  • Crew Chief and Engine Builder Awards: Gordon's Hendrick Motorsports #24 team added more honors and money. Crew chief Robbie Loomis received $50,000 for leading the Plasti-Kote Qualify Finish Award with the best average finishes in the 36-race season, while engine builder Rick Wetzel was given $55,000 as the Clevite Engine Parts Engine Builder of the Year.(That's Racin')(11-30-2001)

    
    CLEVITE ENGINE BUILDER AWARD
    
    Rewards the top Engine Builders in Winston Cup using a special points system -
    The top 15 finishing positions, according to the official NASCAR race reports,
    receive points starting at 15 points for 1st place on down to 1 point for 15th place.
    Bonus points are awarded to starting positions 1, 2 and 3
    (pole position=5 points, 2nd=3 points and 3rd=1 point).
    Also, five (5) additional bonus points are awarded for the car that leads the most laps per race,
    according to the NASCAR race report.
    
    The Engine Builder of the year receives $77,000, second $20,000 and third $10,000
    (the awards are 2000 $ amounts, not sure if they have changed for 2001)

    GATORADE FRONT RUNNER AWARD Points awarded as follows - 1 point to any driver who leads a lap during a race and 3 points to the driver who leads the most laps in a race (a driver if they lead the most laps, gets 3 points total, not 3 + 1). If a tie occurs, the driver with the highest finishing position wins the award. The driver who leads the most laps in a race wins $10,000. The driver who has the highest number of points at the end of the year receives $75,000. If a tie occurs, the award goes to the driver highest in Winston Cup drivers points.     PLASTI-KOTE QUALITY FINISH AWARD Plasti-Kote, the Official Spray Paint of NASCAR, presents a $4,300 Winning Finish Award to the crew chief of the winning car in each of the 36 NASCAR Winston Cup Series events. At the conclusion of the season, Plasti-Kote will present $65,000 in Quality Finish Awards to the crew chiefs on the top three teams that post the best average overall finishing positions in 36 NWCS races this season.
