NOTES

 

ท          CHASE FADES:  With 10 to go, there can be quite a bit of movement in The Race to the Chase. In 2004, Bobby Labonte stood in 7^th at the 16-race mark with a 126-point cushion, and failed to make The Chase. In 2005, Elliott Sadler was in 3^rd with a 171-point margin on 11^th, and did not make it. Last year, Tony Stewart was in 7^th (+76) and Greg Biffle was 9^th (+31), and both failed to make the field.

 

ท          COMEBACKS:  If we use Matt Kenseth’s summer campaign of 2005 as the benchmark (15^th place, -271 out of 10^th), every driver through 22^nd place Elliott Sadler (-269) is still in contention to make the expanded 12-spot Chase field. That would eliminate Kasey Kahne, who will have to set a new Chase comeback record by climbing out of 26^th place and making up 424 points on 12^th place, which is currently held by Dale Earnhardt Jr.
