- Larry Foyt done driving - Foyt Auction news: Larry Foyt, who ran 66 NASCAR Busch Series races during the 2001/2002 seasons and 23 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series races in 2003/2004, has not been seen since except for the past three Indianapolis 500 mile IndyCar races. It seems father, A.J. Foyt has recently decided it is time for Larry to step up and take a lead in the family business whether it's what he wants or not. “(A.J.) knew I didn’t want to quit driving, so that’s hard,” Larry said. “But, realistically, am I going to get a good ride? Probably not. At first it was tough for me to swallow, because I didn’t want to quit driving. But in the long run it will be a good opportunity. I’m just learning right now, hanging out. I certainly don’t want to be the boss’ son coming in here trying to run things. I’m just watching how A.J. wants things done, watch our people and other teams. We just have to start taking our operation to the next level." Complete public auction liquidation for A.J. Foyt Racing, Mooresville, N.C. will be August 23 - August 27, 2006. - Foyt ok after bee attack: A.J. Foyt was able to go to his office Monday, just two days after being stung by nearly 200 bees at his ranch in Hempstead, Texas. Foyt spokeswoman Anne Fornoro told The Associated Press that the 70-year-old, four-time Indianapolis 500 winner was driving a bulldozer Saturday, clearing brush, when he apparently stirred up a nest of bees. She said Foyt jumped off the bulldozer and started to run for a nearby stream, but he tripped and the bees swarmed onto him. He was stung dozens of times on the face and upper body before finally scrambling into the water. Fornoro said a man working nearby called 911. Foyt was treated at the scene, but refused a trip to the hospital. "He says he was stung in the mouth, the ears, the throat, all over his face and that his eyes are really swollen, but he's doing OK," Fornoro said. Foyt is owner of an Indy Racing League team with his grandson, A.J. Foyt IV, as the driver.(ESPN.com/AP)(8-9-2005)
- Larry Foyt injured in Indy 500 wreck: former Nextel Cup and Busch Series driver, Larry Foyt was released from Methodist Hospital Monday afternoon and is expected to fly home to Charlotte Tuesday. Foyt was taken to the hospital Sunday following his crash in the Indianapolis 500 on lap 15. Foyt’s #41 ABC Supply/Dallara/Toyota spun entering turn one spinning backwards into the SAFER Barrier. Foyt sustained a compressed vertebra and a chipped disk in his lower spine. He was fitted with a back brace on Monday and released. He is expected to make a full recovery which could take up to six weeks.(Foyt Racing)(5-31-2005)
- Larry Foyt to run Daytona ARCA race, BAM Plans still in the works: Fulltiltpoker.com, an interactive poker gaming Web site, has signed with Foyt Racing as the primary sponsor of the #16 Dodge. The car will be driven by Larry Foyt in the Advance Discount Auto Parts 200 at Daytona International Speedway Saturday, Feb. 12th. The ARCA race will be the first foray into motorsports for Fulltiltpoker.com which sees a great opportunity to bring its online poker experience to racing fans."I'm excited to be back behind the wheel at Daytona," said Foyt. "I've only driven in one ARCA race and that was over four years ago. I've learned a lot since then so I'm really looking forward to competing next weekend." Foyt put together the one-time race package for his father A.J. Foyt's team with support from BAM Racing team owners Beth Ann and Tony Morgenthau. The Morgenthaus are trying to secure sponsorship to field a car for Foyt in one of NASCAR's divisions this year. Foyt has also signed two associate sponsors for this event: Demons Cycles (www.demonscycles.com), builder of custom motorcycles, and Victory Sportswear (www.victorysportswear.com a full line apparel company that offers screen printing, embroidery and ad specialty items to local race teams across the country.(A.J. - Andretti, A.J. Foyt and the #14? looks like he new #14 ppc Racing team is listed as being owned by A.J. Foyt, who ran the #14 for a few races in 2004 after running it fulltime for a few years. Driver John Andretti asked Foyt, his Godfather, if the team could use the number and got permission as Foyt had no plans to run any more races in 2004. So Andretti can use a provisional, but the #14 is 52nd in Owners Points standings and with 59 teams/drivers/cars in the Atlanta Entry list, it is unlikely the provisionals will fall that far down the list.(10-29-2004)
