Tommy Baldwin Racing Welcomes CULER Aboard: Tommy Baldwin Racing welcomes CULER aboard the #7 Chevrolet at the Coca-Cola 600. CULER space coolers can drop the air temperature as much as 30 degrees. Made in the USA and featuring multi-patented technology, CULER products provide industry-leading effectiveness and efficiency. The home sized space coolers operate on as much energy as a 40-watt lightbulb. This is CULER's first time sponsoring a car in NASCAR, but their products have been involved within the midway at NASCAR events in the past. "It's great to see CULER want to become further involved in NASCAR," said team owner Tommy Baldwin. "Many race fans are familiar with their product from seeing them at the track and now will be able to associate a name with the innovative cooling technology."

Baldwin happy to be back as crew chief: Career back-pedaling appeared to agree with Tommy Baldwin Jr. on Saturday afternoon. Sitting on a director's chair behind his Tommy Baldwin Racing hauler in the infield of Kansas Speedway, Baldwin smiled and even laughed as he talked about his return to the role of crew chief for the evening's SpongeBob SquarePants 400. "It feels good," Baldwin said. "Obviously there are a lot of things going on (within his Sprint Cup team) but I'm really enjoying being back to calling the shots" from the top of the pit box. Baldwin spent a hefty chunk of his racing career on pit boxes. In 2009, Baldwin launched Tommy Baldwin Racing. The team, underfunded by today's standards, has had mixed results over the years but true racers push on and Baldwin is a true racer. Earlier this week, Baldwin lost his crew chief, Kevin "Bono" Manion, who moved to Richard Petty Motorsports to become crew chief for Sam Hornish Jr. Rather than rush out and try to find another veteran crew chief to call the shots for driver #7-Alex Bowman in the SpongeBob SquarePants 400, Baldwin opted to use a veteran crew chief who was already on the payroll; himself. "Like riding a bike," he said of re-mounting the pit box stairs.(NASCAR Wire Service)(5-10-2015)
Manion replaces Blickensderfer as crew chief for Hornish UPDATE: In an effort to further the chemistry of the #9 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race team, Richard Petty Motorsports (RPM) announced Kevin Manion has been assigned as the crew chief of that team with driver Sam Hornish, Jr. Manion will begin his duties immediately and call the race this weekend at Kansas Speedway. Manion, a native of Boylston, Mass., is a championship-winning crew chief and was a part of leading Earnhardt-Ganassi Racing to wins at both the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 in 2010. Manion has five wins in the premier Sprint Cup Series and 15 wins in the NASCAR XFINITY Series. In addition, he has led his race teams to over 60 Top-10 and 25 Top-Five finishes in his Cup career. He also has 10 poles. Having success with different drivers with different racing backgrounds, Manion has led the sports best including Martin Truex, Jr. during his XFINITY and early Sprint Cup Series career. During his time with Truex, Jr., Manion earned two XFINITY Series championships. He then became a trusted leader to Jamie McMurray, leading him to four Sprint Cup Series wins. Manion is a respected crew chief in NASCAR and has the experience to get the #9 team in victory lane. Manion will begin his duties with RPM immedialty. Manion replaces Drew Blickensderfer who has been offered another position within the organization.(RPM)(5-5-2015)
UPDATE: In light of the recent departure of Kevin "Bono" Manion, Tommy Baldwin Racing has announced that team owner Tommy Baldwin will assume the role as crew chief of the #7 Chevy, for driver Alex Bowman. "I'm very happy for Bono; we've been friends a long time, and I wish him nothing but the best," said Baldwin. "Climbing atop the pit box is somewhat of a familiar role for me and I look forward to working with Alex." Baldwin, in his seventh year of a being a Sprint Cup Series team owner, is no stranger to the position - having numerous wins and a Daytona 500 championship in 2002. Baldwin's return will take effect immediately.(TBR)(5-5-2015)
Four teams penalized with loss of practice time at Talladega: #4-Kevin Harvick's team is one of four NASCAR Sprint Cup teams that will lose 15 minutes of practice time this weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, NASCAR announced. Harvick's team, along with #83-Matt DiBenedetto's team will be docked 15 minutes of practice time at Talladega after being late for pre-race inspection last weekend at Richmond. #43-Aric Almirola's team also will lose 15 minutes of practice at Talladega after being late for qualifying inspection at Richmond. #7-Alex Bowman's team failed qualifying inspection more than three times at Richmond. The Tommy Baldwin Racing team received a written warning and will be docked 15 minutes of practice time at Talladega. NASCAR's rule book states that if a team receives two warnings during two consecutive events, it may result in one or more of the following P1 penalties - last choice in selecting pits, reduced practice time, reduced time for qualifying, delay in order of inspection and/or be selected for post-race inspection, among other things. NASCAR also announced that the teams of #98-Josh Wise and #32-Joey Gase (Bobby Labonte will drive the #32 at Talladega) each failed qualifying inspection twice at Richmond and received written warnings.(NBC Sports)(5-1-2015)

