UPDATE 2 - Tornados Joins Stewart-Haas Racing: Stewart-Haas Racing has announced a two-year partnership with Tornados, a brand of Dinuba, Calif.-based Ruiz Foods, in a press conference Saturday at Phoenix International Raceway. Tornados, the bold taste of savory meats, real cheeses and zesty sauces rolled in a crispy seasoned crust, will adorn Ryan Newman’s #39 Chevy as a primary sponsor for five Sprint Cup races beginning in 2010, and when not serving as a primary, will take associate sponsor status on the car’s lower-rear quarterpanel. Teammate Tony Stewart will also carry Tornados on a portion of the lower-rear quarterpanel of his #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy. The agreement extends through the 2011 season, where Tornados will again be the primary sponsor of Newman and the #39 team for five Sprint Cup races. “We’re very proud to partner with Tornados for the next two years,” said Stewart, who in his first year as a driver/owner has notched five wins for Stewart-Haas Racing, including the non-point NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race in May. “They’re new to the sport and we aim to make their entry into NASCAR a positive one that will grow their business, and ultimately, grow their involvement within the sport and Stewart-Haas Racing.”
The #39 Tornados Chevy will debut in March at Atlanta and will return in April at Phoenix, in July at Daytona, in August at Michigan before culminating its season run as Newman’s primary sponsor with an October visit to Martinsville. “In this sport, we’re always on the go, whether we’re at home or at the track,” said Newman, winner of the 50th running of the Daytona 500 in 2008. “Tornados is an ideal partner for us because a lot of times we have to eat quick, especially at the track. Now, we don’t have to sacrifice taste for speed. They’re a welcome addition to Stewart-Haas Racing and we look forward to many successful years with them.” Tornados offer variety and convenience, contain zero grams trans fat, and are available in a wide variety of innovative flavors that are perfect for breakfast, lunch, For more information about Tornados, please visit www.MyTornados.com.(Stewart-Haas Racing)(11-14-2009)
U.S. Army to return to Newman's #39 in 2010: The U.S. Army Accessions Command announced that the U.S. Army will continue its sponsorship of Tony Schumacher’s Top Fuel Dragster in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) and will return as a primary sponsor of Ryan Newman and the #39 Chevy for 15 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in 2010 [was 23 races in 2009].
“Tony Schumacher and Ryan Newman are not only outstanding drivers, they are also powerful and effective advocates for the great men and women of our Army,” said Lt. Gen. Benjamin C. Freakley, Commanding General U.S. Army Accessions Command. “Both drivers possess and demonstrate a passion for our Army Strong Soldiers and their families. They and their teams share our Army values and demonstrate the mental, emotional and physical strength which are the hallmark of our Soldiers. We are very excited about the opportunities our participation in the National Hot Rod Association and the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series present us to tell our Soldiers’ stories and connect with Americans across the country.”
In the U.S. Army’s inaugural year with Stewart-Haas Racing, Newman and the #39 team were able to deliver two poles and a berth in the coveted Chase for the Championship thanks to 15 top-10 finishes and a staggering lap completion rate of 99.76 percent. Off the track, Newman and co-owner Tony Stewart have experienced Soldier greening at different Army posts, including Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Knox, Ky., Fort Jackson, S.C., and Fort Benning, Ga. They also visited Soldiers at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and met with the Golden Knights parachute team. It’s a partnership that extends the U.S. Army’s role as a primary sponsor since it first entered the sport in 2003.
“It’s an honor driving the #39 U.S. Army Chevrolet and representing the men and women who serve and protect our country,” Newman said. “And much like them, we’re never satisfied. We want to achieve more, and the dedication, teamwork and passion of the Soldiers who defend our country is all the inspiration we need to deliver on the racetrack. There is no group of people more dedicated to service and committed to excellence than the men and women of our armed forces.”
In addition to serving as the primary sponsor for 15 races, including the Coca-Cola 600 Memorial Day weekend event at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the U.S. Army will serve as an associate sponsor on the #39 car for the remaining races. The U.S. Army will also serve as an associate sponsor on Tony Stewart’s #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy, with yearlong placement on the car’s B-post.
“We’re obviously very proud to continue our representation of the U.S. Army,” said Stewart, co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing along with Oxnard, Calif.-based Haas Automation – the largest CNC machine tool builder in the western world. “We accomplished a lot in our first year together, but we want more. It’s our never-ending goal to put the Soldiers’ car in victory lane, and we appreciate the opportunity to do just that in 2010.”
The U.S. Army Motorsports Program began in September 2000 when Congress directed the Secretary of the Army to conduct a five-year motorsports outreach test. In 2003, building upon the success of the NHRA program, NASCAR was added. In addition to sponsorship of Newman and Schumacher, the programs also include an educational outreach to high school, vo-tech and junior college students focusing on career planning, goal setting, and career opportunities in motorsports and the Army. In addition, on-site interactive displays allow prospects and their influencers to experience what it is like to be a Soldier and to interact with Soldiers.
The U.S. Army Accessions Command, headquartered at Fort Monroe, Va., is charged with providing integrated command and control of recruiting for the Army’s officer, warrant officer, and enlisted forces. Designed to meet the human resource needs of the Army, the command begins the process of transforming volunteers into Soldiers and leaders for the Army. Stewart thanks HMS employees in person: On Monday [9/21], #14-Tony Stewart made a surprise visit to the Hendrick Motorsports chassis and engine shop in Concord, NC. It was his second visit this year to thank all those employees face to face for their part in helping both #39-Ryan Newman and Stewart's cars make the chase and for all they've done for them this year.(9-24-2009)
Stewart: Regular-season champ should be honored: #14-Tony Stewart isn't complaining about the way NASCAR resets the points when the Chase for the championship starts. The two-time series champion knows the rules are the rules and besides, he won his second title during the second year of the Chase in 2005. But after dominating the regular season, Stewart admits he'd like something -- anything really -- for his efforts besides a spot behind top-seeded Mark Martin when the 10-race chase begins on Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. Martin starts the Chase with a 10-point cushion over Stewart and Jimmie Johnson based on his series-high four wins this year. "I think there should be a $1 million bonus to be leading the points, and not just because it's us," said Stewart. "I think there should be something. It doesn't upset me that the points get upset, but I do think there should be a reward for the team that is leading after 26 weeks. That's an accomplishment."(Associated Press/ESPN)(9-20-2009)
Stewart has not made Danica an offer: on Thursday's Dan Patrick Show, #14-Tony Stewart discussed the upcoming Chase for the Cup and the possibility he'll ask Danica Patrick to join his team next year. Here are some of his takes ...
-- Dan asked Stewart if he's going to hire Danica Patrick next season.
"I have not made her an offer," Stewart said. "The one thing I have done is spend some time talking to her." Stewart said that the two of them have evaluated how it would work. He thinks she should start in the Nationwide series instead of Sprint. But Stewart said they don't have a Truck Series of Nationwide Series team, so that might be a problem. PRS Guitars donates guitars to drivers: This year’s Chevy Rock & Roll 400 marks the fifth year that one winning NASCAR driver will walk away with a four foot tall, fifty pound trophy custom designed and built by PRS [Paul Reed Smith] Guitars from Stevensville, Maryland. In addition, this year six drivers will leave the track with their own PRS guitar that will help aid many more people down the road.
Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, and Clint Bowyer have each won a race in Richmond under the domain of Chevrolet. To honor their success and their efforts, PRS held a special press conference Friday at Richmond International Raceway, during which PRS President, Jack Higginbotham presented the aforementioned drivers with a PRS Corvette guitar for their individual charities. Jack Higginbotham, President of Paul Reed Smith Guitars, said, “It is our hope that each of these guitars will develop its own story and have a positive effect on the lives of others. Whether it is cancer research, shelter for the needy or assistance for underprivileged children, each driver has a passion for their cause, and we are honored to help them in their mission.”
PRS’s extensive involvement in racing began with a sponsorship of the world dominating factory Corvette C6.r racing team in 2003. During the past six years, PRS’s involvement in racing has ranged from being a part of large-scale NASCAR events to its own grassroots “Laps For Life” charity event helping support the Kimmel Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland.(PRS Guitars site)(9-12-2009)
Stewart wins Prelude to the Dream at Eldora Speedway: Tony Stewart won the fifth annual Gillette Young Guns Prelude to the Dream all-star dirt late model race Wednesday night at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, marking the third time in four years Stewart has won the event. Stewart passed Kenny Wallace on lap 13 of the 30-lap event and led the final 18 laps en route to victory. “This was probably the best I’ve run in the Prelude,” said Stewart, who bought Eldora in 2004. Clint Bowyer finished 3.358 seconds behind Stewart in the runner-up spot, while Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Matt Kenseth rounded out the top-five. Drag Racing standout Cruz Pedregon, David Reutimann, Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne and Jimmie Johnson comprised the top-10. There were four caution periods during the event, although the laps conducted under caution did not count. The race, which drew more than 23,000 fans, was broadcast live on HBO Pay-Per-View with proceeds from the nationwide telecast supporting four military-themed charities – Wounded Warrior Project, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, Operation Homefront and Fisher House (True Speed Communication). Office Depot Small Business of NASCAR named: Office Depot announced Saturday that Dragon Dojo Martial Arts of Panama City, Florida, has been named the fifth annual “Official Small Business of NASCAR, Courtesy of Office Depot.” Dragon Dojo Martial Arts owner Shihan Robert Wiest was introduced by Office Depot during a press event this morning at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Wiest, 44, was joined by Tony Stewart, driver of the #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy and team owner of Stewart-Haas Racing; Norris Scott, Managing Director of Partnership Marketing and Business Solutions at NASCAR; Brett Frood, Executive Vice President at Stewart-Haas Racing; and Ivan Reed, Senior Manager of Campaigns and Sales Promotions for Office Depot. Wiest, who opened Dragon Dojo Martial Arts in 2001 and has grown his business from an initial enrollment of two students to more than 150 today, helped Stewart unveil the special edition #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy featuring his company’s logo. The logo – an eye-catching red dragon – will make its on-track debut during the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Pep Boys Auto 500 race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. As the “Official Small Business of NASCAR, Courtesy of Office Depot,” Dragon Dojo Martial Arts will receive invaluable exposure on national television, and the company’s logo will be featured on the rear panel – also known as the TV panel – of the #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy at AMS along with a $14,000 Small Business Makeover from Office Depot, VIP race experience at AMS, a private coaching session with NASCAR executives, $1,400 copy & print services card from Office Depot, $1,000 worth of business cards and stationery from Office Depot, One year of Tech Depot Services Tech Support and the use of the “Official Small Business of NASCAR logo until June 1, 2010.(Edelman for Office Depot Racing)(9-6-2009)
No third team for Stewart in 2010: Tony Stewart, #14 Office Depot /Old Spice Chevy, met with members of the media at Atlanta Motor Speedway and discussed many things, including:
HAVE YOU DECIDED THAT YOU ARE NOT GOING TO ADD ANOTHER TEAM FOR NEXT YEAR?: “No, it’s too late to do something for next year. We’re two weeks before the Chase and we’re going to be very focused on hopefully keeping two cars with a chance to possibly win a championship. We just didn’t get far enough down to get something done for next year and I’m not sure that’s a bad thing. This is a decision where timing is everything for it and when we do it, it doesn’t matter when it happens, but when it does we want it to be the right timing and the right situation.”(GM Racing)(9-6-2009)
Danica to NASCAR in 2010 but not leaving IRL: Danica Patrick will "all but certainly" be in NASCAR in 2010, but won't give up Indy car racing and will limit next year's activity to the Nationwide Series and Trucks, according to a source very close to the situation. Tony Stewart is the "star candidate" to be her partner and mentor in NASCAR, the source said, adding that Patrick's recent visits to Stewart-Haas Racing were much more than social -- that she and Stewart were discussing a deal, and are close to one. The plan is for Patrick to run a significant number of Nationwide races, with additional seat time in Trucks and ARCA cars. Stewart took a similar transitional path to NASCAR in 1998, running a full Indy car schedule and also 22 Nationwide (then Busch) races. Patrick's likeliest first stock car race would be the ARCA event at Daytona during SpeedWeeks next February. Because Stewart's team has neither Nationwide cars nor trucks in its stable, a third partner will be brought into the mix, the source said -- possibly Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s JR Motorsports, or, more likely, Kevin Harvick Inc., which fields both Trucks and Nationwide cars. Patrick is close to signing a contract renewal with Andretti Green Racing for Indy cars, the source said, but it's not a done deal yet. Sponsorship is not considered an issue for America's top female driver, and the first car manufacturer to sign Patrick to a NASCAR deal would get a big boost in brand exposure.(ESPN)(9-6-2009)
Another visit to SHR by Danica? UPDATE: Lucky timing for several race fans who got a surprise at Stewart Hass Racing on Monday afternoon. As they witnessed Tony Stewart giving Danica Patrick a personal tour of Stewart Hass Racing. It's at least her second visit to SHR.(9-2-2009)
UPDATE: After Danica Patrick made a second visit to his race shop earlier this week, talking with reporters at Atlanta Motor Speedway, Tony Stewart left little doubt NASCAR racing is in her future. "I know that she's serious about it. I know that's what she wants to do." The two-time Sprint Cup Champion added, "I don't think she has some misguided idea that it's going to be easy to do it. She wants to do it the right way. She has the intentions of doing everything right and she's kind of come to us to see our opinion about how she should go about it." Stewart also made it clear, he doesn't see Patrick leaving the Indy Racing League in the short term, "I think she wants to know how to make the transition I think more than anything and she's trying to put together her IRL deal and try to transition that into NASCAR. So, I think she's trying to do it the right way. She's not just cutting the cord and then all of sudden jumping in a car that she's unfamiliar with. She wants to stay successful where she's at, but at the same time try to figure out a way to be able to drive and get some seat time in a car to where she can start learning to where when she does come out that she's got her act together. I think she really wants to do it. It's just trying to figure out the time frame and what steps should she take to do it right and to show everybody that she wants to do it the right way."(PRN's Garage Pass Radio Show)(9-5-2009)

Three Sponsors, three wins for Stewart: #14-Tony Stewart has three sponsors who server as primary sponsors for a certain number of races, Old Spice, Office Depot and Burger King. Stewart has won three races in 2010 [so far], with each sponsor getting a win:
Office Dept won at Pocono in June
Burger King won at Daytona in July
Old Spice won at Watkins Glen in August.
