Jim Long leaves as crew chief after Richmond, Buddy Barnes and Scott Lepage will share the duties for now. After Gordon goes to the #31 thru Watkins Glen, Wallace is told he will be in the car for the rest of 2001. Robby Gordon almost won at Sears Point in the car and is rumored as the full time driver after Daytona, which Wallace will drive. Ted Musgrave ran the car at Pocono(June). Tim Brewer was the crew chief at the beginning of the season but left after Texas, Jim Long takes over. Crew Chief Bobby Kennedy left to go to Michael Waltrip’s BGN team. Mike Wallace officially named the driver. Michael Waltrip leaves to go to a 3rd DEI team. Team will switch to Ford AFTER the 2000 season, from Chevy’s. Was considering Dodge but decided on Ford. Smith’s CTS team will switch to Dodge from Ford. Nations Rent signed thru 2001. Jim Smith bought into the team mid-May 2000, then in July has bought former owner Jim Mattei out and now owns the team outright. #2 CTS owner, Jimmy Smith teamed up with Jim Mattei mid-season 2000

Mike Bliss attempted three races (Daytona, Chicago and NHIS) and missed all three, left after NHIS. Will use DEI engine at Daytona. Kenny Wallace leaves after missing Sears Point. Rumor has Mike Bliss back in the car at Daytona and for the rest of the year and also Robby Gordon has been mentioned as a possible driver after Daytona. After the Coca Cola 600, the team switched to PME-Pro Motors. Sauer/Duke’s Mayonaise comes aboard for 15 races, starting at the Coca Cola 600. Kenny Wallace is the new driver for 2001, signing a 3 year deal. The team came close to shutting down before Sauer came aboard. Mike Bliss replaced by Wallace. Viagra/Pfizer left for the #6 car and Mark Martin. Pontiac will stay as the Manufacturer. Dodson signed thru 2005

Kevin Harvick moves to the #29(was #3) after Earnhardt’s death. Harvick was to debut at Atlanta in March. No word on a crew chief yet.

    Gil Martin takes over at Rockingham for Royce McGee as crew chief. Jeff Green will drive for Gordon at Homestead, Gordon has a commitment in a off road race in Baja. Mike Skinner leaves after the Sept Dover race to have surgery and heal for his new team (#4 Kodak Chevy) and the 2002 season. Gordon takes over at Kansas and may be the driver for 2002. Lowes leaves at the end of 2001 (to the #48) and Cingular moves over from the #01 Dodge. Looks like Lowes will stay on the car now. Hear Top Choice Lumber will be on the car in the first half, unknown in the 2nd half. Lowes made a surprise move and is leaving the team with 2 years left on their contract. Royce McGee will be the new crew chief in 2001. Larry McReynolds will leave but to go to TV not start his own team. Still hearing rumors McReynolds could leave to start his own team, possibly with Ernie Irvan, but that has quieted down and expect to see McReynolds stay with RCR. Skinner seems safe to stay and have heard nothing of Lowes leaving
