Just one day after winning his second Daytona 500, Hendrick Motorsports driver Jeff Gordon collected his third ESPY award Monday during the annual gala event at Radio City Music Hall. Gordon had previously accepted the “Performer of the Year” award for the auto racing category in 1996 and 1998. In a testimony to NASCAR’s growing acceptance among mainstream America, Gordon was also a nominee for “Male Athlete of the Year.” Michael Jordan and eventual winner Mark McGwire were also among the nominees for that prestigious award.
