On October 22,1999 Ernie Irvan will be given the honor of presenting the ARETA Award to Cancer Survivor and Tour de France cycling champion Lance Armstrong. In a Gala ceremony to be held at Navy Pier Grand Ballroom in Chicago, Ernie and his wife Kim will participated in the star studded night. Ernie was the recipient of the award several years ago. The ARETE awards are recognized as the most inspirational night in sports. Arete (Ah-ree-tee) is what the ancient Greeks termed as the embodiment of excellence and valor. The noble virtues of dedication and perseverance. It honors men and women who know no limits, because they refuse to accept limitations and who will let no obstacle stand dreams. The evening will also centered around Hall of Fame Chicago bears running back Walter Payton who’s Career will be honored with ARETE life Award.