- Foyt Plans Limited Return To Cup; #14 Cup team and IRL owner, A.J. Foyt said last Saturday that he will run a few Nextel Cup races in the 2004 season and then try to put some sponsorship packages together for a few runs in 2005. Those races are still to be determined. Says Foyt: "I'm not through with the Cup cars just yet, but we're still looking for some backing. I don't have any plans for Larry Foyt until we can put something together."(Insider Racing News), Foyt practiced the past two days at Indy in the #52 Ware Racing Dodge, but wrecked Tuesday, and they packed it up as they had no backup.(7-21-2004)
- Stewart / Foyt wreck at Indy - are OK: NASCAR drivers #20-Tony Stewart and #52-Larry Foyt, in the Ware Racing Dodge, crashed today -- but neither was hurt -- during testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for next month's Brickyard 400. Stewart returned to the track in a different car. Stewart, fourth in the Nextel Cup driver standings, damaged the right rear of his car when he hit the wall in the second turn. Foyt hit the wall in the first turn, damaging the car's right side. He did not return to the track because his team brought only one car for the session leading to the Aug. 8 race.(Indianapolis Star/AP)(7-20-2004)
- What's up with Larry Foyt? MORE: Once again, Larry Foyt will perform as A.J. IV’s spotter, this time at Richmond. Foyt had planned to attend the race along with some people from his NASCAR Nextel Cup crew. When Foyt IV heard of those plans, he asked Larry to spot for him. “Larry did a great job for me at Texas,” said Foyt IV. “I know he’d rather just watch the race and have fun so I really appreciate him doing this.” Larry Foyt’s next planned start in his father’s Nextel Cup car is the Brickyard 400 at Indy unless sponsorship can be secured before that event.(Foyt Racing PR)(6-23-2004)
- So..what's up with Larry Foyt? part time Cup driver, #14-Larry Foyt, who competed in the Indy 500 two weeks ago, isn't driving in the Bombardier 500, but he is working during the race. Larry is the spotter this weekend for his nephew, A.J. Foyt IV. Team owner A.J. Foyt Jr. asked Larry to help out. "I think it's better to have a driver serve as the spotter," A.J. said. "Drivers see things in a different perspective and are better able to relate that information to fellow drivers."(Dallas Morning News)(6-10-2004)
- Don't forget Foyt at Indy: Larry Foyt, part time in the Cup Series also practiced at Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Indy 500, #41-Larry Foyt ran at 207.982mph, 40th out of the 41 cars who practiced on Monday.(Indianapolis Star)(5-11-2004)
- Foyt looking to do the Indy/Coca-Cola 600 double too, needs a sponsor: Larry Foyt will be heading to Indianapolis on Sunday, May 9th to spend the month of May preparing the car for his first attempt to run in the Indy 500. Foyt Racing is still in search of a sponsor for the event, and would also be interested in running the "Memorial Day Double" when a sponsor is found. There will be three Foyt's at Indy for the first time ever, AJ (as owner), Anthony (14 Conseco) and Larry. “It’s incredible,” Larry said. “I have always said that Indy was the reason I wanted to drive race cars. Every time I go there I am reminded of that--the place just gives me chills. By far it will be the biggest thing I’ve done in my life. I am thrilled beyond words.” Any one interested in sponsoring Foyt Racing in the Indy 500 or the Memorial Day Double should contact Foyt Racing in Mooresville, NC [704-799-1414](PR)(5-6-2004)
- Larry Foyt to run the Indy 500: If all goes according to plan, there will be two Foyts competing in the Indianapolis 500-Mile race this year. Larry Foyt, son of A.J. Foyt, will attempt to compete in his first Indianapolis 500 driving for his father. It will be the first
Indy car race for the 27-year-old college graduate who is currently driving for his father on the NASCAR Nextel Cup circuit. A.J. Foyt IV, grandson of Indy's first four-time winner, finished 18th in his Indy 500 debut last year and is currently driving the #14 Conseco Dallara/Toyota in the IRL IndyCar Series. Larry Foyt tested at the historic 2.5-mile track today during the IRL's Rookie Orientation Program. He ran a total of 59 laps and reached speeds over 210mph. "It's the coolest day of my life," Foyt said after stepping out of the
team's back-up car, the #14T Conseco Dallara/Toyota. "It was everything I thought it would be. This is such a special place. I've been coming here since I was born and when I was growing up I used to wonder, Can I do it? And today I got to do it. We ran 210 and I know I
