Race Comments: Before an estimated crowd of 250,000, Jeff Gordon won the Brickyard 400, posting his 69th career NASCAR NEXTEL Cup victory and a record-setting fourth Brickyard 400 victory. Prior to the green flag, the following driver, under penalty, dropped from his original starting position to the rear of the field for the reason indicated: #18 Bobby Labonte (engine change).
