Dean Johnson, who left the #38 Akins-Sutton Ford team a few weeks ago, has taken the crew chief job at the #59 Kingsford ST Motorsports team and driver Mike Dillon. Johnson replaces Steve Plattenberger. Johnson and Dillon worked together at the #72 Parker Racing team in 1998(WC Scene)(4-9-1999) – UPDATE 1: Dean Johnson and Kirk Shelmerdine have joined the #59 ST Motorsports BGN team and driver Mike Dillon starting at California. Johnson is the team’s new crew chief, while Shelmerdine, who directed Dale Earnhardt to four of his seven NASCAR Winston Cup Series championships, will serve as a team consultant, according to team owner Tad Geschickter.