Stewart wins at Watkins Glen: #14-Tony Stewart won the The Heluva Good! Stewart not expected to expand to three teams UPDATE: Owner/driver Tony Stewart says he doesn’t foresee his Stewart-Haas Racing organization expanding to include a third NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team in 2010. Stewart-Haas currently fields the #14 Chevrolet for Stewart as well as the #39 Chevrolet for teammate Ryan Newman. “We’re at a point in the season right now where we’re getting close to the Chase [For The Sprint Cup], and we’re focused on that,” Stewart said Tuesday while hosting the second annual Smoke Show fantasy camp at Texas Motor Speedway. “We would pretty much have to have the decision, the agreements on all that already done. We’d have to have the driver, the sponsor; we’d have to have that done by now to be able for it to be feasible for next year.” While Stewart has previously said that he would be open to adding a third team in the future, he said Tuesday that expansion wouldn’t come “at the sacrifice of performance.”(SceneDaily)(8-7-2009)
UPDATE: #14-Tony Stewart, met with members of the media at Watkins Glen International and discussed many topics, including expanding to a third team:
HOW UNLIKELY IS IT THAT YOU WILL RUN A THIRD CAR IN 2010?
Stewart: “I don’t think we’ve ruled that out yet. It’s getting to the point in the season if we’re going to do a third team and have a third team for next season it would have to happen pretty quickly. At least having the sponsor and driver lined up to make sure that we have an adequate amount of time to get all the tools and pieces in place for next year. But I would say it’s not very likely right now.”
DID YOU BUILD STEWART-HAAS WITH EXPANSION IN MIND IN TERMS OF SPACE AND EQUIPMENT AND PEOPLE? HOW SIMPLE OR SEAMLESS WOULD IT BE TO EXPAND FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE?
STewart: "The building is capable of holding three teams for sure. That's not a problem. It's just adding people and making sure that the funding is in place. It would be adding a little more equipment and people, but having that funding and the driver is the biggest key."(GM Racing)(8-7-2009)
Stewart can clinch chase spot: #14-Tony Stewart can clinch a spot in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup this weekend, yet another accolade in his dream first season as a driver-owner. If Stewart leaves Watkins Glen with a 781-point lead on the 13th-place driver, he clinches. He currently has a 726-point lead on 13th-place #18-Kyle Busch.(NASCAR)(8-6-2009)
Stewart wrecks in practice: #14-Tony Stewart, scheduled to start first in the Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 Sprint Cup race at Pocono Raceway on Sunday after qualifying was rained out, wrecked just a few minutes into Saturday's first practice. Stewart got loose between turn 2 and 3, hit the wall and spun around, doing serious damage to the right side and rear end of the #14 Old Spice Swagger Chevy. The team pulled out the backup car and Stewart will have to fall to the rear of the field before the green flag on Sunday. Stewart had the same problem at Pocono back in June. Qualifying was rained out, so Stewart started first as the points leader. Stewart wrecked in practice and went to a back, started at the rear of the field and won the race.(8-1-2009)
MORE - Stewart talks about wreck..a little bit: Tony Stewart, #14 Old Spice Swagger/Office Depot Chevy, was involved in a single car accident in turn three at Pocono Raceway during practice for Sunday's race. Stewart will drop to the back of the field prior to the start:
WHAT HAPPENED? “I just…I screwed up. I got in too deep and got loose and couldn’t save it.”
LAST TIME HERE YOU CAME FROM THE BACK AND WON, DOES THAT GIVE YOU ANY MORE CONFIDENCE? “I know we can do it. I tore up a really good race car today.”
WHAT LAP ON THE TRACK WAS THAT FOR YOU? “Second.”
ARE YOU JUST MAD AT YOURSELF? “Yes.”
Data on the backup car for Stewart: Chassis No. 14-487 car is a carryover chassis from the former Haas CNC team, with a new front clip and body installed prior to the 2009 season. It debuted at Martinsville in March 2008 with Jeremy Mayfield at the wheel. He qualified 31st and finished 32nd. Chassis No. 14-487’s next start came at Richmond in May, where Johnny Sauter drove it to a 37th-place starting spot and a 33rd-place finish. It ran again in June at New Hampshire in Loudon, with Sauter qualifying 37th and finishing 37th. The car was then tested at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, N.C., in October in preparation for Martinsville later that month. There, Tony Raines started 43rd and finished 40th. Its last start of 2008 came in October at Lowe’s Motor Speedway, where Raines finished 21st after starting 43rd. Tony Stewart tested Chassis No. 14-487 with its new clip and body on Jan. 14, 2009 at New Smyrna Speedway in preparation for its first start of 2009 at Auto Club Speedway. There, it enjoyed a solid outing, qualifying sixth and finishing seventh. It was fitted with a new nose and tested in the wind tunnel in preparation for its seventh career start at Darlington, where it qualified 18th and delivered a strong third-place finish – Stewart’s best result in 17 career Sprint Cup starts at Darlington.(Chevy Racing)(8-1-2009)
Stewart still considering a third team: #14-Tony Stewart met with members of the media, part of the transcript:
STEWART - WHERE ARE YOU ABOUT ADDING A THIRD TEAM TO STEWART-HAAS RACING: “We are definitely open to it for sure. We are interested for sure. We feel like it is a matter of timing, it is everything. I don’t know that something would happen for next year. I think we are getting close to the stage of the season where it may get too late to have that opportunity to add a third car for next year. It is something that at least as a company we feel comfortable with and feel like with the right opportunity, that it is definitely possible.”(Chevy Racing)(8-1-2009)
- Swagger scheme for Stewart: Tony Stewart’s typically fire engine red #14 Chevy is now candy apple red for this weekend’s race at Pocono as it carries an Old Spice Swagger paint scheme highlighting the brand’s scented line of men’s anti-perspirant/deodorant, body wash and body spray. Following the race, fans will have the chance to bid on the firesuit worn by Stewart, with proceeds from the auction benefiting the Tony Stewart Foundation.(SHR), see images of the car on my #14 Team Schemes page.(7-29-2009)
Stewart looking to enter select club at Pocono: The Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 at Pocono Raceway on August 2nd will be the 64th NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the 2.5 mile Super Speedway. Since 1982, Pocono Raceway has hosted two races each year (total of 28 years) in NASCAR's premier series. During that time only six drivers have won both Pocono races in the same year. #14-Tony Stewart, who is currently leading the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series points race, won the 2009 Pocono 500 on June 7th and has an excellent chance to become the seventh driver to complete the "Pocono Sweep." If Stewart wins the August 2nd Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500, he will join an elite company of NASCAR greats: Bobby Allison (1982), Bill Elliott (1985), Tim Richmond (1986), Bobby Labonte (1999), Jimmie Johnson (2004) and Denny Hamlin (2006) as the only drivers to accomplish the "Pocono Sweep". Tony Stewart Joins International Motorsports Industry Show: Officials from the International Motorsports Industry Show (IMIS) announced that two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart has assumed a partnership role in the inaugural event Dec. 2-3, 2009 at the Indiana Convention Center in downtown Indianapolis. The two-day IMIS trade show offers individuals and companies from all facets of the racing business the chance to interact, share ideas and products, build relationships and attended seminars to improve motorsports around the world, all while showcasing Indianapolis as the capital of the worldwide motorsports industry.
