- Sullivan hired by Alan Taylor Communications: Alan Taylor Communications (ATC) announced that veteran motorsports publicist Tim Sullivan has joined the Agency and will establish ATC’s presence in Charlotte, NC. Sullivan has led publicity efforts for Bobby Labonte and Joe Gibbs Racing’s #18 Interstate Batteries team in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series the last four years, including Labonte’s Winston Cup championship season in 2000. Prior to that Sullivan spent several years at NASCAR handling a number of competition PR responsibilities in the Winston Cup and Busch circuits. In total, Sullivan adds over 13 years of motorsports public relations experience to the ATC team at a time when the Agency is experiencing unprecedented growth in the category.
Sullivan has opened ATC’s Charlotte office and will support the Agency’s current motorsports client partners including NASCAR, Gillette, Warner Bros., Smirnoff Ice, Best Western and others. He will also work closely with the company’s senior managers to identify and
develop new opportunities in the motorsports, lifestyle, consumer products and sports and fitness categories.
"Joining a top-ranked firm like Alan Taylor Communications is a very exciting opportunity for me and a big milestone in my career,” said
Sullivan. “Having watched the Agency’s NASCAR project team over the last three years, I can see why they are able to forge long-standing client relationships with some of the biggest companies in America. I’m thrilled to be a part of that. I’m excited to share my experience in motorsports with ATC’s existing clientele, as well as helping create new opportunities for the company as we work to build the Charlotte office.”(ATC PR)(1-13-2004)
- Logic Marketing and Consulting Launched: Ryan Kurek has launched LOGIC Marketing + Consulting, a motorsports focused marketing and management agency (www.logicmc.com). Kurek was responsible for creating Rockwell Automation's NASCAR sponsorship, marketing, hospitality and promotional programs. After five years at Rockwell, he was contracted by two successful NASCAR enterprises to assist in their sponsorship and marketing strategies before establishing LOGIC in 2003.
"It is obvious that the leveraging methods proposed to sponsors have become antiquated and unoriginal", explained Kurek. "That was the catalyst for LOGIC. I wanted to offer sponsors an agency that could creatively deliver their message, while providing clarity and a meaningful return on investment."
Kurek will also provide team consulting, with a unique focus on sponsors that are falling short of their ROI expectations. "If a sponsor is not successful, there is a strong chance they will leave that race team or the sport altogether. Our objective would be to maximize their investment. The end result to all strategies would keep sponsorships on board for the long term so that the team can focus on positive planning and performance."
For more information or to hear how it can work for you contact Ryan Kurek at ryan@logicmc.com or 803.802.8765.(PR)(12-17-2003)
- Legal Firm, Sports Marketing Agency Team Up For Motorsports Sponsorships: One of the country’s most established, yet fastest-growing legal firms, has teamed with one of the country’s top sports marketing agencies for a new extensive involvement in motorsports. enkins, Jenkins & Jenkins, P.A., headquartered in La Plata, is planning on sponsorships of stock car racing teams in 2004. The firm will work with Williams Company of America, Inc, a Mooresville, N.C.-based agency that is considered the leader in motorsports public relations. “Like other companies, our firm is looking towards motorsports to help as we expand our business and help our clients,” said Frank P. Jenkins, who owns the highly-respected firm with his father, Louis P. Jenkins, Sr., who started the firm over 40 years ago, and his brother, Louis P. Jenkins, Jr. “Our firm’s focus is aimed solely at satisfying our clients’ various needs,” he said. Jenkins, Jenkins & Jenkins specializes in personal injury, all real estate matter, criminal, traffic and corporate law. “Jenkins, Jenkins & Jenkins has some exciting announcements to make in the near future about its involvement with motorsports, and specifically NASCAR racing,” said Williams Company president Richard N. (Chip) Williams. “No law firm has ever attempted the involvement they are preparing to announce, and we are very excited to be working with them.”(Williams Company PR)(11-24-2003)

(HOST) is expanding its sports and event marketing initiatives to include a major emphasis on motorsports, Gordon Whitener, chief executive officer, announced Monday. HOST will focus on selling sponsorships for NASCAR teams and tracks, managed events, including mobile marketing units, consulting and printing and publishing opportunities. HOST currently is involved with NASCAR. The HOST Managed Events Division for the past three years has administered the SONY Tech Pit Tour, which is a 26-stop, interactive, electronic game and product showcase that is displayed at major NASCAR tracks and preferred SONY retail outlets throughout the nation. A replica of NASCAR driver Ryan Newman's car is featured as a part of his representation agreement with SONY.(Hawk Sports Management)(8-12-2003)
