Swan Racing to Honor Victims of Boston Marathon: #30-Swan Racing will honor the victims of the Boston Marathon with a special "Prayers for Boston" paint scheme in this weekend's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. "The tragedy at the Boston Marathon is shared by all Americans," said Swan Racing owner Brandon Davis. "Swan Racing and the NASCAR community offer its support to the Boston community, the victims and all those affected by the senseless act of terror." Davis' wife Tara, a Boston native, said, "Boston is a strong, united community and will not be intimidated. I am pleased that we are able to use our race team to support my hometown with a 'Prayers for Boston' message."
Driver of the #30 "Prayers for Boston" Toyota, David Stremme, said, "The NASCAR community rallies together in times of need. Hopefully, we can help add a little comfort with our message of 'Prayers for Boston' on the car." Earlier this year Swan Racing honored the victims of the Newtown tragedy with a special paint scheme and by changing the car number from 30 to 26 in honor of the 26 victims at Sandy Hook Elementary School.(Swan Racing), see an image of the car on the #30 Team Schemes page.(4-20-2013)
Swan Racing makes personnel changes: Swan Racing announced that Tony Eury Jr. has been named competition director for the team, replacing Steve Hmeil. Steven "Bones" Lane has been named crew chief for the #30 Toyota driven by David Stremme. Hmeil was relieved of his duties. This move reunites Lane and Stremme as crew chief and driver combination. Lane was Stremme's crew chief from 2011 2012. The two also worked together in 2006 2007 and for one race in 2008. "We made changes in the front office today that we believe will have a long term benefits for the team going forward," said Swan Racing owner Brandon Davis. "I want to thank Steve Hmeil for his service, we wish him all the best in his future endeavors." Eury said, "This team is committed to making progress every week. I'm excited for this opportunity. I think having 'Bones' on top of the box is a great move and will help improve our overall effort."(Swan Racing)(4-6-2013)
Stremme returns to the seat at Phoenix: Swan Racing returns this week to the #30 Toyota driven by David Stremme at Phoenix International Raceway. Last week in Daytona, Swan Racing dedicated its efforts on raising donations and awareness for the Newtown, Ct community by running the #26 Sandy Hook Memorial Fund Toyota driven by Michael Waltrip. Stremme will compete on behalf of Swan Racing the rest of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season in the #30 where he will race hard every lap of every race. This is significant given that Stremme was ordered to "start and park" in past seasons. That was until new owner Brandon Davis stepped in late last year creating Swan Racing. "Swan Racing is here to race hard every lap of every race," said Davis. "We are going to build a championship contender over time and we'll do it by competing against the best drivers in the world, not by packing up early."
"It's a new day for the #30 Toyota and we'll be mixing it up all season," said Stremme. "Drivers are competitive by nature. We feel the need to compete in everything we do. I will get the most out of this Toyota all season starting at Phoenix International Raceway." Stremme and Swan Racing represent an "old school" approach to racing which means they are stretching every dollar to put the car on track each week. "This is old school racing here at Swan. We all pitch in to build the cars at the shop each week and race hard on the weekends," Stremme said.
Swan Racing had a busy offseason building a strong foundation for the team's success. Several key hires were made that signal Swan Racing's commitment. They include Steve Hmiel as competition director, Tony Eury Jr., as crew chief. Rocky Ryan will serve as Stremme's spotter. Swan has attracted sponsorship from Nutrition53, a health supplement, company which will feature it's Lean1 product on the car as a primary sponsor for ten races beginning at Texas Motor Speedway and as an associate sponsor the remainder of the season. The pit crew for the #30 is branded Lean1 all season.(Swan Racing), see an image of the scheme for Phoenix on the #30 Team Schemes page.(3-1-2013)
Swan Racing Signs Widow Wax as Associate Sponsor: Swan Racing announced that the maker of Widow Wax, a car wax company will be an associate sponsor for the remainder of the 2013 season on the #30 Swan Racing Toyota. The company will also donate 10% of its net proceeds through August to the Sandy Hook Memorial Fund. "Swan Racing is really going all out to make its mark in NASCAR and Widow Wax is proud to be part of this team in 2013," said Widow Wax owner Justin Kuhn. "We are so proud to join the team this very special week in which Swan Racing is raising awareness and money for the people of Newtown, CT. Widow Wax will be donating 10% of all net proceeds to the Sandy Hook Memorial Fund," said Kuhn.