Stewart owns or co-owns 14 racing-related businesses, including Stewart-Haas Racing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, Tony
Stewart Racing in USAC and theWorld of Outlaws Sprint Car Series and True Speed Communication, a media relations agency
specializing in motorsports. The Columbus, Ind., native also owns Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, and is a partner in Paducah
(Ky.) International Raceway and Macon (Ill.) Speedway.
“Being from Indiana, I know how important it is for Indianapolis to have something like the International Motorsports Industry
Show,” Stewart said. “IMIS is an event for true racers at all levels, and there’s no better place to host it than a place with a rich
motorsports heritage like Indianapolis. But, in addition to its history, Indianapolis also has a tremendous amount of racing-related
businesses. There are several IndyCar, USAC, Grand-Am, NHRA and World of Outlaws teams based in Indy, and more racing-related
products and services than you can count. That’s why it makes sense to have IMIS in Indianapolis.”
Stewart’s USAC and World of Outlaws teams are housed in Brownsburg, Ind., just 11 miles west of the Indianapolis Motor
Speedway, while the home offices of Tony Stewart Racing are located in the Park 100 area on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
The Indiana Motorsports Association (IMA), which works toward unifying all motorsports business-related interests within the state
of Indiana and to enrich the economic impact of Indiana motorsports businesses, is serving as the host for IMIS. Tony Stewart Racing
has been a member of the IMA for more than two years. More than 300 booths have already been booked for IMIS, but for racing companies and people interested there is limited space still available. For details on how to be a part of the show, visit www.imis-indy.com.(True Speed Communication)(7-25-2009)
Danica says no to F1 try: During a visit to Los Angeles to attend the ESPY Awards, Danica Patrick also talked about her recent visit to Tony Stewart's NASCAR shop, the prospects of her moving to the Formula One series and other topics in a question-and-answer session: Have you at least narrowed down the series where you would drive next year? "I'd say it's probably not F1." You don't have any interest in this new U.S. team being formed for F1? "Not really, and the fact that to my knowledge they've never called. I've had opportunities to take it a step further with Formula One, and I don't want to lead anyone down a path. It's not in my heart to go there. I've explored Europe before. I particularly like to be here and I like my family and I like my friends and I like my creature comforts of my home country."(Los Angeles Times)(7-20-2009)
Danica visits Stewart Haas: UPDATE2: IRL star Danica Patrick was at Stewart Haas racing today on a personal shop tour, she even went into the fan zone and signed autographs for a bunch of surprised fans who were visiting the shop.(7-13-2009)
UPDATE: Patrick was a guest of team owner Tony Stewart last fall at Phoenix. But the two-time Cup champion was not available to be a guide Monday because he was at a Goodyear tire test at Atlanta Motor Speedway. According to sources, Patrick was introduced to Ryan Newman, crew chief Tony Gibson, General Manager Bobby Hutchens and engineer Matt Borland. The tour included stops in the fabrication shop and a look at the seven-post shaker rig.(FoxSports)(7-14-2009)

Stewart, an Indiana native and two-time Sprint Cup Series champion, will be helping local kids get ready to head back to school with the tools they need to succeed. Stewart is partnering with Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation for a special “Back To School Celebration” to donate backpacks containing essential school supplies to Indianapolis area children in need. During the event, Stewart will assist the Foundation in donating 5,000 backpacks to representatives from local organizations and schools as part of the Office Depot Foundation’s National Backpack Program. This year marks a milestone for the Foundation as it will donate its 2-millionth backpack since beginning the program in 2001. This session is closed to the public.(AMS)(7-10-2009)
- Busch says Stewart dumped him at Daytona: All is not forgiven in the eyes of #18-Kyle Busch. Busch said he felt he was "dumped" by #14-Tony Stewart Saturday night at Daytona when the two cars collided as the drivers headed to the finish line of the Coke Zero 400. Busch didn't directly criticize Stewart at first, but found a way to make his point when asked what NASCAR should do about last-lap crashes at Daytona and Talladega. "NASCAR can take steps to look at it," Busch said. "If the second-place driver dumps the leader, then black flag his ass. He doesn't get the win. If he's up along side the leader and dumps him, give the third-place car the victory." Busch then was asked if he considered the bump with Stewart "a dump." "Yes, it would be considered a dump," he said.(ESPN.com)(7-9-2009)
- Stewart say Goodyear has solved Indy tire problems: Two-time Allstate 400 winner #14-Tony Stewart says he's confident Goodyear has solved the tire problems that plagued last year's race at the Brickyard. Stewart was among the drivers who participated in Goodyear's seven test sessions at the track since last year, when the problems turned the race into a series of 10- to 12-lap sprints. Stewart says he was able to run about 30 laps on the new tires during the tests and he's "not at all" concerned about their durability. (Associated Press)(7-8-2009)
- Grubb Named Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race at Daytona: Darian Grubb, crew chief for the #14 Burger King Chevy driven by Tony Stewart, has been named the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Race following Saturday night's Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway. After qualifying was rained out, the #14 team was able to pick the first pit stall by virtue of acquiring the pole position as the points leader. Great track position and a strong car that needed very few changes throughout the evening gave the team an advantage over the rest of the field. Stewart led the most laps in the race and resided in the top-three for nearly all of the 400 miles completed. In addition to the $1,000 check, the winning crew chief will receive signage to announce the win on their pit box the following week. The crew chief with the most weekly wins will be honored as the Wypall Wipers Crew Chief of the Year and will be presented a $20,000 check at the season finale in Homestead.(Wypall)(7-7-2009)
- 'Back to School' for Stewart at Chicago: Tony Stewart will sport a colorful "Back-To-School" paint scheme on his #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy during this weekend's LifeLock.com 400 race at Chicagoland Speedway. The scheme includes everything from crayons to paper clips to pencils, and even reads "Teacher's Pet" on the decklid, which is designed to look like a school composition book.(Edelman/True Speed PR), see images of the scheme on the #14 Paint Schemes page.(7-7-2009)
- NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Reaches Midpoint:
Two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Tony Stewart needed little time to grasp the driver-owner concept. At the season’s midpoint, he has already:
* Won two races (Pocono and Daytona), becoming the first driver-owner to win a race since Ricky Rudd in 1998, and the first to win multiple races since Rudd in ’97;
* Captured the points lead, the first driver-owner to do so since Alan Kulwicki in 1992;
* Put both of his Stewart-Haas Racing cars in the top 12 in points.
Stewart’s surprising success highlights a season filled with compelling storylines. Competition is strong and balanced, as illustrated by the 11 different race winners this season. There were 12 different winners in all of 2008, including seven drivers who have yet to win this season. In other words, last year’s mark will likely be passed.
