NASCAR Cup Series teams will run a familiar Goodyear Racing Eagle tire setup at Richmond Raceway this weekend, with the same left- and right-side tires that were used at Martinsville Speedway in March and North Wilkesboro Speedway last month.
This short-track tire setup made its debut at Martinsville last fall and is designed to offer increased grip and lap time fall-off over the course of a run. The right-side tire has also been used at Bowman Gray Stadium and Phoenix Raceway this season.
“Cup Series teams are familiar with this setup and already have some data to help plan their strategies this weekend,” said Rick Heinrich, Goodyear NASCAR product manager. “While this is the first time we’ve brought this left-side tire to Richmond, it’s a proven tire that has performed well on similar short tracks. The track surface at Richmond is known for producing high tire wear and lap-time fall-off, so tire management will be critical.”
The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series also races Friday evening at Richmond, where teams will run the same left- and right-side tire combinations they used in last month’s races at North Wilkesboro and Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
Teams in both series will have Goodyear Racing Eagle wet weather tires available should weather conditions require them.
