Why did DW get the Past Champion Provisional and not Bill Elliott? As explained on my Provisional Status page, after 2nd round is finished, NASCAR places 37-42 by owners points, then from the drivers left not in the race, if a past champion is still not in the race, the most recent is awarded the 43rd and final provisional. If no past champion is left the 43rd spot goes to the next driver/team in the owners points standings(as seen on the Provisional Status Page)(3-4-2000)
