  • Could the Chevy Malibu return to NASCAR? With Holden winding down its production ventures for 2017, the departure of the rear-wheel drive, 6.2-liter V8 powered Chevrolet SS will soon be upon us. That means the bowtie brand will no longer be interested in promoting it by using it as the body for their NASCAR Sprint Cup cars, so they will have to find a replacement. Lately, Toyota and Ford have used NASCAR to promote their mid-size models, with the two brands running the Camry and Fusion, respectively. Chevrolet will start taking the mid-size segment much more seriously when they pull the veil from the 2016 Malibu in New York next week, so it would make sense if they switched to a new Malibu body for their next Sprint Cup car to help boost sales. Chevrolet's director of car marketing, Steve Majoros, recently told Reuters they are sitting "seventh or eighth place," in the mid-size market and acknowledged they "have tremendous opportunity to grow." The Camry and Fusion are some of the strongest mid-size nameplates around in regards to sales and if Chevy wants to contest them in the showroom, they might as well take it to the track, as well. It wouldn't be the first time the Malibu nameplate appeared in professional stock car racing. The Malibu was Chevrolet's NASCAR body style from 1973 until 1983, when the automaker switched to the more performance oriented Monte Carlo.(GM Authority)(3-28-2015)

  • Chevy SS to go away?: The SS is the first Chevrolet-badged V8 sedan launched in the last 17 years, yet it seems GM (General Motors) is not all that content with it and will not give it a follow-up model. It was confirmed to Motoring, on the sidelines of the SEMA show in Las Vegas, when they asked for information on a possible next rear-driven Holden Commodore (now a rebadged SS). We (almost) know for a fact that the next Commodore will be an Opel Insignia based model (or a rebadged Buick made in China), and therefor fwd-biased and unable to carry a V8 under its bonnet. It will be a very different vehicle to the current Commodore/SS and it will be curious to see what GM replaces it with in the US.(CarSnoops)
AND When reached for comment by Autoblog, Chevy spokesperson Michael Albano said the automaker isn't able to discuss the SS beyond the 2015 model year.(Autoblog)
AND While General Motors Company execs have hinted in the past that the Alpha rear-wheel-drive platform could be used for a successor the SS, one built here in the U.S., a report out of Australia claims there will be no such successor. The news shouldn't come as too much of a surprise as SS sales for the year through October totaled a paltry 2,281 cars, though it should be noted that GM has limited the car's availability. GM also has CAFE regulations to deal with, so renewing a slow-selling V-8 sedan isn't likely to be much of a priority for the automaker.(Motor Authority)
MORE The Chevrolet SS Sedan has a bit of a troubled life. Since it was just revealed for the US market, reinvigorating GM's ability to make a rear-wheel drive sports sedan for North America, despite being an Australian-made GM sedan, the SS's future is already in trouble as GM's global operations plans to shut the doors on Holden, meaning the SS won't have any spare barebones parts from Holden's Commodore line to base its own self on. That said, Australia's Motoring said the next generation SS sedan could follow its roots back to origin by being based on the Impala, to reignite the classic combo of the Impala SS. This could also mean the Impala might go rear-wheel drive in general as the new SS was rumored to be based on the new Alpha platform, the same rear-wheel drive platform as the Cadillac CTS, the ATS, and the future CT6.(egmCarTech)(12-4-2014)

  • Chevrolet Wins NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers' Championship: With the conclusion of the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Chevrolet clinched the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers' Championship. It marks the 12th consecutive year and 38th time overall that the Bowtie Brand has won the prestigious title in NASCAR's premiere series. It is the second Manufacturers' award for the Chevrolet SS race car.
"Winning the Manufacturers' championship is one of the goals we set at the beginning of every season," said Jim Campbell, U.S. Vice President, Performance Vehicles and Motorsports. "This championship is the result of great teamwork by the owners, drivers, crew chiefs, crews and technical partners. Special thanks to the Chevrolet powertrain team, along with the engine shops at Hendrick Motorsports and Earnhardt-Childress Racing for delivering the right combination of power, fuel economy, and reliability throughout the entire season. Congratulations to everyone who has made this special achievement possible for Chevrolet."
In the 2014 season Chevrolet drivers captured 20 victories. Chevrolet won its first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers' award in 1958 and now with the 2014 Cup secured, Chevrolet has reached an unprecedented 38th title. The Team Chevy drivers that have contributed to the manufacturers' points that achieved the title for Chevrolet are: Kevin Harvick (five wins), Dale Earnhardt, Jr. (four wins); Jeff Gordon (four wins), Jimmie Johnson (four wins), AJ Allmendinger (one win), Kurt Busch (one win), Kasey Kahne (one win); along with top finishers Landon Cassill, Kyle Larson, Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart.(Team Chevy)