Some other statistics gleaned from the first half:
* 7 different teams represented in the current NASCAR Sprint Cup top 12
* 8 different Coors Light Pole winners
* 34 drivers with at least one top-10 finish
* 40 drivers have led at least one lap
* Average Margin of Victory of 1.044 seconds
* 10 races with an MOV under 1 second
* Average of 11 leaders per race
* Average of 20 lead changes per race
* Average of 22 green flag passes for the lead all around the track
* Average of 3,038 green flag passes per race
* 52% of the cars finished on the lead lap
* 85% of the cars were running at the finish
* All four manufacturers have won a race and are in the top 12

- Stewart wins at Daytona: #14-Tony Stewart won the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona International Speedway for his 2nd win of 2009 and the 35th of his career. #18-Busch passed Stewart coming to the white flag and led through turn 4, but Stewart gave him a bump and tried to pass on the outside, Busch moved up to block and Stewart moved him out of the way, spinning Busch into the wall. Busch was then hit by #9-Kahne and several other cars were collected at the start-finish line. #48-Johnson finished second followed by #11-Hamlin, #99-Edwards, #2-Busch, #47-Ambrose, #83-Vickers, #17-Kenseth, #42-Montoya, and #19-Sadler. There was also a big wreck on lap 77 that involved 13 cars. There were 8 cautions for 30 laps and there were 23 lead changes among 10 drivers.

- Burger King sponsorship of Stewart kicks off at Daytona: Saturday Burger King Corp. will officially kick-off the company's sponsorship of Tony Stewart and Stewart-Haas Racing at Daytona International Speedway with the debut of the #14 Burger King Chevy. Burger King Corp. is teaming with TNT for the "Wide Open" race coverage of the Coke Zero 400 - allowing fans fewer interruptions during the race. BKC will feature two :60 ads in the lower third quadrant of the screen starring the King and Tony Stewart. This weekend also marks the first time race fans will have the opportunity to purchase Burger King branded Tony Stewart merchandise. The BKC/Stewart-Haas Racing sponsorship agreement, which was announced in January of this year, includes two primary paint schemes on the #14 Sprint Cup car, including this weekend at Daytona and for the September 27th race at Dover. The company also has a personal services agreement with Stewart.(Burger King PR), see image of the car on the #14 Team Schemes page.(7-3-2009)
- Stewart has tough night in Late Model race: Tony Stewart's first visit to Thunder Road International Speedbowl in Barre, Vt. was upstaged Thursday by the guy who helped to give him a car to drive at the track. Joey Pole.jpgIt was the members of Joey Pole Racing that prepared Stewart's Late Model for his Thursday visit to Thunder Road and it was Joey Polewarczyk Jr. who ended up stealing the show at the CarQuest Governor's Cup 150. Polewarcyk, of Hudson, N.H., held off Nick Sweet on a late restart and over the final five laps for the win. It was the first victory at Thunder Road for, Polewarczyk, a regular the American Canadian Tour. Stewart started 16th but spun 35 laps into the race and struggled to recover, coming back to finish 16th in the 30-car field, one lap down.(Hartford Courant)(6-26-2009)

- Stewart-Haas to three teams? #14-Tony Stewart is off to such a strong first season as a team owner, he's already open to expansion. The Sprint Cup Series points leader said Friday he'd consider adding a third team to Stewart-Haas Racing next year if the right combination was available. Although he promised his team not to expand too quickly, their success so far this season has made him consider his options. "I wanted to make sure we had two cars that were competitive and had a chance to win a championship," he said Friday at Infineon Raceway. "I'm proud of the fact that I think we're at that point. So if the right situation came along, we would entertain it."
Stewart did not offer any potential drivers or sponsors that would pique his interest. Of the current free agents, Brian Vickers is not looking to leave Red Bull Racing and Martin Truex Jr. is widely believed to be headed to Michael Waltrip Racing. That leaves Jamie McMurray as the only driver in a contract year still trying to finalize his 2010 plans. But, Hendrick Motorsports developmental driver Brad Keselowski wants a Cup ride next season and Hendrick doesn't currently have an open seat to offer. Stewart has a technical alliance with Hendrick. Then there's a handful of drivers - Kasey Kahne or Kurt Busch - who would potentially try to negotiate a release from the current contract for the opportunity to join SHR. Kahne and Stewart are both represented by Motorports Management Inc., which typically does not encourage its drivers from breaking their contracts.(Associated Press)(6-20-2009)
- Stewart-Haas Racing Announces Technical Partnership: Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR), the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series team co-owned Tony Stewart and Haas Automation, has formed a technical partnership with Sandvik Coromant. With its global headquarters in Sandviken, Sweden and its U.S. headquarters in Fair Lawn, N.J., Sandvik Coromant is the world’s leading producer of tools for turning, milling and drilling. This partnership with SHR allows the cutting tool company to become an official team sponsor, while providing SHR with all of its indexable tooling needs for its Haas CNC machines. Sandvik Coromant will add another dimension in technical expertise for SHR when it comes to finding machining solutions and employing the industry’s latest techniques. It also strengthens Sandvik Coromant’s relationship with Oxnard, Calif.-based Haas Automation, the largest CNC machine tool builder in the western world.(SHR)(6-12-2009)
- Stewart wins at Pocono: #14-Tony Stewart won the Pocono 500 at Pocono Raceway, his 1st win of 2009, 34th of his career, 1st in 19 races. Stewart won from the pole, even thou he started in the rear due to a backup car, but official results will show Stewart starting 1st. Stewart has now won at least one race every season for eleven straight years. Stewart is the first Owner/Driver to win a race since Ricky Rudd in September 1998 at Martinsville. Stewart is the 5th driver to win in the car #14, the last was Bobby Allison
at Montgomery, AL in December 1968. #99-Edwards finished 2nd followed by #00-Reutimann, #24-Gordon, #39-Newman, #47-Ambrose, #42-Montoya, #31-Burton and #77-Hornish Jr. #51-Dexter Bean finished 36th in his Sprint Cup debut, four laps off the pace. Stewart maintains the points lead with 2043, 71 pts ahead of #24-Gordon. There were 22 lead changes among 12 drivers and 5 cautions for 20 laps.

#18-Kyle Busch, Las Vegas, engine change [was to start 1st]
#09-Brad Keselowski, Talladega, engine change [was to start 9th]
#14-Tony Stewart, Pocono, backup car [was to start 1st]

- Interesting Stewart Stat: #14-Tony Stewart overtook #24-Jeff Gordon (26th) in the Cup standings. For the first time, Stewart-Haas Racing holds the points lead. The last time Stewart led the standings was after the Homestead race in 2005 -- his last championship season. In every season Stewart has led the standings, he has gone on to win the championship (2002 and 2005).(NASCAR)(6-3-2009)
- Stewart looking to be the first owner-driver winner since Rudd: #14-Tony Stewart's win in the All-Star Race doesn't go down as an official win for Stewart-Haas Racing, so the team will still be looking for its first points win Sunday night. Stewart will also look to do something that hasn't been done in this millennium: win as an owner-driver. No owner-driver has won a points race since Ricky Rudd in the Tide Ride back in 1998. The last to do it before him was Geoffrey Bodine in 1996, when the upstate New York driver fittingly won at Watkins Glen. Bodine was also the only other owner-driver to win the All-Star race.
