UPDATE: Robby Gordon fans: Rumor has it that Hiro Matsushita will be retiring after the Japan CART race – and Robby Gordon has already been signed to take the seat of the Toyota powered Champcar from Long Beach forward through the end of the season. Still no idea if he’ll race in the Bud Shootout, but it looks doubtful(1-20-98) – Arciero-Wells Championship Auto Racing Team and Precision Preparation, Inc. (PPI) announced today it has signed Robby Gordon as a test and engine development driver and consultant. Gordon, of Orange County Calif., will debut with the team at Championship Auto Racing Team’s (CART) third annual spring training at Metro-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex which will be conducted February 3 through February 5, 1998. Gordon also will compete in selected events in the 1998 FedEx Championship Series with the sponsors for this entry to be announced at a later date.(MCI Racing, thanks Sharon)(1-27-98)
