#4 Kodak Chevy team owner Larry McClure said he may take a gamble with his next driver, picking someone unusual. The most logical two picks on McClure’s list are Geoff Bodine and Ricky Craven. Ron Hornaday and Jimmie Johnson are also potential candidates(PitNow). Note: forget Johnson, as he signed with Hendrick on Friday UPDATE: hear McClure is talking with Steve Grissom about next season in the #4 Chevy(9-23-2000) UPDATE 2: Ricky Craven is the man at the top of Larry McClure’s list of potential drivers, according to sources close to the team. McClure could make a decision within the week(PitNow). On a side note, Craven’s current team has new and improved their website at: www.mwtracing.com(9-25-2000) UPDATE 3: The LTN Radio show is reporting that Kevin Lepage is the front runner for the #4 Morgan-McClure ride. AND from a Morgan-McClure PR: Despite rumors of several different drivers being signed to the team over the past two weeks, a decision has not been made. However, calls have been accepted from interested drivers in every racing division across the country. Larry McClure said “I know everyone is eager to find out who is going to drive the #4 car next year. I have done some interviews and talked to several drivers. I guess you might say we are weighing the options. We are looking at veterans and at fresh, young drivers. An announcement could come as soon as this week or it could come in several weeks. I just do not have the answer yet. I have three opportunities that interest me right now but he wouldnt mention the other two teams besides the Kodak team(Bangor News(ME) AND While Craven is proud of what his part-time team, owned by Hal Hicks, has been able to do over the past season and a half, he’s still looking for a chance to race every week for a team with the resources to run competitively. But things are changing. His name is back in the rumor mill, and in this case that is a good thing. Craven has talked with Larry McClure about the No. 4 Chevrolets that Bobby Hamilton will vacate at season’s end.