Most wins as owner-driver since 1990
Driver -- Wins -- Last Win
Ricky Rudd -- 6 -- 1998
Darrell Waltrip -- 5 -- 1992
Geoffrey Bodine -- 4 -- 1996
Alan Kulwicki -- 4 -- 1992

- Tony Stewart wins the All-Star Race: #14-Tony Stewart won the All-Star Race at Lowe's Motor Speedway, passing #17-Matt Kenseth with 2 laps to go, to capture his first All-Star race victory, becoming only the 2nd owner/driver to ever win the All-Star Race [Geoff Bodine was the other in 1994]. Kenseth held on to 2nd, followed by #2-Busch, #11-Hamlin, #99-Edwards, #5-Martin, #18-Busch, #20-Logano [vote winner], #26-McMurray and #88-Earnhardt Jr. pole sitter 348-Johnson finished 13th after getting involved in a wreck. Just after the green flag for segment 4, #48-Johnson got loose, #11-Hamlin got into the rear of the #48-Johnson, who slid but didn't hit anything, made a pit stop and started at the ear of the field. Since segment 4 only green flag laps count, the segment restarted. Three laps into the segment #24-Gordon [inside], #18-Busch [middle] and #39-Newman [outside] were going for the lead, Gordon slid up into Busch and got turned around a after sliding thru the grass, nosed into the wall and is done for the evening. The field reverts to the order of the last completed lap, so Busch led.

- Haas released from prison: #14/#39 Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner Gene Haas was released from prison Friday after serving about 16 months for tax fraud and has received permission from a U.S. District Court judge to attend NASCAR races while on supervised release. Haas’ projected release was Sunday, but the federal Bureau of Prisons’ Web site indicated that Haas was released Friday. Haas was sentenced to two years in prison in November 2007 and entered a Lompoc, Calif., federal correctional facility Jan. 14, 2008. He has asked the court, and received permission, to attend NASCAR races while on supervised release. The first race mentioned in the motion is the upcoming Sprint All-Star Race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway. Haas’ race team, Haas CNC Racing, eventually became Stewart-Haas Racing when driver Tony Stewart was given a 50% interest in the team.(SceneDaily)(5-10-2009)
- Owner-Driver Breakthrough Victory could be at Hand for Stewart: You have to go all the way back to Sept. 27, 1998 to find the last time a driver-owner won an event in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Ricky Rudd raced to victory that day at Martinsville Speedway. After eight races this season, #14-Tony Stewart appears poised to end that drought. Stewart comes into Sunday’s Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway fourth in the series points — and comes off a season-best second-place finish at Phoenix. Stewart, in his first year heading up the new Stewart-Haas Racing operation, has accelerated the progress of his team and now, he comes to one of NASCAR’s fastest tracks, the 2.66-mile Talladega tri-oval. The high-banked layout also happens to be the place where Stewart’s last previous NASCAR Sprint Cup win occurred. Last October, Stewart captured Talladega’s fall race — his final victory for his former team at Joe Gibbs Racing. Although he’s still after his first win as a driver-owner, Stewart has quickly developed a championship style consistency. Which means, for the first time since Alan Kulwicki’s magical march to the series title in 1992, the words “driver-owner” and “championship” are compatible when used in the same sentence. “This is the best start to the season that I’ve ever had in my career,” Stewart said. “The last three weeks have just been amazing. I mean, it’s been so much fun. We’ve been in contention. We’ve led laps. We’re doing everything right. It’s just a matter of time. We are consistent now and that’s the way you’ve got to be. We’re just clicking them off one at a time here. I don’t think any of us would have predicted we would be in the top five in points.”(NASCAR PR)(4-25-2009)
- Revamped TonyStewart.com Unleashed on the Web: The 2009 racing season ushered in a new era in the career of Tony Stewart. The two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion has a new team, a new number and new sponsors. It’s only fitting that he has a new website – www.TonyStewart.com. The official TonyStewart.com has been redeveloped from top to bottom, coinciding with Stewart’s new role as a driver and owner with Stewart-Haas Racing, the two-car Sprint Cup team he co-owns with Oxnard, Calif.-based Haas Automation, the largest CNC machine tool builder in the western world.(TSC PR)(4-22-2009)
- Stewart donates to help injured Shih Tzu: #14-Tony Stewart's charitable foundation has donated an undisclosed amount of money to pay surgery costs for an injured stray Shih Tzu dog. Around midnight on St. Patrick's Day, the three-year-old male was taken to the Humane Society for Hamilton County with a broken back, and he needed immediate surgery. Joni Thompson, executive director of the Indianapolis-based Tony Stewart Foundation, found out and told the driver, whose Shih Tzu, Buddy, died in 2007. The foundation made a gift to the Humane Society specifically covering the costs of the surgery and the dog's special "wheelchair" to make up for losing the use of his hind legs. Stewart's past philanthropic work earned him NASCAR Illustrated's "Person of the Year" honors last year.(Florida Today/AP)(3-22-2009)

Stewart's NASCAR Sprint Cup team [#39-Ryan Newman] is sponsored by the U.S. Army. Stewart and NHRA driver Tony Schumacher spent a few hours with soldiers, getting a taste of Army life that hardly resembled the battles Stewart would wage with green plastic Army men in his parent's garden growing up.(ESPN.com/AP). - Stewart's Crew Grabs Tissot Pit Road Win in California: The #14 crew for Tony Stewart took top honors Sunday, winning the Tissot Pit Road Precision Award at the Auto Club 500 Sprint Cup race in Fontana, CA. Stewart's Old Spice/Office Depot Chevy spent the least amount of time on pit road (260.940 seconds) during the 250 lap, 500-mile race at Auto Club Speedway. The winning pit road performance helped Stewart to an eighth-place finish in the second race of the season. The #14 over-the-wall crew consists of: Jeff "Gooch" Patterson (gasman), Scott Radel (catch can), Mike Casto (jackman), Kelly Kellis (front tire changer), Todd Drakulich (front tire carrier), Daniel Smith (rear tire changer), Mike Morneau (rear tire carrier) and Troy Welty (windshield). The team's crew chief is Darian Grubb and the pit crew trainer is Joe Piette. The Tissot Pit Road Precision Award pays $5,000 for each Cup race to the winning pit road team. In addition, the team with the most pit road event wins will be awarded a $100,000 bonus at the completion of the 36-race schedule by Tissot, the official watch and timekeeper of NASCAR.(DMF Communications/Tissot PR)(2-24-2009)
- NASCAR Stars Back Off Resort Project: Three of the NASCAR celebrities who endorsed the Sheridan Ridge resort development have returned their lots, and the other two have drastically reduced the price paid, county records show. Quit-claim deeds recorded Dec. 30 indicate that drivers Denny Hamlin and Tony Stewart and crew chief Greg Zipadelli gave their lots back to Sheridan Ridge Private Reserve LLC, the North Carolina company formed in 2006 to develop a NASCAR-themed community in the [Southwest Virginia] region. Deeds of correction were entered the same date for their property as well as lots owned by driver Elliott Sadler and FOX Sports personality and former crew chief Jeff Hammond, reducing the price of each lot from $323,205 to $50,000 - just enough to cover the lot release fee. "Certain infrastructure improvements to the Property were never completed," according to the deeds of correction, "and the value of the Property on the recording date was actually $50,000." In what has been a controversial project from the start, Sheridan Ridge selected a 1,400-acre site on the steep slopes of Walker and Little Brushy mountains to build a multi-million-dollar residential development with more than 500 houses and a 53-acre "village center" featuring shops and amenities.(Bristol Herald Courier)(2-23-2009)
- Stewart & Newman wreck in Happy Hour practice: #14-Tony Stewart and #39-Ryan Newman wrecked during the final Daytona 500 practice, tearing up Stewart-Haas Racing's two cars before Sunday's season-opening race. Newman, the defending Daytona 500 winner, lost his right rear tire Saturday and his car spun out of control. Stewart, his car owner, was trailing tightly around Daytona International Speedway and couldn't avoid running into him. Both drivers had to go to backup cars, and both were livid with Goodyear.
