Rick Hendrick, who is ill with leukemia, has begun planning to dismantle his mammoth racing operation, according to GM sources. According to one possible plan, Jeff Gordon and crew chief Ray Evernham would be allowed to buy their team, Ricky Craven would be allowed to buy his team, and Terry Labonte and crew chief Gary DeHart would be allowed to buy their team. The engine department, according to one plan, would be spun off into an independent company headed by chief engine man Randy Dorton, and the chassis/car-building department would also be spun off into a business run by head chassis man Eddie Dickerson.(JournalNow).
