Hendrick Motorsports owner Rick Hendrick announced Wednesday he has granted Jeff Gordon’s crew chief, Ray Evernham, a provisional release from his contract effective immediately. Hendrick said he decided to “assist Ray with a lifelong dream which he shared with me of pursuing his own team.” Brian Whitesell takes over as the crew chief of the #24 DuPont Chevy and driver Jeff Gordon.
