NASCAR Winston Cup Series three-time Champion Darrell Waltrip will be one of 12 athletes honored in the fourteenth annual Great Sports Legends Dinner to benefit the Buoniconti Fund in support of The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis the evening of Tuesday, October 5, 1999. Former NFL great Frank Gifford will be the Master of Ceremonies for the event, which will be held in the Grand Ballroom at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City. Waltrip, driver of the Haas/Carter Motorsports Route 66/Big Kmart Ford, will be the only auto racing figure included in this years star-studded line-up. Sports legends Jack Nicklaus, Martina Navratilova, jockey Julie Krone, Jerry Lucas, Jim Palmer, John Thompson, Olga Korbut, Marcus Allen, Pat LaFontaine, Olympic star Dan O’Brien and Gifford will also be honored. Former honorees include Hank Aaron, Muhammad Ali, Julias Erving, Mario Andretti, Wayne Gretsky and Johnny Unitas, to name a few. Individuals and corporations pay up to $25,000 for the opportunity to attend the event, which will include a silent auction of autographed sports memorabilia(Kmart PR)
