Compton Status UPDATE:

#9 Kodiak Ford driver, Stacy Compton met with his doctor on Tuesday morning and was told his broken right collarbone is healing faster than planned. He does not plan to have a relief driver this weekend at Darlington(Times Dispatch) UPDATE: Stacy Compton will qualify and race the #9 Kodiak/Melling Ford Taurus in this weekend’s Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. Compton qualified the #9 car last week at Bristol, but he sat out the race due to a broken collarbone. Compton broke his right collarbone 10 days ago while playing racquetball. Earlier this week, Compton saw a Charlotte area shoulder specialist who gave Stacy the green light to resume competition. As the team prepares to switch to Dodge in 2001, the Melling team has recently added Mike Steeves, chassis builder; Marc Smith, shock specialist; and Rich Wolsky, mechanic(Melling PR)(8-31-2000)
