Ford officials are wondering why NASCAR has rejected a proposed new cylinder head. The head, offered five weeks ago, would have had beefier port heights to match what Chevrolet has had with its SB2-plus-2 engine for the last two seasons. Ford’s Robert Yates has been key in the push for taller ports, and, of course, his team is running away with this season’s championship. So Yates says he understands, but, he adds, NASCAR’s new templates for the 2000 Monte Carlo will actually provide an engine edge for Chevrolet( PitNow )
