Dave Marcis finished 17th in the second qualifier Thursday. Two spots higher, and he would have qualified for his 33rd consecutive Daytona 500. As it was, he was heading home. Marcis wasn’t the only significant name to miss the field. Former Daytona 500 winner(1986) Geoffrey Bodine, who had been in 19 consecutive Daytona 500s, finished just 19th in the first race and couldn’t qualify on time. His brother, Brett, missed for the first time in 13 years(News and Observer)(2-18-2000)
