Chris Buescher to 2nd JTG Daughtery team? UPDATE 2: Greg Biffle's decision to leave Roush-Fenway Racing on Monday triggered a strange chain reaction that will include the slumping racing company loaning driver Chris Buescher to a rival manufacturer next season. Buescher will drive for a newly-created second Chevrolet team at JTG Daughtery Racing in 2017. Roush Fenway is expected to scuttle Biffle's #16 team, and that could make that team's charter available to the highest bidder - including the new JTG Daughtery entry. Despite fielding full-time teams for Biffle, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and Trevor Bayne, Roush Fenway hasn't won a race since 2014. By loaning Buescher to JTG Daugherty next year, Ford Racing will be able to work on upgrades with Roush Fenway while keeping one of its young drivers under contract. "It was a mutual agreement," Biffle said. "It's been frustrating for everyone. I've been the one carrying the company banner. It just didn't get any better. I didn't see a light at the end of the tunnel, so I decided I'd rather do something else - even if it means not driving anymore. I owe Jack everything I've accomplished in this sport. Some things just run their course." Roush said Biffle was one of the anchors of his entire race team. UPDATE 2: Roush Fenway Racing Announces 2017 NASCAR Cup Plans: Roush Fenway Racing has announced its 2017 plans for the NASCAR Cup Series that will see the organization field a two-car Cup operation next season, with drivers Trevor Bayne and Ricky Stenhouse Jr. piloting the #6 and #17 Ford Fusions, respectively, in NASCAR's highest series. In addition, Kevin Kidd and Tommy Wheeler will lead Roush Fenway's overall competition efforts going forward. Kidd will assume the role of Competition Director, and Wheeler will serve as the team's Operations Director. The team will lease its #16 NASCAR Charter and driver Chris Buescher to JTG Racing in 2017. "We have been able to shore up our plans for 2017 and we feel that this will continue to move us in a direction that will yield improved performance and results," said Roush Fenway co-owner Jack Roush. "We saw improvement in our cars and made substantial gains in our performance at times last season, and we will continue to build on that by maintaining a robust engineering group in order to take the next step by consistently running up front."
The #6 team will once again be led by veteran crew chief Matt Puccia. Brian Pattie, who was the crew chief for the #16 Cup Series team last season, will transition to crew chief of the #17 team. Nick Sandler, who served as the #17 crew chief the last two seasons, has been named Director of Engineering. Robbie Reiser, who has played an integral role on the competition side at Roush Fenway Racing for a number of years, will remain with the organization in a yet to be determined position. Kidd has served as Roush Fenway's Cup Team Manager - supervising all at-track operations - for the previous two seasons, after coming over from Joe Gibbs Racing where he worked as a crew chief for the previous half decade. He holds a mechanical engineering degree from Virginia Tech, and has worked as a lead engineer for multiple teams and drivers. Wheeler, who holds a B.S. in physics from Davidson College, joined Roush Fenway in 2009. A 20-plus year veteran of the sport, he has served in many capacities for the team, including as the team's production director since 2011, overseeing the building and production of all of the organization's Cup and XFINITY Series cars. Biffle ready for a change? UPDATE4 leaves Roush: After re-signing with RFR in 2014, Biffle hasn't sniffed the Chase for the Sprint Cup in the last two seasons. He thought 2016 might be the year. With a new crew chief in Brian Pattie, a lower-downforce aero package from the sanctioning body and a renewed effort at Roush, things appeared to line up for NASCAR's elder statesman. And now, he's 24th in the standings with just one top-five finish, at Loudon. So when Biffle said his most recent contract might be his last, it's understandable. "Well, if I talk to you Sunday after the race in here, maybe that will be some inspiration," Biffle said in the media center where the winner is interviewed following the race. "I want to be competitive in races and run in the top 10. That's my goal and my focus. If I'm not doing that, then I am probably going to do something different." Biffle has been rumored to be leaving Roush Fenway Racing at the end of the season. Although he owns the building that headquarters HScott Motorsports in North Carolina, Biffle said he has not discussed racing for Harry Scott after Clint Bowyer leaves in November. Biffle has heard the rumors that he'll end up and Front Row Motorsports - a technical partner - but given his loyalty to Roush over his career, that's unlikely to be something he'd consider. UPDATE 2: When motorsport.com reached out to JTGD team owner Tad Geschickter via text on Monday, he replied, "We are weighing the pros and cons of starting a second team as we speak." Geschickter expects to stay the course with RCR after their contract expires at the end of the year. Although the Wood Brothers have