Rick Hendrick Tony Eury Jr. Hendrick
Yates agrees to sell #88 to Hendrick, so the team will change from #25 to #88 for 2008. Looks like the trademark thing was a smokescreen. Mears goes over to the #5 car, with Dale Jr. and Tony Jr. come over from the DEI #8 team. Former #25 Crew chief Darian Grubb will move to more of a management role. Looks like Mountain Dew and Amp will be the co-primary sponsors to be announced later in Sept. Hendrick applied for trademarks with the US Patent & Trademark Office for five numbers -- 81, 82, 51, 58 and 38, so one of those could be it. All are available except the #38 which would have to be ok'd by NASCAR and given up by RYR which runs the car with Gilliland or they could keep the #25. Will not bring Budweiser with him. DEI and Hendrick could not work out a deal for Earnhardt Jr. to keep the #8, so DEI keeps it and Dale Jr. will have a new car number in 2008
