Irvan UPDATE 3:

During ESPN2’s Cup qualifying, Dr Jerry Punch gave a report on Ernie Irvan , said he has a bruised lung, mild head injury(cut lip and a cut above an eye) and will require no surgery. He is in fair condition at St. Joseph’s Mercy Hospital in nearby Ypsilanti, MI. Hard to believe the accident happened at the same track, five years to the day — UPDATE: An updated report on Ernie Irvan’s condition was issued Saturday morning. Irvan was flown to hospital in Ann Arbor after crashing during a practice session Friday morning. As of Saturday his condition had been upgraded from “fair” to “good.” He will remain in hospital over Saturday night for more scheduled tests( goRacing ) — UPDATE 2: mentioned during Happy Hour practice that Irvan is alert and doing well, will probably be released Sunday, but will NOT race in the Pepsi 400 at Michigan. MRO’s Max Helton spent the day with Irvan and said Irvan “was doing just fine”(ESPN2) — UPDATE 3: before the race Dr Jerry Punch said he talked to Irvan, who thanked the fans for their support. Also Irvan will be held one more day at the hospital until Monday. No word on Irvan’s status for Bristol
