But NASCAR disallowed the time after the car's rear end was found to be too low after the lap. That knocked Green entirely out of the field and allowed Mike Wallace, who otherwise would have gone home, to get the 36th spot - the last one available based on speed.   • Friday Practice is over for the Aaron's 499 at Talladega. The fastest [surprise] was #8-Dale Earnhardt Jr at 187.060 [slower then the Busch pole], followed by #48-Jimmie Johnson at 186.681 and #25-Jeff Gordon at 186.638. Slowest were #14-Larry Foyt at 180.672 and #11-Brett Bodine at 181.991. Christian Fittipaldi was listed in the #45 Dodge, not Kyle Petty. Per an XM Satellite- NASCAR Radio (Subscription Required) report, the #30-Jeff Green car failed inspection and didn't get passed until 1:00pm/et and missed the first hour of practice. #02-Hermie Sadler and #77-Dave Blaney also got out late.(NASCAR.com's Trackpass)

  • Qualifying Order is up for the Aaron's 499 at Talladega. 46 cars/drivers are listed. #83-Kerry Earnhardt is not listed on the qualifying order as he was on the Entry List. Christian Fittipaldi is listed in the #45 car, not Kyle Petty on the NASCAR.com qualifying order, but Petty is listed on ThatsRacin.com.   • Talladega Rules: The aerodynamic rules package that was used for the Daytona 500 remains in place for Sunday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway, the season's second restrictor-plate race. Those rules (for 2003 model cars): rear spoilers must by 6¼ inches tall and 57 inches wide; rear spoiler angles must be minimum of 55 degrees and maximum of 65 degrees; restrictor plate openings must be 7/8 inch. There is one slight modification: rear spoilers must have a minimum thickness of 3/16 inch. Also, the approximate 13.5-gallon fuel cell will again be used.(NASCAR PR)(4-2-2003)