"Adding Widow Wax to our team provides Swan Racing more resources in which to compete every lap of every race this season," said Swan Racing owner Brandon Davis. "Justin and his team at Widow Wax wasted no time becoming part of our team by supporting the efforts of the Sandy Hook Memorial Support Fund. That is a special and inspiring commitment." Swan Racing will be competing in the Daytona 500, Sunday February 24 in a special number and paint scheme. The No. 30 Swan Racing Toyota will be featured as the #26 Sandy Hook Memorial Fund Toyota driven by Michael Waltrip. The #26 honors the 20 children and six adults that lost their lives last December. Following the Daytona 500 the car number will return to the 30 driven by David Stremme.(Swan Racing)(2-24-2013
NASCAR, Swan Racing and Waltrip to Pay Tribute to Newtown, CT, Community UPDATE: Using the biggest race of the year as a backdrop, NASCAR, Swan Racing and two-time Daytona 500 champion Michael Waltrip announced today a special tribute to raise awareness and contributions for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. Following a private meeting with town officials, community leaders, first responders and victims' families last week in Newtown, Conn., NASCAR, Swan Racing and Waltrip announced that the #30 Lean1 Swan Racing Toyota will instead garner the #26 Sandy Hook School Support Fund Toyota. Waltrip's ride for the Daytona 500 will honor the 26 victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School and prominently feature a call-to-action decal encouraging the NASCAR community to make $10 donations by texting NEWTOWN to 80888.
The Sandy Hook School Support Fund, established jointly by United Way of Western Connecticut and Newtown Savings Bank, supports the healing process for the broader Newtown community including children, teachers, first responders, families, residents, mental health professionals, counselors and others, following the tragic events that occurred at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December. One hundred percent of the funds raised for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund go to meet the needs of the Newtown community. In addition to piloting the #26 Newtown car in the Great American Race, Waltrip confirmed today that all three Michael Waltrip Racing entries will run the "text NEWTOWN to 80888" decal for the Daytona 500. NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France also announced today that he and his wife Amy would personally kick off the NASCAR industry support with a $50,000 donation that will be matched by The NASCAR Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit that embodies the compassion of the NASCAR family and its commitment to serving communities. Donations can also be made online at newtown.uwwesternct.org or by mail to: Sandy Hook School Support Fund, c/o Newtown Savings Bank, 39 Main Street, Newtown, CT, 06470.(MWR/NASCAR), see images of the scheme on the #30/26 team schemes page.(2-14-2013)

Romanowski's health supplement company, Nutrition53, also signed on as a team sponsor and will be the primary sponsor for ten races on the #30 Toyota driven by David Stremme. Nutrition53 will have an associate sponsor position on the car for the other 26 races. Romanowski started in an astounding 243 consecutive games highlighted by 5 Super Bowl appearances as a linebacker and was selected twice to the Pro Bowl. He played for the San Francisco 49ers, 1988-1993; Philadelphia Eagles, 1994-1995; Denver Broncos, 1996-2001; and Oakland Raiders, 2002-2003. Romanowski is founder and CEO of Nutrition53, which markets a line of supplemental health drinks and vitamins developed by a team of doctors, scientists and nutritionists to help with weight loss, energy, mental performance and sleep. Nutition53 will be featured on the #30 Toyota as the primary sponsor for 10 Sprint Cup races in 2013, which include: Texas (April 13), Charlotte (May 26 and October 12), Pocono (June 9 and August 4), Sonoma (June 23), Daytona (July 6), New Hampshire (July 14 and September 22), and Atlanta (September 1).(Swan Racing)(1-31-2013)
2013 silly season notes for #30-David Stremme / Swan Racing: Many changes for this team. The team was sold to Brandon Davis who formed Swan Racing. The purchase of Inception Motorsports occurred in October 2012. David Stremme will be the primary driver of the #30 Swan Energy Toyota. Michael Waltrip will drive the car in the Daytona 500. Stremme opted out of the road courses in 2012 but attempted to run all the oval tracks. The team made some big moves, hiring competition director Steve Hmiel and Tony Eury Jr. as the crew chief. The team also has an engine package with Triad Racing Technologies. Swan Energy will be the primary sponsor on the #30 Toyota with the team talking to additional sponsors. See more about other teams on my 2013 Team / Driver Silly Season Chart.(1-18-2013)
Waltrip to drive the #30 in Daytona 500: Michael Waltrip, a two-time Daytona 500 champion, will pilot Swan Racing's #30 Toyota in the 2013 "Great American Race," reuniting him with former crew chief Tony Eury Jr. The race marks Swan Racing's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series debut since announcing its new ownership this month. "I am thrilled to drive the #30 Toyota for Swan Racing and the chance to win a third Daytona 500," said Waltrip about the one-race deal. "Reuniting with Tony Jr. and Steve Hmiel brings back a lot of good memories and is going to create new ones."
