Here is little follow up on the Mayfield/Andretti/Rudd incident: First off, Mayfield was two cars behind Andretti during the wreck. They were all called into the NASCAR trailer. Andretti and crew chief Tony Furr were all yelling at Mayfield for wrecking him. Mayfield sat there and laughed, then Gary Nelson, NASCAR director, asked Mayfield for his word on the subject. Mayfield said, “Gary, go talk to Ricky (Rudd)”, So Neslon went and got Ricky, who came in to the trailer, and Nelson asked Rudd if he knew anything about the wreck, Rudd said “Yea, I was racing John, and I accidentally got into him, I was racing for position”(an abridged version from a source)(7-16-97)