can go faster. We had a lot of downforce on the car because my dad just wanted me to get comfortable. "I had to get the 'stock car line' out of me," Foyt said. "You run quite a different line in the stock car than you do these cars. The stock car is much heavier and the engine is in the front so you drive it so much different. The Indy car feels really good out there. There were a lot of things that were new to me. I had never run a sequential shift or the pit lane speed limiter. There's a lot of electronics that we don't have in the stock car. Today was ideal because there was no pressure so I could take my time adapting. I know that it'll get harder once we start trimming it out but we're pretty happy with the way things went. I had a blast!"
He will join Foyt IV for the IRL IndyCar Series' Open Test at the Speedway this week. Originally set for Tuesday and Wednesday, the test
has been rescheduled for Wednesday and Thursday to avoid the cold temperatures and strong winds predicted for tomorrow. A.J. Foyt was pleased with his son's performance. "I was happy. He could have gone faster but I didn't want him to push it. The idea of today was to just get acclimated because it is so different from what he's been used to driving. He had tested an Indy car at Colorado and Texas about five years ago and passed his rookie test but then I put him in the stock cars. He never gave up his hope of driving in the Indy 500 though. I never wanted any of my kids to race because it is such a tough sport, but when that's all they want to do, what can you say? Now I have two of them racing, but the way I feel about that is it's their life to live. I'm just glad I can help them out."(Foyt Racing PR)(4-27-2004)
- Larry Foyt looking to run the Indy 500 UPDATE: #14-Larry Foyt, whose Nextel Cup plans have been cut back by sponsor woes, is set to drive an Indy Racing League machine next week with an eye on competing in the Indianapolis 500.(Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
AND A.J. Foyt still doesn't know who will be in the team's second car for the Indy 500 but said his son, Larry, whose NASCAR career has fizzled, is a possibility.(Indianapolis Star)(4-23-2004)
UPDATE: Larry Foyt, the son of four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt, said Friday that he will test a car Monday at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, with an eye toward competing in next month's 500. The second-year NASCAR Nextel Cup driver will drive one of the Indy cars being prepared for his nephew, A.J. Foyt IV, who will be trying to earn a spot in his second consecutive 500. A.J. Foyt started a record 35 500s in his Hall of Fame career, winning in 1961, 1964, 1967 and 1977. "I've been to that race (the 500) every year of my life. That race is why I wanted to be a race car driver," said the 27-year-old Larry Foyt during NASCAR's event at Talladega Superspeedway. His only Indy Racing League experience is testing at Texas Motor Speedway and Pikes Peak (Colo.) International Raceway a few years ago. Foyt spent two seasons in NASCAR's Busch Series before moving to Winston Cup, as it was called, last year. His career includes a season in the American Speed Association and 12 starts in the U.S. Auto Club's Formula 2000 division. Foyt's Indy test will be part of the IRL's rookie orientation program that includes Ed Carpenter, Mark Taylor, Kosuke Matsuura and Marty Roth. The league will have its open test for all 500 hopefuls Tuesday and Wednesday at the Speedway. Because of his status as a Nextel Cup driver, Foyt will not be required to pass the IRL's four-stage rookie program to compete in next month's 500. He will be graded by his father, who at times has a more stringent standard. "I'm going to give him some laps, but (running in May) is not for sure yet," A.J. Foyt said Friday by phone from Houston. "We've got to see how things go." A.J. Foyt's teams are struggling for sponsorship support in the IRL and NASCAR. The team owner is hoping that a financial deal can be put together for one of a handful of drivers that are available. The only other Nextel Cup driver expected to participate in the 500 is Robby Gordon, who will be driving a car from his own team.(Indianapolis Star News)(4-24-2004)
- Ganassi Racing and Foyt Racing penalized points for confiscated cars UPDATE Sabates not happy: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates and A.J. Foyt Racing were issued multiple penalties as a result of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series cars from those teams being confiscated March 26 during pre-event inspection at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. The #42 Texaco Havoline Dodge entry of Chip Ganassi with Felix Sabates for driver Jamie McMurray was confiscated for a rear window opening that exceeded the diagonal specification and was in violation of Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-Q (Any determination by NASCAR Officials that parts and/or equipment in the Event do not conform to NASCAR rules) of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Rule Book.