"Swan Racing is here to compete and to build a championship contender," said Swan Racing owner Brandon Davis who has vowed to end the practice of habitual "start and parks" for the team. "This one-race partnership with Michael puts a two-time champion behind the wheel and the #30 in the mix at the Daytona 500."
"This is a great move for Swan Racing," said David Stremme who will be the regular driver of the #30 Toyota. "Michael and I have been friends for a long time. We got to talking last year and from my perspective I thought this would help to further our relationship with Toyota and be a good building block for Swan Racing."
Swan Racing is building its team from the ground up by hiring veterans of the sport who share a common long-term vision for success. Steve Hmiel, named competition director last week, has over 35 years of experience as a crew chief, car chief and competition director. Tony Eury Jr. will be the crew chief for the #30 Toyota. "Michael is a familiar face for a lot of us here at Swan Racing," said Eury. "We know each other's habits, wants and needs on the track. We're going to Daytona to compete and hopefully we'll make a mark for Swan Racing."(Swan Racing)(1-10-2013)
Eury Jr. named Stremme's crew chief UPDATE: Tony Eury Jr. will be the crew chief for Swan Racing's #30 Toyota driven by David Stremme for the 2013 season. The move comes just days after the new team, owned by Brandon Davis, was formally announced. "We have a long-term vision for Swan Racing and the addition of Tony Jr. is another step in that process. Tony brings a world of experience to Swan Racing and will be part of our long-term success," said Davis. "I am really impressed with the team Swan Racing is building and I am proud to be part of it," said Eury. "I am looking forward to working with David Stremme behind the wheel and with competition director Steve Hmiel."
"Tony Jr. has pretty much done it all from tire changer to crew chief. His experience and knowledge will be pivotal to the success of Swan Racing," said competition director Steve Hmiel. Driver of the #30 Toyota, David Stremme said, "The team has transformed itself virtually overnight. It's hard to believe just how different this team is in such a short period of time. This is how you build success from the ground up; you hire quality people, put their experience to work and execute on race day. Lets go racing." Swan Racing is located in Mooresville, N.C., and will get its horsepower from Triad Racing Technologies.(Swan Racing / Tuckahoe Strategies)(12-10-2012)
UPDATE: Tony Eury Jr. admits that he enjoyed his three-month break from the NASCAR garage. He worked on building a barn and went hunting. He also admits that he was happy to see his former JR Motorsports team a piece of which he still owns win the season-ending Nationwide Series race at Homestead last month. Now it's time for him to get back to work. Still a 25% owner of JR Motorsports, Eury was released from his position as crew chief for Danica Patrick a couple of weeks after his father, Tony Eury Sr., was released as the team's competition director in September. The organization, run by Earnhardt's sister Kelley Earnhardt-Miller, shifted directions, hiring Ryan Pemberton as competition director and committing to use more resources from Hendrick Motorsports Rick Hendrick also is a co-owner of the team than it had with the Eurys. It was time for Eury, who had two Cup wins as a crew chief with Earnhardt at Dale Earnhardt Inc. and Hendrick Motorsports, to move on. "We've texted back and forth," Eury said about his relationship with his cousin. "There's no hard feelings. Everything is good with that whole situation. It was just good timing for a change to get away from each other. We've been racing together for 16 or 17 years. & Both of us are doing what we enjoy and decided what we were going to do when we were youngsters. David is an old-school racer and Steve called me and both of them were asking me to come over here and help them take a small deal and step it up into a big deal," Eury said. "It's just a challenge. That's kind of where I'm at in my career right now."(more at the Sporting News)(12-11-2012)