shared a shop with JTGD since the end of the 2005 season, the #21 team is transitioning to a new home in Mooresville. UPDATE 3: Tad Geschickter, co-owner of JTG Daugherty racing, says it is "certainly a possibility' his team may expand to two cars in 2017, adding "the economics" of charter acquisition will play into a decision, which they may "have that done next week." Geschickter made the comments on SiriusXM Speedway on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. "That's a big decision," Geschickter said. "Certainly we're weighing out all the options right now. It's no secret that we have to figure out are there are charters available and their cost, are there drivers available, what do they cost and certainly we ultimately have to report back to the sponsors and pull the trigger. UPDATE 4: Greg Biffle, who has spent the last 14 seasons driving a Sprint Cup car for Roush Fenway Racing, has left the organization after a frustrating season where he finished 23rd in the standings, the team confirmed. Biffle had one year left on his Roush Fenway contract, but the organization does not have sponsorship for him for next year. The organization has not made a decision whether to field the #16 car in 2017; the team has a charter for that car, so it either must run the car, lease the charter or sell it..(ESPN)
AND Roush Fenway Racing and driver Greg Biffle have parted ways after the conclusion of the 2016 NASCAR season. Biffle, the organization's longest-tenured driver, drove the #16 Sprint Cup Series entry since 2002. He joined Roush Fenway in 1998, and worked his way up through the NASCAR ranks, winning championships in the Truck and XFINITY Series' and finishing runner up in the Sprint Cup Series. "We've had an incredible run and I am so appreciative for the opportunity to be a part of Roush Fenway," said Biffle. "For a kid that grew up Washington, I'm extremely proud of everything we have been able to accomplish over the last 19 years - both on and off the track. I've enjoyed every minute. I'm excited about the next chapter of my life, and I look forward to exploring other opportunities - particularly in radio and television - both inside and outside of NASCAR. I'm thankful to Jack Roush for the opportunity to have driven his race cars for all these years. It's very rare in this sport to have been able to stay with one team this many years, and to have been as successful as we have been."
The Vancouver, Washington native, who was first recommended to Jack Roush by the late Hall-of-Famer Benny Parsons, brought Roush Fenway its first two NASCAR championships in 2000 (Trucks) and 2002 (XFINITY). He came up just 35 points short of being the only driver to win a championship in all three major series with his runner-up finish in the 2005 season, when he led the series with six victories and led more than 1,300 laps.

Drivers treated after Martinsville race: Following the Goody's Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway, Sprint Cup drivers #95-Michael McDowell, #47-AJ Allmendinger and #46-Michael Annett were treated in the infield care center for various ailments.
McDowell, driver of Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing's #95, was treated for dehydration and burns on his feet. McDowell had to be taken to the medical center on a stretcher. McDowell entered the race having dealt with pneumonia and strep throat according to NBC Sports' Mike Massaro.
Allmendinger, driver of the #47 Chevrolet for JTG-Daugherty Racing, was treated for overheating but was quickly released from the medical center.
HScott Motorsports' Annett was treated for carbon monoxide poisoning a team spokesman told NBC Sports. Damage to the left-rear of Annett's #46 car caused fumes to enter the car. (NBC Sports)(10-31-2016)

Allmendinger not happy with himself over spinning Larson: If it hadn't been for the final corner of the final lap on Sunday at Watkins Glen, #47-AJ Allmendinger would have enjoyed a proud moment, battling back from an early pit road speeding penalty for a top-five finish. But the afternoon ended on a sour note when a tap from Allmendinger's Chevy sent Kyle Larson's #42-Chevy spinning into the inside barrier as the drivers were battling in Turn 7 on the last lap. Allmendinger finished fourth, but Larson dropped to 29th, with his Chase hopes taking a serious blow. "I turned him - not on purpose," a rueful Allmendinger said after the race. "The #78 (Martin Truex Jr.) started to spin, and Kyle and I were racing for fifth there. He defended on the inside, which he should have. And I tried to cut under him off of the last corner, and the #78 was coming back across the race track. I was under him. He turned. And I just clipped him. I'm just not very happy with myself on that. I don't want to do that, especially for fourth place. And he did a great job. It's on me. I never meant to do it. It's not going to help the case. I know he's going to be pissed off, and he should be pissed off. I'd be. I definitely cost us a chance to win this race (with the speeding penalty). I tried to give everything I had to get it back. I was going to be pretty happy with the drive back - until I did that in the last corner."