  • Manufacturers discuss winning the drivers championship and more: In NASCAR's Championship 4, the four drivers competing for the Sprint Cup championship on Sunday, all three manufacturers are represented-Chevrolet, Ford and Toyota-as well as four different engine builders: Hendrick Motorsports (#4-Kevin Harvick), ECR Engines (#31-Ryan Newman), Roush-Yates Engines (#22-Joey Logano) and Toyota Racing Development (#11-Denny Hamlin). In the Homestead-Miami Speedway media center on Saturday, executives representing each of the car makers shared their perspectives on the value of one of their drivers winning the title on Sunday.
Ford's success this season, with 14 victories in 35 Cup races, already has spurred interest in the brand, according to Jamie Allison, director of Ford Racing. "We have generated 570,000 leads yet this year, up 60% from a year ago," Allison said. "We track sales, match to leads generated from on track activation, and our sales are up 90 percent versus a year ago. These are gigantic swings in engagement, gigantic swings in fan affinity, and it translates all the way down from awareness down to conservation to shopping to intention to buy. So success on the track translates into fan consideration and purchase intention. At the end of the day, we are here because of our fans, our fans of Ford, and what we race on the track increasing with relevance to what's being shown in the showroom as well as what's in people's driveway-there's that direct correlation. Whoever said 'Win on Sunday, sell on Monday,' it's absolutely true, because we're seeing it in the evidence of the data that we have."
Jim Campbell, Chevrolet vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports, says the manufacturer starts each season with the same objectives. "For Chevrolet that's one of our goals every year is to help our teams win a driver's championship and collectively giving our teams the best opportunity to win enough races for us to win the manufacturer's championship. We have two opportunities out of the four (on Sunday), and if you look over the past number of years, eight of the last nine driver's champions have been Chevrolet drivers. We do see a lift in opinion, and when you get a lift of opinion on a brand, great things happen. Customers put you on their shopping list more quickly. It's a fact. So that's big."
On Sunday, Hamlin could become the first driver to deliver a championship to Toyota in NASCAR's premier series. "For Toyota, it would simply be historic and unprecedented," said David Wilson, president and general manager of Toyota Racing Development USA. "We're still the new guys, so to speak, in the series. This is our... celebrating our 10th anniversary in NASCAR in their national series. We've won championships, multiple championships in the Camping World Truck Series, in the Nationwide Series. Cup, the Sprint Cup Series, that box hasn't been checked yet, so for Toyota it would be huge. It would be significant, I think, for the sport. It would be huge for TRD. Certainly Toyota, our engagement model is a little bit different than my colleagues', and I have 250 people that work their butts off, and they have for years and years, so it would be very emotional."(NASCAR Wire Service)(11-16-2014)

  • Chevy close to clinching 38th Manufacturers' Title: Chevrolet will clinch this season's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers' Title if its top finishing SS concludes the race 38th or better, giving Chevy its 38th Sprint Cup Series manufacturers' championship. It will be the 12th consecutive manufactures' trophy for Chevrolet and the second for the SS nameplate. Since its debut at the Daytona 500 in February of 2013, the Chevy SS had recorded 35 wins amongst 10 different drivers. Two of those drivers are #4-Kevin Harvick and #31-Ryan Newman, the final two Chevrolet competitors still in the running to earn the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship. Should Harvick or Newman earn this year's trophy, it would be the first championship for either driver; and it would mark Chevrolet's 30th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver's title since 1949. Not only can Chevrolet claim this season's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series manufacturers' championship the brand also has the opportunity to take home it's 16th Bill France Performance Cup, an award that recognizes the manufacturers' champion in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Chevrolet can claim the title if its top finishing Chevy Camaro ends the race 26th or better. In 2014 Chevrolet Camaro drivers have visited Winner's Circle 15 times. Last weekend at Phoenix International Raceway, 18 year-old Camaro driver Chase Elliott clinched Chevrolet's 18th driver's title.(Team Chevy), see the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers' championship rules, standings and stats on's Manufacturers' Standings page.(11-12-2014)