Hmiel is a veteran of the NASCAR garage area with over 35 years of experience as a crew chief, car chief and competition director. Swan Racing is located in Mooresville, N.C., and will get its horsepower from Triad Racing Technologies, a top engine builder. Swan Energy will be the primary sponsor on the #30 Toyota. Stremme gets sponsor for Daytona 500: Squarely in the Daytona 500 field, David Stremme and Inception Motorsports now have a partner. JEGS.com, the leader in delivering high performance parts, announced it will sponsor Stremme's #30 Toyota in the Great American Race at famed Daytona International Speedway. The sponsorship is an extension of Stremme's relationship with JEGS through Cody Coughlin, grandson of JEGS founder Jeg Coughlin Sr. Cody, 16, is racing late model stock cars, and the veteran Stremme is helping the younger Coughlin work through the short-track ranks. "I like Cody," Stremme said. "I met his mom (Di) and dad (John) at the Snowball Derby and we hit it off. Cody is very well-rounded, and he's got great teachers in Gary St. Amant and Butch VanDoorn. Gary helped me a lot in my career, and we've already seen what Butch can do with Cody during this year's Speedweeks with a couple of poles and some top-five finishes at the 46th World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing. I'm also trying to help Cody in any way I can." Stremme made it in the Daytona 500 field via last Sunday's qualifying, turning a lap of 191.963 mph. He'll start the race from the 42nd position, flying JEGS.com colors. "We have a really good shot at running well," Stremme said. "We're kind of underdogs in a way (but) we were able to out-qualify some really big teams. We had to have a different agenda leading up to the 500 than other teams but come Sunday, I think we'll be able to show how hard my team has worked and hopefully get a really good result to start the season off."(TeamJegs PR)(2-24-2012)

Stremme leaves #26 team: UPDATE: David Stremme has quit his ride with Latitude 43 Motorsports, alleging that team owner Bill Jenkins has failed to meet his financial obligations and is doing little to help the team improve. We've been trying to put that program together," said Stremme. "We always had to do more with less, but in the last month and a half, ownership hasn't really wanted to make things better. Bill Jenkins has not been willing to make the correct decisions, and it has affected the performance of the team. We've barely been making it to track the last few weeks. At Pocono, we didn't even know if we were going to have tires to race on. "I went to Bill and said `If things aren't going to change, I don't think I want to stay involved.' We discussed a timeline for him to find another driver and agreed that we would look at things again after Bristol. But he immediately started calling around trying to replace me. He apparently wanted to find someone else right now, and that's fine. It's his choice." Jenkins admitted his first-year team has struggled to find sponsorship this season, saying, "We are in a funding fight every day, and we haven't been able to fund the team at the level David expected. We've had some good things happen, and some bad things. We had to pull a sponsor off the car two weeks ago (GTW GPS) after a conflict emerged between their products and Sprint. We were counting on them to help get us over the hump, but those are the bumps in the road that you hit." Last week, former Latitude 43 Motorsports driver Boris Said revealed that he is unhappy with the way he was treated by Jenkins. "There's no real polite way to say this, but Bill Jenkins owes me a bunch of money," he said. Asked if he expects to have any relationship with the team going forward, Said replied, "(Jenkins) hasn't returned my phone calls, so I guess not. It's a bad deal for me." Asked if he is owed money by Latitude 43, Stremme said, "There are obligations to both me and the team that have not been met, and that was a big part of my decision to leave. I don't want to be involved with something like that. I dealt with (Jenkins) with respect, and was straightforward with him at all times. I didn't get that in return."(Sirius Speedway)(8-10-2010)
