Blue Ridge Motorsports officials announced tentative plans for the upcoming 1999 season which include a ten race schedule for the first year NASCAR team. Securing sponsorship from Power Monitors Inc. out of Harrisonburg, VA has put the team in a position to move forward with the next steps to racing in the Busch Grand National series starting with the Rockingham race in February. Other races in the early game plan include Las Vegas and Texas. Team driver Phil Morris is excited about the upcoming season’s prospects and final plans should be announced early next week as far as additional sponsors, paint schemes, etc. In other team news, final arrangements are being made to secure a team hauler and a third racecar, this time a Hopkins chassis speedway car. Interviews are being held to hire additional crew members under the direction of crew chief Neil Perkins. Perkins is in the middle of bringing their two intermediate cars up to date with recent BGN changes being implimented for 1999. These were ex-Dale Earnhardt Jr. cars, one of which Morris took to a fifth place finish at Rockingham in Oct. 1998. NASCAR has also granted the team the use of #01, the same number used through most of Phil Morris’ successful Late Model outings, including 30 wins in 1998(Racin’ with Russ)(1-15-1999)