  • Chevrolet Racing Supports "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" Program with Pink Chevy SS Pace Cars: Chevrolet is proud to once again support the American Cancer Society (ACS) "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" (MSABC) campaign with a special pink Chevrolet SS pace car program and breast cancer survivor activities at upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events at Atlanta, Talladega and Martinsville. The goal is to help raise awareness and to increase the more than $3 million that has already been contributed by Chevrolet since 2011. "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" pink Chevrolet SS pace cars will highlight the program at all three NASCAR Sprint Cup Series venues. For every lap a pink Chevrolet SS pace car leads under caution during those three Sprint Cup races, Chevrolet will donate $250 to the American Cancer Society. On each of the three race weekends, Chevrolet will also sponsor at-track survivor events, including special driver appearances, Chevrolet SS pace car rides and more. Now in its fourth year, the 2014 Chevrolet Racing campaign will kick-off at Atlanta Motor Speedway (AMS) during the weekend of August 29-31. Recently, the infield media center at AMS was named in memory of Marcy Scott, the track's late director of marketing and promotion, who lost her personal fight against breast cancer in November 2013. She was a strong proponent and advocate for Chevrolet's MSABC program, and a recipient of the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Spirit Award. The building is now known as the "Marcy Scott Media Center." The specially themed pink Making Strides Chevrolet SS will pace the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia on Sunday August 31, 2014. As part of Chevrolet's continuing contributions to the American Cancer Society's "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" initiative, the Chevy SS will serve as the pace car for upcoming NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in Hampton, Talladega and Martinsville. Chevrolet will donate $250 for every lap a pink Chevrolet SS pace car leads under caution during these three Sprint Cup races.(Team Chevy), see an image of the pink pace car on the 2014 Pace Car page.(8-30-2014)

  • Chevy wins challenge trophy: #48-Jimmie Johnson's victory also ended a three-race streak of Ford-powered cars in victory lane here, the Sprint Cup's closest stop to the headquarters of General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. Alba Colon, Chevrolet's program manager for NASCAR series, was happy to claim the challenge trophy that goes to the manufacturer who wins at Michigan International Speedway. "It's great to have a friendly competition and bring this trophy home to our office," she said. The last Chevy win at Michigan was Earnhardt's victory in June 2012.(NASCAR Wire Service)(6-17-2014)

  • GM Starts Work on New Performance and Racing Center: Last week General Motors began construction of a state-of-the-art facility for race engine design and development, as well as an electric motor laboratory and gear center. GM's continued investment in motorsports comes from the time-tested belief that racing is the ultimate proving ground for much of the technology that applies to the vehicles GM sells. Engineers and technicians from GM's race engineering center in Wixom, Mich. will move to the new facility in mid-2015. The relocation will centralize North American powertrain engineering expertise for production engines as well as advanced and racing propulsion programs. Condensing the engineering to one large space is an excellent way to develop race-bred engineers whether they work on production or performance vehicles. The move will include about 100 employees who work on powertrain racing development, electric motors and in the gear center. The new building is expected to be opened and in use by mid-2015 and completed by early 2016. The GMPRC is part of a $200 million investment GM announced last January to build a new 138,000 sq.-ft. test wing. At that time, the company announced work at four remote locations would consolidate on the Pontiac campus, helping to reduce development timing for GM's next-generation advanced propulsion technologies. When the moves are complete, about 400 jobs will be added to the Pontiac campus. Engineers at the GMPRC will work on powertrain-related projects for GM's involvement in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, NASCAR Nationwide Series, NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, Verizon IndyCar Series, TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, Pirelli World Challenge, NHRA (COPO Camaro Program) and Global Rally Cross.(in part from a GM PR)(5-6-2014)

