Had the old provisional rules been in effect, both David Green & Darrell Waltrip would have made the Daytona 500 per speed (37th & 38th spots), and Steve Grissom & Brett Bodine would have been off the old 42 car grid. 18 of the 43 starters are career non-winners on the WC Tour. All 4 of the announced Rookie of the Year candidates made the race.