They blamed the tiremaker for providing a poor product that cost them their race cars before NASCAR's biggest event of the year.
"Same stuff that we always talk about every year, failures Goodyear has," said Stewart, who frequently takes the tiremaker to task. "I think that's part of their marketing campaign -- the more we talk about it, the more press they get. But, I think they forget it's supposed to be in a good way, not a bad way." Stewart, a two-time series champion, turned to the car he drove to a third-place finish in last week's Budweiser Shootout. But by going to a backup, he forfeited his fifth-place starting spot. Newman needed his second backup of Speedweeks: He wrecked two others since arriving in Daytona.(ESPN/AP)
AND Stewart is now driving Chassis No. 14-454, which is the car he drove to a third-place finish in last Saturday’s non-point Budweiser Shootout at Daytona. It is a carryover chassis from the former Haas CNC team, as it made its debut at Talladega in October 2007 with driver Johnny Sauter, who qualified 39th and led two laps before finishing 12th. It participated in winter testing at Daytona in 2008 before Scott Riggs piloted the car in the Daytona 500, where he qualified 27th and finished 21st. The #14 team was able to get some track time during final practice with Chassis No. 14-454. It will now be wrapped in Office Depot/Old Spice colors for the Daytona 500.
Ryan Newman is now driving Chassis No. 39-452. Its history consists of three restrictor-plate track tests in 2007, three Talladega races (fall 2007, spring and fall 2008) and one Daytona attempt. This car was tentatively slated as the backup for the #14 team if its Budweiser Shootout car was damaged in the race, hence the red paint. Once the #14 team’s Budweiser Shootout car emerged from the race unscathed, Chassis No. 39-452 was designated as a communal backup racecar for both the #14 and #39 teams should anything happen to either team during the remainder of Daytona Speedweeks. The #39 team was already using its designated backup car during final practice after crashing its primary racecar in the Gatorade Duel. The #39 team was unable to get Chassis No. 39-452 on the track during final practice. It will now be wrapped in U.S. Army colors for the Daytona 500.(True Speed Communication PR)(2-14-2009)
- Foyt to be at Daytona 500 to support Stewart's debut as owner: A.J. Foyt will attend the 51st running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona International Speedway in support of Tony Stewart, who will be making his Sprint Cup Series debut as a driver/owner with Stewart-Haas Racing and his #14 Office Depot/Old Spice Chevy in the season-opening race. When Stewart announced his plans to carry the #14 in honor of A.J. Foyt, the four-time Indianapolis 500 champion and 1972 Daytona 500 winner did an interview with Stewart on his SIRIUS Satellite Radio show, “Tony Stewart Live.” During the course of the interview, Stewart invited Foyt to be in the #14 team’s pits during the Daytona 500. Foyt accepted the invite and is making good on his word to attend.(A.J. Foyt Racing PR)(2-6-2009)
- Burger King to sponsor Stewart for 2 races: Burger King Corp. announced that the company has signed a multi-year sponsorship agreement with Tony Stewart and Stewart-Haas Racing. As part of the sponsorship agreement, BKC has two primary paint schemes on the #14 Sprint Cup car which will be featured at the July 4th Sprint Cup Series race at Daytona International Speedway and the September 27th race at Dover International Speedway. The company also has a personal services agreement with Stewart that includes appearances in commercials, restaurant promotions and at BKC sponsored events. "I'm extremely happy to welcome Burger King Corp. to the team and really proud to be associated with such a great brand," said Tony Stewart. "This demonstrates another important step in getting Stewart-Haas Racing ready for the season. I am a huge fan of Burger King restaurants, especially of the Whopper Sandwich, and even received my own customized BK Crown Card!" BKC will leverage the sponsorship both on and off the track, through comprehensive national marketing programs and promotions. "This sponsorship with Tony provides the perfect scenario to get back into NASCAR. His passion, both on and off the track, resonates very well with our core Burger King customers," said Russ Klein, president, global marketing, strategy and innovation. "We've long understood the power of NASCAR, and its millions of fans, and are looking forward to an exciting season." Additionally, BKC will be the exclusive quick service restaurant sponsor of Eldora Speedway in 2009, giving the company the chance to speak to fans on a grassroots level. Activation surrounding this sponsorship will include Burger King signage at the track, hospitality and other on-site activities.(Edelman/True Speed PR)(1-21-2009)

- ‘Smoke’ Rises from Fiesta Bowl Parade: No passing. That was the only rule Tony Stewart had to abide by in Saturday’s 38th Annual Fort McDowell Fiesta Bowl Parade presented by Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation. Thankfully, the two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion sat far enough away from the steering wheel of a Chevrolet Corvette that he couldn’t break the one rule just days into the New Year. Instead, the driver better known as “Smoke” sat atop the trunk of the Corvette convertible waving to the crowd along the 1.9-mile parade route, dutifully fulfilling one of his primary duties as grand marshal of this year’s Fiesta Bowl, which features a Monday night match-up between the Big Ten’s Ohio State and the Big 12’s University of Texas.
“That was like driver introductions at Indianapolis times 10,” said Stewart, referring to the ritual of riding in the back of a pickup truck around the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway before racing 42 other drivers for 400 miles. “This is a huge event and I’m just honored to be a part of it. It’s pretty cool to sort of venture outside our box a little bit and take in a game of this magnitude. With the racing season being what it is, getting away to see a college football game is kind of tough. When the Fiesta Bowl Committee called and asked if I was interested in being their grand marshal, I said, ‘As long as I get a ticket and a field pass to the game, I’m in.”
Stewart got that and then some. Announcing his presence in the parade were two brightly painted red #14 Chevrolet Impalas. One was emblazoned with Office Depot and the other with Old Spice, his co-primary sponsors for the 2009 racing season – Stewart’s first as a driver/owner with Stewart-Haas Racing, his new home after spending over a decade with Joe Gibbs Racing.
