  • Bono Manion is Annett's new crew chief UPDATE: Kevin "Bono" Manion is the new crew chief for Michael Annett and the #7 Pilot Flying J Chevy at Tommy Baldwin Racing. The 41-year-old Boylston, Mass., native will oversee Annett's rookie season in the Sprint Cup Series. Manion's reunion with Baldwin is the result of a two-decade friendship that developed while the two worked on modifieds in the Northeast. Before the pair moved to North Carolina in fall 1995, Baldwin promised Manion that one day he would own a Cup team. As Manion says, the racers' relationship has "come full circle." When Martin Truex, Jr. left Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after the 2009 season, Manion was assigned to Jamie McMurray's team in 2010. Together, Manion and McMurray won the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 as well as the fall race at Charlotte. Despite winning at Talladega Superspeedway in October, Manion was relieved of his post at season's end.(Fox Sports)(1-22-2014)

With Manion on board, the team seeks to take the program to the next level as team owner, Tommy Baldwin, will have the ability to focus on business and management aspects of the team rather than as both owner and crew chief. Manion is excited to make his move to TBR, the opportunity to work with Michael in his rookie season and a team that is more hands on.(Rising Star Management)(1-22-2014)

  • What's up with Dave Blaney? Dave Blaney understood Tommy Baldwin's need to make a move. So when Michael Annett offered to bring the Pilot Flying J sponsorship to the #7 Chevy, it was an offer Baldwin couldn't refuse. While Blaney understood the addition of Annett would be beneficial to Tommy Baldwin Racing, it came at the expense of his job. "I really don't know what I'm going to do next year," Blaney said. "Obviously, I have no plans at the moment. I would like to run Sprint Cars more. I'd like to be out here with my son (Ryan) a lot. So those are the two things I would for sure like to do. Other than that, we'll see if something comes up here, it's feasible with one of these small teams." When Blaney was asked if he was OK with the fact that Sunday could be his final Cup start, he replied with a laugh, "I guess it doesn't matter if I'm OK with it or not. Honestly, I've done this for a while to kind of support Ryan and Ryan is in good shape where he's on his own here. I'm going to enjoy watching him and being a part of that."
The younger Blaney, who turns 20 next month, signed a development deal with Penske Racing last year after finishing seventh at Richmond International Raceway in his Nationwide Series debut - ironically for Tommy Baldwin Racing. His first win came 14 races later at Kentucky Speedway in the #22 Penske Racing Ford. Ryan Blaney competes for Brad Keselowski Racing full-time in the truck series. He is currently sixth in the point standings. His first win in trucks came at Iowa Speedway in his third start. His second victory came this season at Pocono Raceway in August. It was announced earlier this week that Blaney will continue driving the #29 Cooper Standard Ford for BKR, but his additional NNS races - as well as his Cup debut next year- has yet to be announced.(FoxSports)(11-16-2013)

  • Annett to Tommy Baldwin Racing in 2014, run for Rookie of the Year: Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) has signed driver Michael Annett and partnered with Pilot Flying J for the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. Annett, whose NASCAR career began at Bill Davis Racing under the tutelage of Baldwin, reunites with his mentor after five seasons of competing in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Baldwin will continue as the #7 team's crew chief next season. TBR will field a fleet of Richard Childress Racing cars and utilize Earnhardt-Childress Racing engines. Tommy Baldwin, Owner, Tommy Baldwin Racing: "To have Michael on board for next year, and to have a great partner like Pilot Flying J, is big for our team. Since we went Cup racing about five years ago, we've grown and gotten better with each passing season. This is the next logical step, and I believe there's a lot of potential for Michael to come in and do good things in our racecars."
Michael Annett, Driver, #7 Pilot Flying J Chevrolet SS: "Driving in the Cup Series has been my goal ever since I started racing, and to start this next chapter with Tommy, who is one of the main reasons I made the move to North Carolina in the first place, makes this extra special. I'm looking forward to continuing what we started - winning two races in the ARCA Series and running well in Trucks. Pilot Flying J has been with me just as long, they have been a tremendous partner and I'm honored to represent them on the sport's biggest stage."
Laura Palenkas, Vice President of Marketing and Merchandising, Pilot Flying J: "As a long-standing and proud sponsor of Michael Annett, Pilot Flying J is thrilled that he is moving to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Our partnership with Michael began more than six years ago and we have watched him grow into the successful driver he is today. We are so proud and excited to see him take the next step in his career. Daytona is just around the corner and we can't wait to watch him pull ahead this season."(TBR/Rising Star Management Group)(11-15-2013)

  • SANY America sponsoring Blaney for 14 races: Tommy Baldwin has been gradually building his race team since 2009. He's endured a fledgling economy and has managed to maintain a presence in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Now, he's seeing his patience and hard work pay off. Tommy Baldwin Racing announced that the building continues, as they introduce SANY America to NASCAR as a major sponsorship partner for 2013. With Dave Blaney at the wheel, SANY America will serve as the primary sponsor on the #7 ChevyS for 14 Sprint Cup Series events and associate partner for 22 races, starting with the Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway on March 3rd. The relationship was forged with the help of Al Heinke, owner of Mohawk Construction and co-owner of TBR. Started in 1989 by college roommates, SANY is now the sixth largest industrial equipment company in the world. With global sales of their cranes, concrete pump machinery, excavators, and other heavy-duty equipment, they reported revenues of over $12 billion in 2012.(TBR/140 BUZZ)(1-31-2013)

  • Tommy Baldwin Racing changes car number: Tommy Baldwin Racing is paying homage to its heritage with the announcement that Dave Blaney will drive the #7 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starting at the season-opening Daytona 500. Working on his father's cars is how Baldwin got his start in racing, and ultimately led him into NASCAR's elite series. "It is a very special moment today to announce the number 7 on our Chevrolet SS. The number has been in the Baldwin family for a long time and it is going to be pretty special to carry on that legacy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series." • New spotter at Tommy Baldwin Racing: Doug Campbell, of Berlin, CT, provided the "eyes in the sky" this season as Millis teen Tommy Barrett Jr. tore up the Valenti Modified Racing Series. Along the way, the duo became friends with former NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour team owner Mario Fiore, of Agawam. Using Fiore's many connections in NASCAR, Campbell landed a chance to spot for #37-J.J. Yeley at three Sprint Cup races (New Hampshire, Dover, Charlotte) this past fall. On Thursday, Fiore revealed via Facebook that Campbell, 20, had received a more permanent position. Campbell confirmed that beginning with testing at Daytona International Speedway in January, he will be spotting for Tommy Baldwin Racing, which fielded cars last season for #36-Dave Blaney and #10-David Reutimann.
