“If the Wood brothers team lands Elliott Sadler as its driver for 1999, it doesn’t plan to launch a second team with Matt Kenseth, because running one rookie, much less two, would be enough of a headache. The Woods say they’re close to a deal with Sadler, which would be a coup for Ford Motor Company. However, the Woods might not get Sadler, who is also in the running for a ride with Rick Hendrick. Sources close to Sadler say he might be leaning toward the Hendrick option, which would keep him in General Motors’ Chevrolet camp. That option might be a fourth Hendrick team. The prospect of a fourth team has been raised, with the possibility of that team running out of shops next to Jeff Gordon’s. Earlier in the season, there had been talk of a Quaker State-sponsored Winston Cup car for Jack Sprague, the Truck racer, but it seems that those plans have fallen through.”(JournalNow/Mike Mulhern) (08-31-1998)