As a result, owner Chip Ganassi was penalized with a loss of 25 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship car owner points; McMurray with a loss of 25 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship driver points; and crew chief Donnie Wingo was placed on probation until Dec. 31.
The #14 Dodge entry of A.J. Foyt Racing for driver Larry Foyt was confiscated for a non-approved roof that did not fit the car templates and was in violation of Section 12-4-A (Actions detrimental to stock car racing) and 12-4-Q (Any determination by NASCAR Officials that parts and/or equipment in the Event do not conform to NASCAR rules) of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Rule Book. Owner A.J. Foyt was penalized with a loss of 25 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship car owner points; Larry Foyt with a loss of 25 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series championship driver points; and crew chief Keith Koppenal was placed on probation until Dec. 31.
Both cars have been held at the NASCAR Research and Development Center since they were confiscated. NASCAR will release the chassis and engines to the teams this week, but the #42 car body and #14 greenhouse will be retained at the center and not returned to the teams.
“The process of gathering data from the two cars we confiscated has been completed,” NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Director John Darby said. “In addition to collecting the data we needed, we have been able to refine the overall process so that we have the ability to react very quickly to this type of situation in the future, specifically if this should occur in the final 10 races.”
McMurray’s championship points total will be adjusted to 939 points as a result of the penalty and will drop from 13th to 14th in the championship standings. Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates also will be adjusted to 939 points with the 25-point penalty and fall to 14th in the owners’ championship standings.
Foyt’s championship points total will be adjusted to 194 points as a result of the penalty, and will drop him from 40th to 44th in the championship standings. A.J. Foyt Racing also will be adjusted to 194 points with the 25-point penalty and drop to 46th in the owners’ championship standings.(NASCAR PR)(4-20-2004)
UPDATE: Chip Ganassi Racing part-owner Felix Sabates lashed out at NASCAR Tuesday for stripping 25 driver points from Jamie McMurray as a result of his car being confiscated March 26 during the race weekend at Bristol. The violation was similar to those of the teams of Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch last season, which resulted in NASCAR confiscating both of those cars. Stewart did not have any points taken. Busch did. However, it was the only Cup race Busch entered in 2003, making the penalty virtually meaningless. "This is pure, unadulterated (BS)," Sabates fumed. "You have got to be consistent in this sport. NASCAR is not too consistent right now. "(Joe) Gibbs (Stewart's owner) didn't get any points taken from him when this happened to Tony last year and Tony was in the hunt for a championship." Sabates said he and primary owner Chip Ganassi asked for an explanation of the penalty from NASCAR President Mike Helton but didn't receive a satisfactory response. "The only sorry excuse they had was that they took points from Kyle Busch. Well, big (expletive deleted) deal. He was running one race and the penalty came out after the damn season was over," Sabates said. "We are in the middle of a championship battle with an even greater priority this season with the 26-race deal and we lose points for the same violation as someone else and they didn't lose points. That is (BS)." Sabates was also livid at the slow response time of the penalty, which came three weeks since the cars were taken. "They told us that day what was wrong. What the hell have they been doing?" he said. "This is just sorry--- management, sorry management."(ThatsRacin.com)(4-21-2004)
