Pontiac officials have been notified that Petty Enterprises will switch its Winston Cup teams to Dodge beginning with the 2001 season, according to a source within the General Motors camp. Another source in the NASCAR garage said Sunday that the Ray Evernham-owned cars are likely to carry the numbers 01 and 19. The 01 car would signify the year of Dodge’s return. The 19 is a number Evernham used in his days as a modified driver in New England.( That’s Racin’ ) — UPDATE: now an Associated Press(AP) story: Report: Petty Enterprises switching to Dodge in 2001 (SpeedNet) — UPDATE 2: At the top, General Motors and Pontiac say they have heard nothing official from Petty. Pontiac program manager Fred Simmonds and GM Raceshop spokesman Dave Hederich said Monday they had heard nothing official from any of the Pettys.
