Jack Roush announced that he is still working with TV Guide about sponsoring the #16 car next year. If he cannot find a sponsor for the team, he may run with only five drivers in 2000. That does not mean that driver Kevin Lepage would be out of a job( Times-Dispatch ) the story didn’t speculate on this, but mentioned six teams for 2000. Also: Roush was asked how many more teams he would add, but he said he might have to drop the team Lepage drives for unless a sponsor is found. The sponsor, Primestar, was purchased by TV Guide earlier this season and its future with the team is uncertain( News and Record ) — UPDATE 1 NOTE: Primestar was not bought by TV Guide but by DirecTV who is owned by Hughes Electronics which is a subsidiary of General Motors. Roush runs Ford’s, that may be the reason Primestar is leaving(see the Jan 99 press release – Hughes to Acquire PRIMESTAR — UPDATE 2: Good story at the Times-Dispatch site on this deal: Fueled by Faith / Sponsorship looks shaky, but confident Lepage believes in Roush . In another Roush matter, I hear Johnny Benson may not be with the #26 in 2000, this could be where Lepage ends up. No idea what Benson would do