As Allmendinger predicted, the accident didn't sit well with Larson. "We were about a 10th-place car, and we were going to get a top-five day out of it," Larson said. "We were running sixth coming to (Turn) 7; the #47 was behind me. He is always aggressive. I figured he would be smart. Obviously, the #78 was spinning in front of us. That is a free spot for both of us, and (he) just dumped me. He had already ran me down to the front stretch wall once with about 15 (laps) to go or so. Pretty dumb move right there, too, but I was the smarter one racing for points, lifted, could have wrecked him, but didn't. I don't know. I don't know. He wrecked me earlier in the year at Vegas. He has ran me hard, but we always race pretty well, but today was flat out stupid. I love his crew chief (Randall Burnett) to death; he was our engineer last year. A.J. Allmendinger's thumb OK after Kentucky wreck: A.J. Allmendinger's left thumb is OK after a heavy impact at Kentucky Speedway, but his JTG Daugherty Racing team slightly will scale back its schedule this week. A team spokesperson said Allmendinger's #47 Chevrolet won't be at a Tuesday-Wednesday test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway because the team will be regrouping to focus on building cars after a rough stretch. Allmendinger has crashed in two of the past four races and hasn't finished in the top 10 in two months. He finished 36th in Saturday's Quaker State 400 after being caught in two wrecks, the second of which resulted in his left hand and wrist being wrapped during a visit to the track's care center. Fill in crew chiefs for Pocono: Following the suspension of three Sprint Cup crew chiefs following the Charlotte race, two of the teams have named their replacements:
Ernie Cope will fill in for Randall Burnett as crew chief for the #47 team of A.J. Allmendinger. Burnett is serving a one race suspension.
Stewart-Haas Racing engineer John Klausmeier will serve as crew chief for #41-Kurt Busch while Tony Gibson serves his one race suspension.

JTG Daugherty lauches "47 Wishes": JTG Daugherty Racing always looks for ways to give back to the community. In recent months, team owners Jodi & Tad Geschickter and their racing organization launched 47 Wishes, which empowers the #47 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race team to bring forth ideas to assist individuals or families in the community. 47 Wishes can range from something small to something big.
"47 Wishes is a wonderful way for us to give back," JTG Daugherty Racing operations manager Mark Kelso said. "We granted our first wish to one of our team members by helping a family he heard about that needed help." On September 15, 2015, members of the JTG Daugherty Racing family learned of a one-year-old little girl named Emily Hinton from north Charlotte. Emily had been severely burned when a gas can exploded at her family home while she was playing in the backyard. The incident was so serious that Emily was placed in a medically induced coma and was on life support. Little Emily suffered third-degree burns over nearly 60 percent of her body. Eight months later, her road to recovery has been long and she has fought through difficult surgeries and months-long hospital stays. Emily still has a challenging road ahead of her and medical bills are mounting. The team was able to provide some small relief, but it's tiny in comparison to what the community and churches have done to help. Allmendinger's Darlington throwback scheme revealed: AJ Allmendinger and JTG Daugherty Racing's family of brands revealed their Darlington Raceway Bojangles' Southern 500 throwback paint scheme, raced by Topeka, Kan.-native Bruce Hill in the 1970s (1974-1977). The throwback #47 Kroger/Kingsford Chevrolet SS maintains its continuity with the red, white and blue theme.