  • NASCAR considering reducing horsepower to Cup cars next season: NASCAR is planning on making significant engine package changes in 2015 to extend the life of Sprint Cup powerplants and reduce horsepower. And along with engine changes, there likely will be aerodynamic and tire changes for the Cup cars in 2015 as well. That's the word from NASCAR Vice President of Competition and Racing Development Robin Pemberton. Pemberton said the sanctioning body has had four meetings so far with representatives from Chevy, Ford and Toyota and race teams about how to implement those changes. No consensus has been reached yet, according to Pemberton, but discussions are ongoing in advance of making the changes for next year. Although Pemberton declined to specify how many horsepower NASCAR is looking to cut, sources familiar with the discussions said the reduction would be in the neighborhood of 75 to 100 horsepower. Currently, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series engines make about 860-900 horsepower at most tracks. Discussions are still in the early stages, Pemberton said, but given the fact that there are so few engine suppliers now, they will need plenty of lead-time to make changes for next year.
Among the options being discussed are reduction in engine displacement and changes to throttle body size. Sources familiar with the discussions say that Chevy and Toyota are pushing for a reduction to 5.0-liter engines, while the Ford camp is pushing for the use of tapered spacers, such as are used in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series engines. Pemberton said any change in the engine package likely would necessitate other changes as well.
"It's not fully appreciated the fact that we've had the same engine for basically 25 or 30 years and it's at 850 or 860 horsepower, where it used to be 500," Pemberton said. "And we are at the same race tracks where we used to run 160 (miles per hour) we're now qualifying at 190 and running 213 going into the corners. There's been a lot of engineering and gains made across the board. Goodyear ... we have the same tire patch as when we started.(FoxSports)(3-23-2014)

  • Chevrolet SS to Pace 56th Daytona 500: Chevrolet unveiled the trio of vehicles that will pace NASCAR's opening round of events at Daytona International Speedway this weekend.

"Chevrolet is proud to be a part of NASCAR's season-opening events by pacing all of the races at Daytona International Speedway," said Jeff Chew, Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Racing. "This will mark Chevrolet's 11th time pacing the Daytona 500, and we are privileged to continue this heritage and our partnership with Daytona International Speedway again this year." The 2014 Chevrolet SS is the first rear-wheel drive performance sedan for Chevrolet since 1996. The Chevrolet SS is equipped with a 6.2L V-8 engine and is rated at SAE-certified 415 hp (310 kW), with paddle-shift six-speed automatic transmission. The 2014 Camaro SS 1LE was built for the track, and is characterized by performance. Under the hood is a 6.2 V-8 with 426 hp, and the eye-catching model is easily recognized with its unique graphics and multiple color options. The 2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab is all new hood to hitch. The all new Silverado 1500 Crew Cab comes equipped with the Max Towing Package, which offers trailering ratings of up to 12,000 pounds, which is more than any light-duty pickup currently on the market. Earlier this week, Chevrolet debuted its redesigned 2014 Silverado race truck in the Fan Zone and on the track at Daytona International Speedway. This season in NASCAR competition, Chevrolet is campaigning the Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Camaro in the NASCAR Nationwide Series, and Silverado in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. The Silverado pace truck will lead the field on Friday February 21. The Camaro SS 1LE will pace on Saturday February 22. The Chevrolet SS will guide the field for the 56th running of the Daytona 500 on Sunday February 23.(Team Chevy)(2-21-2014)

  • NASCAR pace car catches on fire during Sprint Unlimited UPDATE: With a full moon shining high above Daytona International Speedway, one of the most bizarre scenes in recent memory took place. As the field bunched up for the final 20-lap segment of the NASCAR Sprint Unlimited, smoke began billowing from one of the cars. No, not one of the race cars, it was the pace car. Pace car driver Brett Bodine pulled off the track as the trunk of the Chevrolet SS caught fire. Luckily, safety crews were quick on the scene to extinguish the fire. Come to find out, it was a battery pack used to power external lights that ignited the fire.(FoxSports)(2-16-2014)
Statement from Chevrolet: During the closing laps of the NASCAR Sprint Unlimited race, the pace car experienced a fire in the trunk area, which contains a purpose-built auxiliary electrical kit to operate the numerous caution lights during the race. The pace car driver and passenger safely exited the vehicle. An assessment is underway.(Team Chevy)(2-18-2014)

  • 2014 Chevrolet SS passenger sedan available: The 2014 Chevrolet SS [which started running in NASCAR Sprint Cup in 2013] has been a long time coming-nearly two decades, in fact. It is the first rear-wheel-drive sedan powered by a V8 engine that Chevy has offered since it discontinued the Impala in 1996, which was antiquated even back then. "So what?" you might say. "Aren't large cars with large engines becoming obsolete?" Maybe, but there was a time when all Chevrolets were made like the 2014 SS. And although this new sport sedan will be sold only in small numbers-General Motors execs aren't saying how many, but it likely won't be much more than 5,000 a year, based on sales of similar vehicles like the Dodge Charger SRT8-it is poised to have a far greater impact on GM's corporate image.(full story and Q&A at

