on Friday, CART and past Winston Cup driver, Robby Gordon will make an announcement at Atlanta on Friday. Gordon will be on ESPN’s RPM2Nite Wednesday (note: at 6:00pm/et) to give a sneak preview, see the story below for some various rumors… — UPDATE: Country.com Motorsports has learned that these potential sponsors are ready to help bankroll Gordon into a full-time Cup program in 2000: Hot Wheels, Menards and Energizer. The lead candidate for major sponsorship of Gordon’s effort continues to be Burger King — but while pens are poised, no signatures are drying yet. Gordon is also investigating ownership options/linkages with existing Winston Cup teams. Time is basically out to begin a Cup team start-up. Don’t be surprised if Gordon representatives show up at the auction of Ricky Rudd’s Cup hardware. On the other hand, don’t be astounded if/when Gordon and a current Winston Cup team form a two-car alliance for the 2000 season — all these options are being examined. Gordon plans to sell his CART team to devote his full attention to Cup in 2000, if he can put a competitive package together( TNN Motorsports Site ) AND Robby Gordon has announced his return to the NASCAR Winston Cup Series full-time beginning in the 2000 season. Team Gordon , headed by the 30-year-old driving veteran and co-owners Mike Held and John Menard, is currently moving its Southern California-based operation to the Charlotte, NC area. Current Team Gordon sponsors Menards, Turtle Wax and Hot Wheels remain on board as it prepares for the 2000 Winston Cup season. Speculation has Burger King joining the team as its primary sponsor( goRacing ) AND a Robin Miller story at SpeedNet AND from SpeedVision: Robby Gordon to jump from CART to NASCAR , seems like all the reports are close to the same and most mention that Gordon will participate in next year’s Indianapolis 500, also. Sources tell me the team could very well be the #98 Cale Yarborough team in a partnership or complete buyout — UPDATE: On RPM2Nite Gordon said he would drive Fords and his CART sponsors would follow him to Cup as associates
