TESTING NOTES: what you see posted here is all I know about testing
I do not know of any other sites that have testing news or I'd post the link
Some teams test and there is no report on it, some tracks do not release speeds
How many tests can each team have?
2005
As far as I know, the same rules as in 2004:
Each team (consisting of a car #) are allowed five two-day private-car tests and four single-day tests (14 total days).
A team with a rookie driver (#'s 5,23?,36,77) are permitted seven two-day tests and five single-day tests (19 total days) at a Cup track.
Teams can test unlimted amount at non Cup tracks such as:
Kentucky Speedway, Greensville-Pickens Speedway, USA Intl Speedway in Lakeland FL, Nashville Superspeedway
Texas World Speedway, Virginia Intl Raceway, plus proving grounds such as General Motors facility in Mesa, AZ, Ford's in Yucca, AZ and Dodge uses Chrysler's Chelsea Proving Grounds in Michigan.
ALL teams get charged a two-day test date for the Daytona 500.
West Coast Testing at California/Las Vegas in Jan/Feb will count as one two-day test.
AND - For new Cup and Busch teams or those not among the top 45 in the 2003 owner points and/or in the top 45 in the current season’s owner points will receive one two-day test and one single-day test (total of three days) until they attempt to qualify for a race. Each time a qualification attempt is made, teams will receive an additional two-day/single-day allotment, up to the maximum amount.
- NASCAR Announces 2005 Preseason Thunder Dates: The 2005 NASCAR Preseason Thunder test schedule at Daytona International Speedway will kick off with the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, which, along with its usual newsworthiness, also will enjoy the distinction of being the first event housed at the Speedway’s newly renovated infield and garages. Leading off next season’s edition of NASCAR Preseason Thunder will be the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams that finished in odd-number positions in the final 2004 car owner point standings. They will begin testing Tuesday, Jan. 11 and conclude Thursday, Jan. 13. The rain date is Friday, Jan. 14. All NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series teams will test Saturday, Jan. 15 and Sunday, Jan. 16. The rain date is Monday, Jan. 17.
All NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series teams that finished in even-number positions in the final 2004 car owner point standings will be on track Tuesday, Jan. 18 through Thursday, Jan. 20. The rain date is Friday, Jan. 21.
All NASCAR Busch Series teams will be on track Saturday, Jan. 22 through Monday, Jan. 24. The rain date is Tuesday, Jan. 25.
Fans, too, have their chance to participate in NASCAR Preseason Thunder. The Speedway’s Oldfield Tower grandstands, located just outside Daytona USA, will open free of charge to fans to watch the NASCAR preseason action. Also, four Fan Fests – whose proceeds will benefit the Speedway and NASCAR-designated charities – are scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 12, Saturday, Jan. 15, Wednesday, Jan. 19 and Saturday, Jan. 22. Adding to the 2005 NASCAR Preseason Thunder anticipation will be the Speedway’s new multi-million dollar infield renovation, which includes new garages for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series and NASCAR Busch Series, a new Victory Lane and a new Fan Zone.(NASCAR PR)(8-31-2004)
Daytona Testing to Talladega? UPDATE NO..at Daytona: Daytona 500 testing in January could be moved to Talladega, according to NASCAR sources, because the recent spat of hurricanes has put infield reconstruction at Daytona far behind.(Winston Salem Journal)(10-11-2004)

the 2005 season as well as NASCAR Preseason Fan Fest. "Daytona International Speedway weathered the recent hurricanes and

"Contrary to what fans may have read, "The World Center of Racing" will be the place to see all of your NASCAR favorites as well as the Grand American Series."(DIS PR), for the January testing schedule, see Jayski's Testing Page.(10-11-2004)

Not sure if #44-Labonte will test or not, he is not running the Daytona 500 but may run the Budweiser Shootout. If he tests, it may be in the #84 team slot which was EVEN. NOTE: Labonte is not testing as he is not running at Daytona.

Daytona 500 Testing - Day 1 January 11, 2005
Odd Number Owners Points Position:
- Been Asked why no Schrader? why is Ken Schrader and the #49 BAM Racing team NOT testing this week at Daytona when they were scheduled to? No idea, have no heard a thing, would 'assume' that he and the team will test next week.
UPDATE: Been told that Schrader and BAM Racing will not test at Daytona at all, but will supposedly test at Talladega next week. Schrader will run some late model races this weekend at Central Arizona Raceway (1-13-2005)
- Gordon fastest in Tuesday's AM Practice and repeats in PM, LaJoie and Said at the top: #24-Jeff Gordon was fastest in the morning testing session at Daytona International Speedway for the Daytona 500 [Feb. 20th] with a speed of 185.265mph, followed by #36-Boris Said at 185.181, #19-Jeremy Mayfield at 184.506, #16-Greg Biffle at 184.430 and #97-Kurt Busch at 184.419. Slowest of the 26 was #92-Jeff Fuller at 176.585. Some drivers in different ride: Mike Skinner tested the #23 Bill Davis Racing Dodge, Jeff Fuller was in the #92 Chevy, Mike McLaughlin tested the #20 Chevy for Tony Stewart. 26 drivers ran the early session. There are 12 Chevy's [3 in top 10], 8 Dodge's [2] and 6 Ford's [5]. No speeds listed for #9-Kahne or #49-Schrader, who are odd number owners points. #19-Mayfield and #9-Kahne switched as Kahne is tire testing at Atlanta. Been asked me why #29 Harvick is not testing, he is not scheduled until next week as his team finished in an even points [14th] position in owners points.
Afternoon: #24-Jeff Gordon was once again fastest in Tuesday's afternoon session with a speed of 185.448, followed by #98-Randy LaJoie at 185.231; #36-Boris Said at 184.642, #38-Elliott Sadler at 184.604 and #16-Greg Biffle at 184.456. The fastest Dodge Charger was #19-Jeremy Mayfield who was 7th, Ganassi's two teams were very slow.(1-11-2005)
- Why no Stewart in the #20? why #20 testing this week? Tony Stewart's [#20 Home Depot chevy driver] absence was duly noted. Stewart was scheduled to test at Daytona next week [even owners points], but he [and the team] will be doing a Goodyear tire test at Texas instead. Stewart may not be the only star skipping Daytona 500 testing. Kevin Harvick might pass [due in next week]. Crew chief Greg Zipadelli said that the driver really has little to do here, so he's not worried about not having Stewart at the wheel. "We just tested Kentucky, we're going to Texas for two days of testing, then we're going to Vegas and California for more testing this month, and Tony is running in the 24 Hours here," Zipadelli said. "And Tony just ran the Chili Bowl too. So basically we're just giving him a couple of days off."(Winston Salem Journal)(1-12-2005)