“Being grand marshal was also a great opportunity for our race team,” said Stewart, who is already an accomplished team owner in the U.S. Auto Club (USAC) and the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series, where his teams have won nine championships – seven in USAC and two in the World of Outlaws. “It’s not everyday that we’re able to crossover into other sporting events, so to be able to do that and bring my team and sponsors a little extra exposure was a no-brainer. Plus, we’re going to be back out here in April at Phoenix International Raceway, and hopefully the time we spend here in January brings a few more people out to the race track in April.”(SHR PR)(1-4-2009)
- Grubb to be Stewart's Crew Chief in 2009 UPDATE 2: Darien Grubb, engineering manager for Hendrick Motorsports' #5 and 88 Chevys, is the lead candidate for the crew chief position for Tony Stewart's #14 Chevy in 2009, sources close to Stewart-Haas Racing told ESPN.com on Saturday. Grubb, those same sources said, has been offered a contract. Stewart-Haas officials declined to comment Saturday. If Grubb ultimately opts to accept Stewart-Haas' offer, it would add yet another layer to the Hendrick/Stewart-Haas relationship. SHR will run Hendrick chassis and engines -- as Haas/CNC Racing currently does -- and having an established Hendrick disciple in-house would only increase the crucial line of communication between the two organizations.(ESPN.com)(8-16-2008)
UPDATE: Tony Stewart says he has signed a new crew chief for his Stewart-Haas racing #14 Chevy for next season but could not yet reveal who it is. Answering questions from race fans at Texas Motor Speedway Tuesday night, Stewart told the crowd the deal was done Monday evening. Stewart also says he has a verbal commitment from a sponsor for his second car and driver Ryan Newman, but the deal is not quite ready to be announced.(PRN's Garagepass)(8-28-2008)
UPDATE 2: Tony Stewart took a big step Friday toward upgrading the personnel at Stewart-Haas Racing next season. Darian Grubb will move from his role as engineering manager at Hendrick Motorsports to crew chief for #14-Stewart. "This is another key step in the equation of us getting on our feet next year and getting pointed in the right direction," Stewart said from the infield media center at Richmond International Raceway. "We've got a team leader now, somebody I feel very confident and comfortable with." "It's a very huge moment for me, everything I've looked forward to in my life," said Grubb, a native of Floyd, Va. "Just to get the opportunity with Tony, the capability he has as a driver and past champion, the future heading forward is very bright." Stewart has yet to name a crew chief for teammate #39-Ryan Newman. He declined to comment on whether Jay Frye, the general manager at Team Red Bull, would be coming to his team in a similar role. "When we have something to tell you, we'll tell you," he said.(ESPN.com)(9-5-2008)
- Office Depot/Old Spice to be co-primaries for Tony Stewart in the #14: Office Depot and Old Spice will serve as co-primary sponsors of Tony Stewart's #14 Chevrolet Impala SS Sprint Cup Series entry beginning in 2009. Officials from the two companies, as well as from Stewart-Haas Racing, made the announcement today near Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Office Depot, a leading global provider of office products and services, along with Old Spice, the No. 1 antiperspirant/deodorant stick and body wash choice for guys in the United States, have entered into multi-year agreements with Stewart-Haas Racing to sponsor the new entry driven by Stewart. In addition, both Office Depot and Old Spice are official NASCAR partners, successfully leveraging their relationships with NASCAR and their race team sponsorships as powerful marketing platforms for their brands.
"To have Office Depot and Old Spice throw their support behind me and this race team makes me extremely proud," said Stewart, who announced on July 10 that he had acquired a 50% stake in what is now known as Stewart-Haas Racing. "These are two partnerships that make a lot of sense. Office Depot focuses on small business owners, and with my role as a driver and owner next year, I'm both their spokesman and their customer - and I have been for years, because with two USAC teams, two World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series teams and three race tracks, you need a smooth-running office if you expect your business to run right. Old Spice has been with me for nine years, but our 10th year together is obviously going to be pretty big. This is a major commitment for the Old Spice brand, and we're going to make sure the success we've enjoyed over the years continues."
"Tony is a successful entrepreneur who has an impressive record as a small business owner. This is one of the reasons why he is such a
perfect fit for Office Depot," said Chuck Rubin, President of North American Retail for Office Depot. "We believe that Tony's passion to win and relentless pursuit of excellence truly embody the essence of the Office Depot brand and represent the commitments we make every single day to help our customers be successful."
Old Spice, a brand of Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble (P&G), is the official antiperspirant/deodorant of NASCAR, and its longstanding
partnership with Stewart has helped Old Spice become the leader in its category, as well as the male body wash category. "We've really valued our relationship with Tony and have been growing our partnership for over nine years now," said Alex Keith, P&G Beauty, General Manager, North America Deodorants. "It's been a great program for Old Spice, and when he came to us with the opportunity to make it
even bigger, we knew it was the right move. We're absolutely thrilled to be on board."
Also supporting Stewart's Office Depot/Old Spice effort in 2009 will be Chevrolet. The winner of 31 manufacturer's championships since coming to Sprint Cup in 1955, Chevrolet adds another powerful team to its already potent lineup with the addition of Stewart-Haas Racing.Putting an exclamation point on Stewart's new ride for 2009 is that his red and black Office Depot/Old Spice Chevrolet will carry the #14, made famous by the legendary A.J. Foyt. "Tony and I have been friends for a long time," said Foyt, a winner of four Indianapolis 500s, the 1972 Daytona 500 and the 1967 24 Hours of LeMans. "I think I first met him when he was running Midgets. It was quite a while ago so I don't actually remember where and when. A few times he drove the Silver Crown car I had with George Snider back in the mid-90s and I gave him his first test in an Indy car in Phoenix (in 1995) and he ran pretty quick as I recall. In addition to being quick, he's always told it how it is. I don't think there's anyone better to carry the #14."
Stewart has always admired what Foyt, currently an IRL IndyCar Series owner, accomplished in a driving career that began in 1957 and spanned such racing divisions as Indy car, NASCAR, USAC and sports car racing. "A.J. has always been my hero and will always be No. 1 on my hero list, with the best part being that we are really good friends," Stewart said. "We obviously have a tremendous amount of respect for one another. I remember him calling me after I won my first Cup championship in 2002 and I remember how much it meant to have him call that night and congratulate me. We really do have similar pasts and carry a lot of characteristics that are the same. He is one of the greatest icons in racing worldwide and to be compared to him in any way is always a huge honor. We came up through the same types of cars, from Sprint Cars to Midgets, and then I went to the IRL and moved into NASCAR. A.J. ran Indy cars for a long time and still came into stock car racing and was successful. There aren't a lot of guys that can go from car to car and still win races. It was something that A.J. was really good at and something that we have been very fortunate to replicate. He has given a lot back to racing and has been one of its biggest supporters. Without guys like him, guys like me wouldn't have had a chance to succeed."(True Speed Communication PR), see all the other past news/rumors on the #66 Team News and Links page AND no word if the #14 will be the #66 or #70 team, supposedly Stewart's 2nd team is looking to use the #4.(7-25-2008)

- Stewart Joins Haas to form Stewart-Haas Racing in 2009: During a press conference at Chicagoland Speedway Thursday, Tony Stewart announced that he is joining with Haas CNC Racing to form Stewart-Haas Racing in 2009.
Some notes from the press conference:
Stewart and Joe Custer, General Manager of Haas Racing, appeared together to make the announcment.
Stewart said that owning World of Outlaw and USAC teams fed his interest in ownership in NASCAR. Ownership is now a side of him that he enjoys, that is important to him and that he wants to do the rest of his life
Stewart was offered half of the team in the deal. He did not say if he purchased his half or if it was given to him as a part of the deal.
A driver decision for the second car has not been made. The team is looking at who is available and will make a decision later.
There were no sponsor announcements or car number announcements [Stewart reportedly would like the #14 because it was A.J. Foyt's number].
There are no plans to move the team to Indianapolis. It's critical for NASCAR teams to be close to Charlotte.(7-10-2008)