  • Chevy can clinch Manufacturers' Championship UPDATE: Chevy can clinch its 11th consecutive NSCS Manufacturers' Championship, and 37th overall, this weekend at Martinsville. If Chevy's top finishing driver finishes ahead of Toyota's top finishing driver, Chevy will clinch the title in the first year of the Gen-6 race car.(NASCAR)(10-24-2013)
UPDATE: Jeff Gordon's win of the Goody's Headache Relief Shot 500 at Martinsville Speedway captured the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Manufacturers' Cup Championship for Chevy. It marks the 11th consecutive year, and the 37th time overall that the Bowtie Brand has captured the prestigious title in NASCAR's premiere series. It is also the first Manufacturers' Cup award for the Gen-6 Chevrolet SS race car. In the 33 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races run to-date in 2013, Chevy drivers have captured 14 victories. Chevrolet won its first Manufacturers' Cup award in 1958; and now with the 2013 Cup secured, Chevy has reached an unprecedented 37th title. The Team Chevy drivers that have contributed to the manufacturers' points that achieved the title for Chevy are: #48-Jimmie Johnson (five wins); #29-Kevin Harvick (three wins), #5-Kasey Kahne (two wins), #14-Tony Stewart (one win); #39-Ryan Newman (one win), #1-Jamie McMurray (one win), #24-Jeff Gordon (one win); #88-Dale Earnhardt Jr., #31-Jeff Burton, #42-Juan Pablo Montoya, and #78-Kurt Busch.(Chevy PR), For standings, rules, and manufacturers wins see the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Manufacturer Standings page.(10-27-2013)

  • Chevy may have left NASCAR without Gen 6 car: Chevrolet may have pulled out of NASCAR had the governing body not developed the new "Gen 6" car that returns brand identity to the sport. "It would have been a good chance," team owner Rick Hendrick said on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway. "As a matter of fact, I'm sure they might have." Hendrick, the owner of Hendrick Motorsports and one of the top owners of automobile dealerships in the United States, made the comment during the unveiling of the 2014 Chevrolet SS production car that will debut in NASCAR this season.(ESPN)(2-17-2013)

  • Chevrolet Will Set the Pace at Daytona: The 2014 Chevrolet SS will be very busy during its Speedweeks debut, pacing all four NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races - The Sprint Unlimited, both Budweiser Duels and the Daytona 500. And, it will be one of Chevrolet's three newest models to pace NASCAR's races at Daytona International Speedway next weekend:
2014 Chevrolet SS in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
2013 Camaro ZL1 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Drive4COPD 300
2014 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series NextEra Energy 250
"Chevrolet is extremely proud to be a part of NASCAR's season-opener by pacing all of the events at Daytona International Speedway," said Jeff Chew, Marketing Manager for Chevrolet Racing. "In 2013, Chevrolet will launch 13 all-new or significantly redesigned products in North America. Included in those models is the Chevrolet SS, which race fans will get a chance to see on track when it paces The Sprint Unlimited tonight, the Budweiser Duels next Thursday, and the Daytona 500 next Sunday."
The 2014 Chevrolet SS is the first rear-wheel drive performance sedan for Chevrolet since 1996.
The 2013 Camaro ZL1 brings supercar levels of performance and technology to the sports-car segment, featuring a 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 that produces 580 horsepower, and can go from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds.

