Mark Martin, Jeff Burton, Bobby Hamilton Jr., R.D. Smith, Brad Baker, Jeff Finley and Freddie Query tested their BGN cars at Richmond on Tuesday. Martin ran the best lap in his #60-Winn Dixie Ford at 124.654 mph. That unofficial time easily surpassed Wayne Grubb’s standing qualifying record of 123.717. Burton ran second with a 122.727, with Hamilton pacing a 120.697 mph lap. Baker crashed the #7 Chevy early in the session, spinning backward into the Turn 2 concrete(Times-Dispatch). R.D. Smith ran 120.610 mph, which was more than a mile per hour faster than he ran Monday. Jeff Finley and Freddie Query also made Busch runs, but their times were not available(SpeedNet)(5-5-1999)
