Waltrip returns to the #55 at 'Dega: #55 Aaron’s Dream Machine driver Michael Waltrip returns to the drivers seat at Talladega Superspeedway Sunday in the Aaron’s 499 NASCAR Sprint Cup race. The two-time Daytona 500 champion’s #55 will carry a special paint scheme honoring the 2012 University of Alabama’s BCS National Championship football team. Waltrip will sport an Alabama firesuit and a specially painted helmet similar to the school’s football helmet. Waltrip, winner of the Talladega fall race in 2003, nearly won the October race before a last lap wreck. Waltrip celebrated his 50th birthday on Tuesday. Aaron’s unveiled the #55 paint scheme in front of 78,000 fans at University of Alabama's spring football game on April 20. Coach Nick Saban signed the hood. This is the fourth consecutive Talladega spring race Aaron’s Inc. and MWR have honored a national championship football team from the state of Alabama. STP colors returns to #43; The King to be grand marshal: Aric Almirola and the #43 STP Ford team will be sporting classic Petty Blue and STP colors in the STP 400 Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. Team owner Richard Petty, a long-time partner of STP, will be the Grand Marshall for the STP 400. He will give his drivers Almirola and Marcos Ambrose, as well as the rest of the Sprint Cup Series field, the command to start their engines on Sunday. Farmland Foods will present a cash and protein donation to Harvesters-The Community Food Network at the Kansas Speedway as part of an expanding effort by the company to raise awareness of hunger issues around the country. Cassill joins #33 Circle Sport team: Circle Sport, LLC, announced that Landon Cassill will drive the #33 Circle Sport entry beginning this weekend at Phoenix International Raceway. Cassill, the 23-year-old former development driver for Hendrick Motorsports, will pilot the #33 Moon Shine Wildfire Camo Chevrolet SS in Sunday?s Subway Fresh Fit 500 [also the same scheme at Las Vegas]. Cassill enters the weekend event with 84 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts to his credit, in addition to 33 NASCAR Nationwide Series and eight NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts. Special scheme for Johnson in the Sprint Unlimited: For the 2013 season, #48-Jimmie Johnson’s 12th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the five-time champion once again climbs behind the wheel of the #48 Lowe’s and Kobalt Tools Chevrolets. The primary paint scheme for the year mimics last year’s sleek, two-color schemes, which marked the first major redesign of the primary paint scheme for the #48 car since Lowe’s began its relationship with Johnson. The schemes are a tribute to the American muscle car, including several that will feature some of Chevrolet’s classic colors at select races throughout the year. The first of these combinations debuts at the opening race of the season, the Sprint Unlimited.
