Dale Earnhardt and Richard Childress said once again after Sunday’s victory in the Winston 500 that they are close to signing an extension of their contract that now runs through the end of the 2000 season. Childress said he and Earnhardt want to retire together. Earnhardt said he wishes that Childress wouldn’t even talk about retirement. Nor, for that matter, does he want to hear it from anybody else( That’s Racin’ )
