Speed Channel has picked up an option for eight additional episodes of “Back in the Day” with Dale Earnhardt Jr. The 30-minute program, which airs Mondays at 9:00pm/et on the Charlotte-based network, is a journey through the history of NASCAR with an emphasis on the 1970s. “This is the right show on the right network at the right time,” Speed vice president of programming Robert Ecker said in an e-mail. “The decision to place the full-season order was a virtual no-brainer. Dale Jr.’s obvious affection for the material and his clever approach to presenting it instantly and understandably struck a responsive chord with the audience.