- #14 Crew Chief Fined: Keith Koppenal, crew chief for the #14 Dodge driven by Larry Foyt in the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series, has been fined $1,000 for a rule infraction that occurred this past weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, NASCAR officials announced today. Koppenal was found in violation of Section 12-4-A (actions detrimental to stock car racing) and Section 12-4-U (any violation of the fuel cell or fuel cell container specifications) of the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Rule Book, because of an oversized container. The violation was found during the weekend's initial inspection process, on April 2.(NASCAR PR)(4-7-2004)
- #14 Gets Some Help: Several associate sponsors have been signed for this weekend for the Samsung/RadioShack 500 at Texas Motor Speedway for the #14 A.J. Foyt Racing Dodge driven by Larry Foyt. Smith Chrysler-Dodge, located in Waxahachie, TX will be featured on the hood of the car. Ft. Worth Harley-Davidson will be on the car's rear quarter panels while Texas Harley-Davidson will
be on the car's TV panel. Insurance Auto Auctions will be featured on the rear deck lid. IAA is a leading provider of automotive and
specialty salvage services in the U.S. providing cost effective turnkey solutions to process and sell total-loss and recovered theft vehicles. Foyt is attempting to compete in his first race since the Subway 400 Feb. 22 at North Carolina Speedway where he finished 32nd. He returned to the cockpit of the A.J. Foyt Racing Dodge for the first time when he tested at TMS March 16-17. Team owner, A.J. Foyt will miss the first two days of action at TMS because he will be working with his Indy car team and grandson A.J. Foyt IV who is testing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this Saturday.(Foyt Racing PR)(4-1-2004)
- #42 and #14 Car Seized by NASCAR; #14 Team Goes Home RESPONSE: NASCAR on Friday morning confiscated the #42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge driven by Jamie McMurray, when it failed to meet the X-measurement of the rear window. The violation is similar to those made by the teams of Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch last season, which resulted in NASCAR confiscating both cars. NASCAR spokesman Mize Zizzo said NASCAR will tow the No. 42 and No. 14 back to its research and development center in Concord, NC, for evaluation. And additional penalties will be forthcoming after the race weekend, Zizzo said. Following the inspection process, the car was placed alongside the NASCAR hauler and the team brought out a backup car. The backup car has never been run. "You definitely don't bring your best aero car to Bristol, but the first time NASCAR checked the X-measurement - the same measurement they got Tony Stewart for and Kyle Busch - it showed to be too much," said team manager Andy Graves. "Right now we're trying to figure out what happened, if it was a mistake on our part or if a mistake made in measuring the first time. We're going to have them measure it again." Graves said the #41 and #40 Dodges, driven by Chip Ganassi Racing teammates Casey Mears and Sterling Marlin, respectively, both measured correctly. The X-measurement is taken diagonally from each the top corner of the rear window to the bottom corner of the opposite side. "It shows three-quarters (of an inch) more than any car we've ever had, so we're kind of baffled by it," Graves said.