"It is an honor quite honestly," Bruce Hill said. "Being remembered for something is always an honor especially as big as the sport has gotten. I thought it was kind of neat when they decided to do the throwback schemes at Darlington Raceway. I had good memories of Darlington. It was a track that you either loved or hated and that probably hasn't changed over the years. I loved the track because it was slick and I ran better on a slick racetrack because it was all about getting your car to handle. I always loved Darlington and you always love a track you have good luck at. I think my second top-five finish came at Darlington. Hill raced in NASCAR's premiere series for seven seasons, meeting Darlington Raceway's requirement for paint schemes to fall somewhere into the 1975-84 era. His first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (formerly NASCAR Winston Cup) start was November 24th 1974 at Ontario Motor Speedway (Ontario, Calif.) where he finished 13th in what would be his only race that year in the division. However, Hill's presence became known in 1975 when he recorded three top-five and 11 top-10 finishes earning Rookie of the Year honors and finishing 16th in the driver points standings after completing 26 events. Hill, who was born July 9th, 1949, competed in a total of 100 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races, led nine laps, posted three top-five and 21 top-10 finishes. He also competed in ARCA and the NASCAR West Series during his racing career and was the 1967 International Kart Federation (IKF) national champion. Atlanta Post-Event Penalties announced: NASCAR released the Post-Event Penalty & Warning Report from Atlanta on Wednesday, among the penalties announced:
#78 Furniture Row Racing crew chief Cole Pearn has been fined $50,000, suspended from the next NSCS championship event [Las Vegas] and remains on NASCAR probation through Dec. 31; team has been assessed with the loss of 15 championship owner and 15 championship driver [Martin Truex Jr.] points for a roof flap violation at Atlanta.
#78 Team Statement: The following statement is attributed to Joe Garone, president of Furniture Row Racing. "Due to the severity of the P3 penalty levied against Furniture Row Racing and its crew chief Cole Pearn today (Wednesday), the #78 Sprint Cup team has informed NASCAR it will appeal the decision. The infraction, which was immediately corrected following technical inspection at Atlanta Motor Speedway last week, was safety related and not competition related. We sincerely appreciate that NASCAR has an appeal process so we can review the level of the penalty. The one-race suspension to Cole Pearn and monetary fine are temporarily deferred until the conclusion of the appeal hearing (FRR).

Allmendinger: "No. The moment Justin Wilson passed away I said 'Never again.' The only way I would do it is if they put in a closed cockpit over the car and tested it and they thought that was a good direction in safety then I might think about doing it again."

Allmendinger: "But it's a different situation in the fact that IndyCar is just like Formula One. The basis of Indy car racing is open cockpit. Stuff like that has always been more at risk to happen. But every form of racing is doing the job to make it safer. NASCAR continually works on the racetracks and inside the cars. The direction with all the testing that they're doing that they showed in the safety meeting is progress. Will you ever get to the day when you strap in a race car and say, 'Ah, there's no chance of something really bad happening?' Well, no. That's a part of racing that will always be there, but the best thing we can do is make it as safe as possible. It is way safer than it was 15 years ago. It's getting better. #47 Chevy to pay tribute to the late Bernie Stowe: A.J. Allmendinger's #47 Kroger Chevy will have a sticker on it at Daytona that reads, "In Loving Memory of Bernie Stowe." Bernie Stowe, the longtime clubhouse manager for the Cincinnati Reds, died on Tuesday. He was 80 years old. Stowe began his career with the Reds in 1947 as a clubhouse boy and continued to work for the team through the 2013 season. Allmendinger wants to run Le Mans: AJ Allmendinger, whose full-time job is wheeling the #47 Chevy in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, co-drove the #60 Honda Ligier Prototype in the Rolex 24 At Daytona Saturday and Sunday. Allmendinger has been doing the sports-car thing for more than 10 years with IMSA team owner Michael Shank. Michael Shank Racing won the 2012 Rolex 24 with Allmendinger behind the wheel of the Prototype at the checkered flag. Allmendinger can compete the 24-hour race because it starts before the NASCAR season begins. There is no conflict with his NASCAR schedule. The one race on Allmendinger's bucket list is the 24 Hours of Le Mans in France. The 34-year-old driver may get his chance this year. "If AJ can find a way to get to Le Mans, we'll make it work from our end," Shank told NASCAR This Week. "He has been with me many years. I would love to see it happen. It sounds fun to talk about it, but the reality is, AJ has a lot of (NASCAR) sponsor programs built around him." The Le Mans 24 program will be staged on a NASCAR Cup Series off week, June 14-18. JTG Daugherty Racing makes crew chief change UPDATE: Sources say Randall Burnett will oversee the #47 JTG/Daugherty team next season. He replaces crew chief Brian Burns, who will remain with the team. Burnett joined Ganassi Racing in 2005 after he graduated from UNC Charlotte with a degree in mechanical engineering. The 35-year-old St. Louis native - and former Late Model racer - most recently worked as the team engineer on the #42 Target Chevy under crew chief Chris Heroy. Burnett will join Ernie Cope, who spent the last season as crew chief for Chase Elliott at JR Motorsports. Cope will be JTGD's new competition director starting Dec. 1.(Motorsport)(11-24-2015)
UPDATE: JTG Daugherty Racing welcomes two exceptional leaders with the recent addition of Ernie Cope as Director of Competition and Randall Burnett as Crew Chief of the #47 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series entry driven by AJ Allmendinger. Cope returns home to JTG Daugherty Racing, transitioning from JR Motorsports where he was crew chief for 2014 NASCAR Xfinity Series champion Chase Elliott. In 2015, Elliott collected one win, 11 top-five and 27 top-10 finishes and finished runner-up in the championship standings with Cope at the helm. Before Cope's time at JR Motorsports, his journey included six seasons working with Kevin Harvick Inc. (KHI) and Richard Childress Racing (RCR). He racked up nine victories in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS), including eight with Harvick. During his tenure at KHI in the NXS, he also led teams to 79 top-five and 120 top-10 finishes. Over 13 seasons, Cope earned 15 victories in the NXS and nine in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series.