- New website developed to bring sponsorship to unsponsored race teams: www.SponsorUs.net is proud to announce the debut of their new site that has been opened to assist teams with bringing sponsorship to their teams. This program is completely free for all involved and is available to any auto racing team in any series. "I am very excited about the opening of this website and hope that the program is successful in bringing sponsorship to teams," says Josh; SponsorUs.net's owner/webmaster. Racing has become very expensive even in the smaller series and it is hard to run a team without some sponsorship. Here is how the program works:
Race teams join the SponsorUs.net program via their website. Teams will then be sent www.SponsorUs.net decals of their size choice, to fit the section of the car the teams chooses, to run on their cars during races to get the site well recognized. They have decals for every part of the car; from the hood right down to the posts. Even if your race team has some existing sponsorship, you may run the logos in other locations to fill those spots as well. The site address, SponsorUs.net, will also be very eye catching and will bring about curiosity from the viewers about what the website is. That will also bring viewers to the site. After teams have joined, a profile for each team will be added quickly to the teams page on the site. These profiles will contain any information about the team or pictures that the teams would like to have on the profile. When potential sponsors see the logos on the cars in the races, they can then log onto the website and request to be contacted by the team that they are interested in sponsoring. We even have a part for the fans. The fans can log onto the website and can donate to teams, chat with other fans, purchase SponsorUs.net merchandise, and much more. SponsorUs.net has already had three teams join and will have more coming soon.(PR)(6-11-2003)
- Vice President of Marketing for Stacker 2, Karen Finocchio, resigns; starts own business:
The Vice President of Marketing for Stacker 2, Karen Finocchio has resigned from NVE Pharmaceuticals the manufacturer of Stacker 2 to pursue a business of her own as a one stop media shop. Karen Finocchio, was the person behind building NVE pharmaceuticals brand Stacker 2 "The Worlds Strongest Fat Burner" with a highly targeted media plan. "Negotiating, buying and placing media time were a big part of my responsibilities. But writing and producing all those crazy Stacker 2 commercials was what I really loved" Finocchio explains. Finocchio who is experienced in writing and producing television and radio commercials uses a film team from Los Angles. "We've done a lot of our commercial shooting at the Charlotte tracks, Lowes as well as Concord and everyone has been great."
She loves to expose the lighter side of the drivers as well as give fans a glimpse of a driver taken out of his element. "I've worked with some of the greatest drivers/personalities in NASCAR and they have all been fabulous. I have to rank the NASCAR drivers I've worked with right up there with my friends, the superstars of the WWE." "I am very excited about starting my own company. I'd like to help other companies maximize their media exposure as well as represent a couple of NASCAR drivers. I'd love to help NASCAR drivers secure personal service contracts." explains Finocchio. NASCAR drivers agree to personal service contracts to earn additional money and start new sponsor relationships. Through personal service contracts with drivers, companies can negotiate a deal with a driver that may place the company or product logo on their sleeve. They may also contract the driver to make a company sponsored personal appearance and or appear in a commercial for the company or product. Truth is this also benefits NASCAR and team owners by exposing potential sponsors.
"It's a fact that the personality of a driver can spike sales for products and companies. Not only have I experienced that first hand with the drivers I have worked with but look what Dale Earnhardt Jr. has done for the sale of Drakkar cologne." Finocchio says. Finocchio has mentioned that she would also like to represent a team by helping them cultivate and build new client relationships.
A well orchestrated media plan can enable prospective clients to understand and experience the power of NASCAR and the value of sponsorship. Through her media experience with buying, scheduling, writing and producing commercials she can help new sponsors get the most "bang" for their buck. She is now contacting companies that might like to "test the NASCAR waters". This can give new prospective sponsors the benefits, thrills, advantages and big audience exposure that sponsoring a NASCAR driver can produce, before they make a million dollar commitment to a team.
"If I've learned one thing about this or any other business is it's all about building relationships. You have to build on what you learn. Treat people like you want to be treated, keep an open mind and don't fear moving ahead." Karen Finocchio can be contacted at KLFinocchio@comcast.net or by phone at 908-565-0612.