  • 2014 Chevrolet SS unveiled UPDATE: Chevrolet is scheduled to hold a press conference to unveil the 2014 Chevrolet SS passenger vehicle on Saturday around 1:00pm/et at the Fan Zone at Daytona International Speedway.(2-16-2013)
UPDATE: As Chevrolet's first V-8, rear-wheel-drive performance sedan since 1996, the new Chevrolet SS is designed to deliver performance on the street and on the track. The 2014 Chevrolet SS will debut this weekend at the Daytona International Speedway as the SS racecar makes its NASCAR debut during the Daytona 500. "The Chevrolet brand was largely built on the strength of rear-drive performance sedans, yet it's been 17 years since we've offered one," said Mark Reuss, president of General Motors North America. "The all-new Chevrolet SS fills that void and fills it better than any other vehicle in the brand's rich history. The comfort, convenience, spaciousness and V-8 power make the SS a total performance package unlike any other on the road today." The Chevrolet SS benefits from the proven, race-tested, global rear-wheel drive architecture that is the foundation for the Camaro, Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle and Holden's VF Commodore.
The Chevrolet SS is powered by the LS3 Chevrolet V-8, expected to deliver 415 horsepower and 415 lb-ft of torque. Also used in the 2013 Chevrolet Corvette, the LS3 displaces 6.2 liters, more than the 5.5-liter V-8 powering the Chevrolet SS NASCAR competitors. The LS3 is married to a six-speed automatic transmission, which can be shifted manually using TAPshift paddles mounted on the steering wheel. With an aggressive 3.27 final-drive ratio, the Chevrolet SS accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in about five seconds - making it one of the quickest sedans on the market.
To ensure that it turns and stops as well as it accelerates; the Chevrolet SS also features a sport-tuned chassis, including:
MacPherson strut front and multilink independent rear suspension geometry
Electronic power steering system, optimized for sport driving
Standard Brembo brakes, with ventilated, 355-mm rotors and two-piece, four-piston front calipers
Forged aluminum wheels, wrapped in ultra-high-performance Bridgestone tires: 19 x 8.5 inch wheels with 245/40ZR19 tires in front; 19 x 9.0 inch wheels with 275/35ZR19 tires rear
Handling is also improved by a near 50/50 weight distribution, and a low center of gravity - made possible in part by the aluminum hood and rear deck lid that are 30 percent lighter than traditional steel panels. "Our goal was to create a car that delivers incredible grip and handling balance while cornering, while still being comfortable to drive on the road," said David Leone, executive chief engineer GM global programs. "The perfect weight balance and lower center of gravity were a big part of that goal because it enabled the team to tune for a more comfortable highway ride without sacrificing handling or driver confidence while cornering at the limits."
Similarly, the design of the SS blends performance cues and premium details. "From every angle, the Chevrolet SS says power and performance," said John Cafaro design director Chevrolet passenger cars and small crossovers. "The combination of an aggressive rear-wheel drive stance and body-side attitude with the right balance of detail and refinement inside and out are the perfect home for Chevrolet's V-8 performance package."
The staggered front and rear wheels, which are pushed out to the corners, enhance the sporting, muscular stance of the SS. Up front, the aluminum hood features a subtle "power bulge" hinting at the power of the engine underneath. At the rear, the tapered, tear-drop shape contributes to improved aerodynamic performance. Premium cues include jewel-like chrome accents, standard high-intensity discharge headlamps and light-emitting diode daytime running lights.
The spacious interior of the SS will comfortably accommodate five adults, with 42 inches of front legroom, and 39 inches of rear legroom. Leather seating surfaces are standard, as are eight-way power adjustable front bucket seats with additional side bolstering that hug the driver and front passenger in tight-handling situations. The SS emblem is prominently stitched onto the soft-touch instrument panel which features two types of chrome finishes - a satin gloss and a bright chrome. At night, the interior is illuminated by ice blue ambient lighting.
An integrated center stack includes infotainment, climate and other vehicle controls. The Chevrolet SS also offers a long list of technology features as standard equipment including:
Color, in-dashboard touch screen that supports Chevrolet MyLink and the next-generation navigation system
    Bose Nine-speaker premium sound system
    Color heads-up display
    Push-button start
    StabiliTrak Electronic Stability Control
    Forward Collision Alert
    Lane Departure Warning
    Side Blind Zone Alert
Rear-vision camera Rear Cross Traffic Alert
The SS is also the first Chevrolet to offer Automatic Parking Assist, which provides hands-free parking help. This efficient 'hands-free' parking assistant uses the ultrasonic sensing system to detect the width and depth of either parallel or reverse right-angle parking spaces. While the driver controls the throttle, transmission, and brake, the Automatic Parking Assist controls the steering inputs necessary to neatly park the Chevrolet SS.
The 2014 Chevrolet SS will be available in the fourth quarter of 2013, with prices set closer to the on-sale date. When it arrives in showrooms, the SS will join the Corvette and Camaro, whose combined sales have made Chevrolet America's favorite performance brand for the last two years.(Team Chevy)(2-16-2013)