#14 Seized too: Larry Foyt's #14 Dodge car failed to pass inspection a first time and his crew worked on the problem areas before returning to the inspection line. When the Dodge failed the final time, the car was seized by officials. The Foyt team had only a speedway car on hand as a backup, so they decided not to make a qualifying attempt for Sunday's Food City 500.(ThatsRacin.com)
AND The #42 Havoline Dodge was confiscated during the first inspection at Bristol Motor Speedway on Friday for being five-eighths of an inch off of the X-measurement. NASCAR uses the X-measurement -- that gauges the length of the rear window from corner to corner to determine the off-set of the decklid to the roof. "The car was in line this morning and they just pulled it to the side," says Ganassi team manager Andy Graves. "I don't understand. We had to make updates, but the roofline and the decklid is the same as last year." When driver Jamie McMurray arrived at the track Friday morning, he described the situation as "puzzling". He added that it did not make sense to bring an illegal car to the track, especially at Bristol where little if any aerodynamic advantage can be gleaned. "We raced this car like seven times last year," McMurray says. "So it's a bit confusing." Crew chief Donnie Wingo agreed that the situation was "confusing" since this was the primary short track car the team used last year. "I'm just frustrated," Wingo says. "At least we have another good car in the trailer and we'll have one sent from the shop this afternoon."(FoxSports/Sporting News)(3-26-2004)
#42 Team Response: Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates has issued the following statement regarding NASCAR's seizure
of Jamie McMurray's No. 42 Texaco/Havoline Dodge during inspection Friday morning at Bristol Motor Speedway.
"This is an unfortunate situation that happened today at Bristol with the 42 car," Chip Ganassi said. "This is a short track car from last
season that we put a new body on during the off season. If there was an error made in the body shop on our part, we will get it rectified.
We look forward to working closely with NASCAR to make sure this issue is resolved in a timely manner." As a result, McMurray and the Texaco/Havoline were forced to unload the backup car, chassis #214. McMurray finished 11th last year at Bristol in the spring race and finished third last August.(Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates PR)(3-26-2004)
- Foyt at Bristol and Texas UPDATE: #14-Larry Foyt will attempt to make the Nextel Cup races at Bristol and Texas. The team is still looking for a sponosr for both races.(3-23-2004)
UPDATE: After nearly a month off, Larry Foyt returned to the cockpit of the A.J. Foyt Racing Dodge when he tested March 16th and 17th at Texas Motor Speedway. Foyt plans to compete in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend and the Samsung/RadioShack 500 on April 4th. "Our test at Texas went pretty decent," Foyt said. "We weren't the fastest car there but we were only two to three tenths off guys like Bill Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. We didn't do any qualifying runs, we were in race trim the whole time. On the second day, the wind came up in the afternoon so we quit early. We only had the one car and we were happy with where we were running so I didn't want to take any chances." Foyt is running a limited schedule this year because the team is without primary sponsorship. "We've been looking but it's been a challenge in this economy," said team owner A.J. Foyt. "Right now I'm running Larry out of my pocket basically, so we have to pick and choose our races. I hope we can find a major sponsor soon." Foyt's son competed in his first Daytona 500 in February and finished 28th. He started 41st and had quickly moved into the top 25 but then he had to pit with a misfire in the power plant. The team's engine specialist diagnosed the problem as a loose spark plug wire which was fixed and Foyt returned to the race. He competed in the next race at Rockingham, N.C. and finished 32nd after struggling with the car's handling. "It was a tough weekend but we brought the car home in one piece." Foyt is currently 43rd in the driver standings after competing in just
two of the five races run to date.(Foyt Racing PR)(3-24-2004)
