NOTES:

 

·          FIRST PODIUM FINISH OF ’09 LIFTS MONTOYA:  Juan Pablo Montoya picked a great time to pick up his first Top 3 of the season, finishing second at Pocono and gaining 69 precious points over 13^th place. Now 169 points ahead in 8^th, a great run at Watkins Glen could give JPM a commanding position on making the Chase for the first time in his career.

·          BAD DAY FOR REUTIMANN:  David Reutimann’s inspired charge for the 09 Chase suffered a big blow with a 29^th at Pocono. He lost 53 points to 12^th place and three positions from 13^th back to 16^th. He’s now 121 points out with five races to go.

·          KAHNE’S FIFTH GIVES HIM CUSHION:  Richard Petty may be about to make his first visit to the Chase podium at Richmond and congratulate Kasey Kahne, whose fifth at Pocono moved him 59 points further ahead of 13^th. Now +180 ahead, Kahne has gone from 14^th to 7^th in the last five races.

·          TIME FOR ROWDY TO CHARGE:  Kyle Busch struggled to a 16^th at Pocono, but lost only 19 points and gained a position to 13^th. “Rowdy” is 101 points out of Greg Biffle and he should be a favorite to get a top 5 at Watkins Glen this Sunday. 

·          T12 BY OWNERS:  Stewart-Haas 2 of 2 (100%), Hendrick 3 of 4 (75%), Roush 3 of 5 (60%),   Earnhardt/Ganassi 1 of 2 (50%) Gibbs 1 of 3 (33%), Penske 1 of 3 (33%), Petty 1 of 3 (33%).