BK Racing, Tommy Baldwin Racing considering merger? Chatter in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage this weekend has a potential merger between BK Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing being considered, CATCHFENCE.com has learned. Both teams have struggled thus far at NASCAR's top level this season, but the merger would combine resources, assets and personnel with hopes of lifting the on-track performance of their drivers. Another possible scenario is BK Racing simply acquiring Tommy Baldwin Racing, sources say. Currently, Tommy Baldwin Racing fields the #7 Chevy for Alex Bowman, while BK Racing fields three cars for rookie candidate Jeb Burton, Matt DiBenedetto and veteran JJ Yeley. Bowman drove for BK Racing in 2014, but left the team to join TBR. Sources tell CATCHFENCE.com if the merger happened, it's likely that Baldwin's team would switch to Toyota and Baldwin taking a director of competition role. A spokesperson for RAB Racing, which currently does not field a full-time team, confirmed that they were involved in an initial discussion with BK Racing, but wouldn't elaborate.(Catchfence)(4-26-2015)
Some teams get inspection penalties at Richmond: NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Director Richard Buck sent a memo to teams this week about receiving warnings and penalties if they did not get through inspections in a timely fashion. Tommy Baldwin Racing's #7-team with driver Alex Bowman will be penalized 15 minutes of practice time next week at Talladega Superspeedway for failing to pass pre-qualifying inspection three times. Two Sprint Cup teams received warnings for failing to get through qualifying inspection twice. Those teams were the #98 car of Phil Parsons Racing (driver Josh Wise) and the #32 car of Go Green Racing (Joey Gase). NASCAR also stated that seven Xfinity teams will be penalized 15 minutes of practice next week at Talladega for being late to pre-qualfying inspection. Those cars are the #03 car of Mike Affarano Motorsports (Johanna Long), the #1 car of Roush Fenway Racing (Elliott Sadler), the #4 car of JD Motorsports (Ross Chastain), the #22 car of Team Penske (Joey Logano), the #54 car of Joe Gibbs Racing (Erik Jones), the #62 car of Richard Childress Racing (Brendan Gaughan) and the #97 car of Obaika Racing (Peyton Sellers).(NBC Sports)(4-26-2015)

NASCAR issues inspection penalty UPDATE: NASCAR handed out one inspection penalty Sunday at Phoenix International Raceway, with a second potential penalty under review. #7-Alex Bowman of Tommy Baldwin Racing will lose 15 minutes of practice time in the opening round of practice Friday at Auto Club Speedway. Bowman's car did not make it out of the garage on time Sunday morning at PIR. Also, AJ Allmendinger's #47 JTG Daugherty Racing Chevrolet went through inspection four times and is under review for a possible penalty. A NASCAR official said "other issues" may have been responsible for the car's inspection problems. A decision likely would come on Monday or Tuesday.(FoxSports)(3-15-2015)
UPDATE: NASCAR says no-harm, no-foul on the #47 JTG Daugherty Racing team following pre-race inspection issues at Phoenix International Raceway. On Sunday, the crew made four attempts to pass through the laser platform inspection station prior to the start of Sunday's CampingWorld.com 500. Before the race, a NASCAR representative said the No. 47's situation was "under further review" at the behest of Sprint Cup Series director Richard Buck. It was later determined that the wheel plate that sits inside the wheel bead and measure the toe of the rear, the forward and aft for offset and wheel base and rear end location for the truck arm crossmember was not tight enough to provide an accurate reading. Therefore, the #47 team and AJ Allmendinger will not be penalized practice time this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. NASCAR did confirm however, that the #7 Tommy Baldwin Racing Chevy, which did not line up and get out of the garage in time and the #83 BK Racing Toyota, which did not pass inspection on the second attempt will be held for 15 minutes in first practice on Friday at Fontana.(Motorsport)(3-18-2015)

Baldwin would not confirm on Tuesday that Bowman was joining TBR, but promised the team would have "7 announcements in 7 days" starting on Friday. Baldwin may not run #36 full-time: Tommy Baldwin Racing may not field its familiar #36 Sprint Cup Chevrolet on a full-time basis in 2015, focusing instead on the team's #7 Chevy while forging a new partnership with Jay Robinson Racing to keep the #36 entry on track. Multiple sources tell GodfatherMotorsports.com that negotiations are underway to campaign the #36 under the Jay Robinson Racing banner in 2015, with TBR handling fabrication and preparation for the four restrictor plate races at Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway. That move, if finalized, will result in the layoff of approximately eight TBR employees, all of whom have been invited to apply for positions at JRR's facility on Rolling Hill Road in Mooresville, NC. Baldwin reportedly informed team personnel of the move Monday, saying the deal will be finalized later this week. Baldwin stressed today that he has no plans to sell TBR, and is speaking with a number of parties in an effort to improve the performance of the #36 team. Baldwin has made a total of 321 career Sprint Cup Series starts since becoming a team owner in 2009, with a best finish of third at Talladega in 2011 with driver Dave Blaney. Michael Annett ran the full, 36-race schedule in Baldwin's #7 Pilot/Flying J Chevy last season, finishing 32nd in championship points. He is expected to return in 2015. Bono Manion is Annett's new crew chief UPDATE: Kevin "Bono" Manion is the new crew chief for Michael Annett and the #7 Pilot Flying J Chevy at Tommy Baldwin Racing. The 41-year-old Boylston, Mass., native will oversee Annett's rookie season in the Sprint Cup Series. Manion's reunion with Baldwin is the result of a two-decade friendship that developed while the two worked on modifieds in the Northeast. Before the pair moved to North Carolina in fall 1995, Baldwin promised Manion that one day he would own a Cup team. As Manion says, the racers' relationship has "come full circle." When Martin Truex, Jr. left Earnhardt Ganassi Racing after the 2009 season, Manion was assigned to Jamie McMurray's team in 2010. Together, Manion and McMurray won the Daytona 500 and the Brickyard 400 as well as the fall race at Charlotte. Despite winning at Talladega Superspeedway in October, Manion was relieved of his post at season's end.(Fox Sports)(1-22-2014)
