I hear he Winston Cup/Busch TV deal will likely be split into three packages: spring, summer and fall. The spring package is likely to be kept by CBS, given their long association with the Daytona 500. The fall package probably goes to either ABC or NBC, because the other networks have Sunday NFL football. That leaves the summer package, which could go to NBC or Fox. The big losers will be the cable networks (ESPN, TNN) as NASCAR has supposedly told the networks that it wants at least 80% of the Cup races on network TV, and only 20% on cable(anon source) — UPDATE: on tonights RPM2Nite, John Kernan reported that Fox had won the rights to televise the first 1/2 of the 2001 season including the Daytona 500 and NBC would televise the 2nd half of the 2001 schedule, ESPN/ESPN2 will still televise the CTS(trucks) and RPM2Nite and the AP Story link , The Fox network, NBC, and cable channels FX and TBS will televise the races, expected to be a 6-year deal worth $2.4 billion($400 million a year)
