races the $99 Walmart Family Track Pack will be available at Walmart.com/NASCAR.(Walmart/Mitchell Communications Group)(1-30-2012)