- Foyt seeking sponsor: Despite the lack of a primary sponsor, #14-Larry Foyt plans to return to the Cup tour at TMS next month. The team owned by his father, open-wheel legend A.J. Foyt of Houston, has not entered the #14 Dodge in the past two events. And Foyt does not plan to enter this weekend's event at Darlington Raceway. "We got to talking and I said if we're going to try and race a couple of races, I'd really like to run Texas," said Foyt, a graduate of TCU. "We had a bad run at Rockingham [32nd on Feb. 22]. I said if we can't test on these new tires and get caught up, I don't want to go run around last all day. Let's test somewhere and try to do it right."(Fort Worth Star Telegram)(3-17-2004)
- #14 gets a sponsor for the 500 UPDATE: The LPGA Tour will sponsor Larry Foyt's #14 Dodge in Sunday's Daytona 500, the first time the top women's professional golf circuit has advertised on a car in NASCAR's biggest race.(Fort Worth Star Telegram)(2-14-2004)
UPDATE: Model-shoot photos of LPGA players Laura Diaz, Cristie Kerr and Natalie Gulbis will adorn the car driven by Larry Foyt in the Daytona 500. The one-race sponsorship deal is part of the LPGA's effort to increase visibility. Given the way the pictures look, it's clear they're trying to show off some of their players in the most flattering light possible. Like NASCAR, the LPGA is based in Daytona. Diaz and Kerr will have their pictures on the front hood of Foyt's car and Gulbis' will be on the hood of the trunk.(Greenville News/AP)(2-15-2004)
- Foyt to attempt the Daytona 500: A.J. Foyt's #14 team is looking for a sponsor and will attempt to qualify for the 500. Foyt's son Larry will drive the car, with engines leased from Evernham Motorsports.(USA Today/AP)(2-6-2004)
- Holm Leaves Foyt: been told that #14 Crew Chief, Ben Holm, left Foyt Racing to join Penske working on #2 car in the shop. No word on the #14 Team Status, they have not tested in Daytona either this or last week.(1-14-2004)
- Foyt and the #14 to return: hearing that while Harrah's is no longer the sponsor of the #14 A.J. Foyt Racing team and driver Larry Foyt, the team plans to run at least the first three races of 2004, the Daytona 500, Rockingham and Las Vegas.(1-2-2004)
- Harrah's gone? UPDATE: hearing Harrah's Casino will not be back as the sponsor for the #14 A.J. Foyt Racing Dodge and driver Larry Foyt in 2004.(11-25-2003)
UPDATE: hearing there is a good chance the team will NOT return to Cup in 2004.(11-28-2003)
- Mark Green in the #14 for the next two races: Mark Green will drive A.J. Foyt Racing's #14 Harrah's Dodge this weekend at Lowe's Motor Speedway and at Martinsville next weekend. Green replaces rookie Larry Foyt, who continues to suffer from a kidney bruise suffered in an accident at Talladega two weeks ago, according to a Foyt team spokesman. Doctors advised Foyt to sit out the next two weeks, meaning he'll return to the car for Atlanta. Green has served the past couple seasons as a driver coach and consultant to Foyt. Mark Green's regular job this season has been as a shock specialist and driver coach at Akins Motorsports, working with promising newcomer Kasey Kahne. He has also made three Busch Series starts.(NASCAR.com)(10-9-2003)
- #14/50 Foyt Racing crew shakeup? UPDATE 2: hearing that the #14/50 crew chief, Craig "Butch" Lamoreux, General Manager Mike Chase and Foyt Racing have parted ways. Have not heard who will take over the jobs.(9-19-2003)
UPDATE: Ben Holm is now the crew chief of the #14/50 team and driver Larry Foyt.(9-29-2003)
UPDATE 2: Larry Foyt, who suffered a crack in his left wrist and bruised right kidney in an accident in last Sunday's Winston Cup race at Talladega, Ala., will have part-time Busch Series driver Mark Green standing by this weekend should he need a relief driver for his #14 Harrah's Dodge. In addition, the A.J. Foyt Racing team added Winston Cup veteran Greg Conner as its new crew chief, at least in the short-term. - #14 to #50...revisited: keep getting asked why the #14 Foyt Racing team and driver Larry Foyt changed to #50. Asnwered this last week and can be found below....also some more: Car owner A.J. Foyt switched Larry Foyt's car number from 14 to 50 the past two weeks. Why? Well, Foyt wants his son to make the Brickyard 400 next Sunday at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Thanks to NASCAR's provisional system, Foyt's No. 14 is down to one provisional.(Patriot News), it failed them last week as qualifying was rained out and the team had no attempts on the #50, so it missed the race when it would had made it with the #14. But this week at Pocono, it worked as the #50 had to use a provisional to make the race and still has 3 left on the #50. Also in this weeks Winston Cup Scene, Foyt says they may run both cars later in the season, so this gets them some owners points and attempts on the car, plus the #14 being so deep in owners points [42nd] it was no big advantage.(7-26-2003)