Burnett was hand selected by Allmendinger and JTG Daugherty Racing team officials to lead the team as they vie for a coveted spot in the 2016 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chase for the championship. Burnett has been a racer all his life whether it was building and racing his own cars on a local level or holding a leadership role as a team lead engineer in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He joins JTG Daugherty Racing after a 10-year stint at Chip Ganassi Racing. 2014 was a big year for Burnett as rookie Kyle Larson landed the #42 ride. With an inexperienced NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver, Burnett helped the team earn eight top-five finishes and 17 top-10 finishes and came close to victory several times. Ernie Cope to JTG Daugherty: Ernie Cope will leave JR Motorsports at the end of the season. Cope, who is currently the crew chief for defending Xfinity Series champion Chase Elliott, will join JTG Daugherty Racing as Competition Director. Cope has worked with a variety of teams as a crew chief over the last 13 seasons and earned 15 wins in the NXS and nine in the Camping World Truck Series. He worked for JTG team owner Tad Geschickter in what is now the XFINITY Series with Stacy Compton in 2006 and Marcos Ambrose in 2007. The 46-year-old Tacoma, Wash. native started his racing career behind the wheel. Allmendinger agrees to five year deal with JTG Daugherty: Today during a NASCAR media availability at Kansas Speedway, AJ Allmendinger revealed to media members that he has signed an extension to his driver agreement with JTG Daugherty Racing that will make him the driver of the #47 Chevy SS for at least through the 2020 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race season. "I have always said I have a verbal lifetime contract with JTG Daugherty Racing, but I want to announce today that I have officially signed a contract for a five year deal," Allmendinger said. Brad Daugherty launches Hoops Against Hunger: A busy Wednesday for Brad Daugherty included a brief talk at the Southern Conference Basketball meetings at the Biltmore Estate, launching a charitable campaign against hunger with a goal of raising $1 million, and sharing the news that he is returning to TV as a basketball analyst. The first pick of the 1986 NBA Draft is also pumped up about his Brad Daugherty Foundation, working with Eblen Charities and the SoCon for Hoops Against Hunger, a program that will provide meals for students who don't get enough to eat at home during extended holiday breaks from school. The plan is to bring together public, private and sports organizations to help fight hunger, including basketball teams that will raise food and donations during their seasons and bring them to the SoCon Basketball Championships in March 2015, to be held in Asheville for a fourth straight season. Daugherty, who helped give away more than 10,000 meals last Thanksgiving in WNC, said his goal is to reach out to contacts in basketball and NASCAR and raise $1 million for Hoops Against Hunger.(PR)(10-17-2014)

Allmendinger won the Cheez-It 355 Sprint Cup Series race at Watkins Glen International on August 10, 2014, it was the first time since March 16, 1986 that a driver had won a Sprint Cup Series race in a car #47. Morgan Shepherd won at Atlanta in a Jack Beebe owned Buick crew chiefed by Jake Elder. The car #47 has 25 Sprint Cup Series wins in its history. JTG Daugherty forms technical alliance with RCR: JTG Daugherty Racing team officials announced a technical alliance with Richard Childress Racing that will include receiving ECR Engines and engineering services during the 2014 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season with driver AJ Allmendinger behind the wheel of the #47 entry. "We certainly appreciate all the support that TRD (Toyota Racing Development) has provided to JTG Daugherty Racing for five years and we are great fans of their business model," JTG Daugherty Racing co-owner Tad Geschickter said.
